Kennedy cousin Michael Skakel denied parole in 1975 slaying

Kennedy cousin Michael Skakel was denied a bid for freedom Wednesday at his first parole hearing since he was convicted a decade ago of killing his neighbor in 1975.

Skakel, who proclaimed his innocence at the hearing, nodded and patted his attorney on the back after the three-person parole board read the unanimous decision. He will next be eligible for parole in 2017.

As much as I detest the kennedys, and I really detest them all, this crime was committed by this scumbag when he was 15 years-old. I recognize that he never came forward as an adult to admit his guilt but I believe his fifth amendment rights mean he doesn’t have to. That said, I don’t understand the legal theory that holds him responsible as an adult for a crime he committed as a minor. I think sentencing should reflect the responsibility we expect from a minor.

I think that the nice little touch he threw in at the end is interesting...after beating her to death with a 9 Iron (for having rebuffed his advances) he decided to shove the shaft of the club into her body.The truly fun thing is that if he had fessed up at the beginning he would have spent a few years in a youth facility and emerged with *no criminal record*.That's how lax Connecticut's juvenile offender laws were back then.And to think that his lawyer called his cousin,heroin addict Robert F Kennedy Jr,as a character witness during his sentencing hearing.

My understating is that studies in the legal profession have consistently shown that the very famous,or those closely connected to the very famous,almost never are convicted in criminal trials.OJ...Michael Jackson..Ted Kennedy...Robert Blake...William Kennedy Smith.Phil Spector wasn't as famous and his fame was in the distant past so he was convicted.If Skakil was known in the press at the time as "Kennedy Skakil" he wouldn't have been convicted.It was no coincidence that the rapist,Bill,was "Kennedy Smith" rather than just "Smith"....that was an intentional strategy on the part of his lawyers.
