Wal-Mart boss Sam Walton funding Obama big time
Washington Examiner ^ | 10/22/12

Can we stop pretending that Barack Obama’s candidacy is some grass-roots uprising?

Obama’s campaign has outspent Romney’s campaign. The Democratic National Committee has outspent the Republican National Committee. While Romney’s SuperPAC (Restore our Future), has outspent Obama’s SuperPAC (Priorities USA), that $40 million Romney SuperPAC edge doesn’t come close to making up for the Obama campaign’s $180 million edge.

There is legally undisclosed spending going on here, and there’s reason to believe Romney benefits from more of it than Obama, but that’s not conclusive, and we don’t know how big Romney’s edge is in that category.

Obama argues that his fundraising success comes from small donors, but that’s not really true. One out of every five Obama dollars comes from the campaign’s biggest bundlers, the Center for Pubic Integrity reports. Those bundlers include the likes of Pfizer lobbying chief Sally Susman and financier Michael Kempner of the MWW group.

A full 85 percent of Obama’s SuperPAC money comes from his 20 largest donors (compared to 70 percent of the money raised by Romney’s SuperPAC), according to Russ Choma at the Center for Responsive Politics.

My favorite detail, though, is this Washington Times report by data hound Luke Rosiak: Wal-Mart Chairman Sam Walton has apparently given big to Obama’s SuperPAC.

This is at first surprising for a couple of reasons. First, the Waltons tend to be Republican. Second, the conventional wisdom is that megacorps like Wal-Mart are a Republican thing.

But Sam Walton gave the maximum $30,800 to the Obama Victory Fund in 2008, and $40,000 to the OVF this election.

Policy-wise, there’s plenty of reason for Sam Walton to like Barack Obama: 1.Wal-Mart endorsed the employer mandate in ObamaCare, which gives Wal-Mart an advantage by crushing smaller competitors. 2.Wal-Mart has profited from Dodd-Frank, which fixes the price Wal-Mart has cards.

Literally. Wal-Mart is not a very hygenic place.

That’s pretty amazing since Sam has been dead for 20 years.

I try to avoid Walmart, but end up going there occasionally. Many of the customers use EBT cards and look like they got their clothes out of lost and found. Didn’t used to be like that, but it is now. Walton no doubt wants Obama to manufacture more of these people.

It's the tree hugger son, Sam R. Walton. not Robson Walton.

Come on folks. you're being played.

Until that outfit get its head straight, Walmart won’t see a red cent of my $$. Besides, most of the time they’re out of bullets anyway.

” There are several possible explanations — it could have to do with China, or could be the equivalent of giving a mugger $20 to avoid worse things happening”

Like Obama would ever lay off Walmart, with the unions owning him, and his hatred for the rich. I don’t see it. The left may be able to “rent” Obama, not the right.

Walmart DEPENDS on welfare for their workers in order to keep pay low. Walmart is also dependent on customers on foodstamps.

If foodstamps and welfare are cut then they have to pay their “middle of nowhere town” employees more. Then their bottom line is hurt because of fewer customers with foodstampls.

So where are all the big FR Wal*Mart supporters that flame us when we try to tell the truth about Wal*Mart (I’m a former supplier ... man I know, do I ever!). But now that this has come to light, all those flamers got their wicks dampened a little I guess. Still waiting to hear their continued support for Wal*Mart ... still, still ...(Crickets).

I was almost hired by them once. They wanted me for their information systems and were excited. However, I could not convince my then-wife to move to Michigan, though I wanted to move to the Grand Rapids area to attend bible collenge and eventually seminary.

3. Wal-Mart has helped export more jobs to China and then import cheap Chinese crap than just about any other retailer.

In my opinion, it's Rob Walton's son Sam R. Walton, who has no connection to WalMart, owns an environmental company, contributed to Obama in 2008, and goes on trips with Jimmy Carter. He and his dad don't see eye to eye politically.

I guess. This headline really threw me, because I thought Sam Walton, the big honcho, died years ago ...

... as he in fact did in 1992. His son is Samuel Robson Walton or Rob, and Sam R. Robson is the grandson. Both have contributed to Obama, but it's the last one who took it further.

Then there are all the other relatives. Must need a genealogical chart at family get-togethers.

Sorry, Sam R. Walton, like you said. Like I said, it's confusing.

I'll always shop Wal-Mart till someone else has lower prices. If I owned a grocery store I'd come up with a story like this. Long live Wally World.
