Richard Carmona, the Democratic candidate for the Arizona senate seat being vacated by Jon Kyl, is a former U.S. surgeon general and decorated military veteran. A Hispanic American, he overcame childhood homelessness and has deep roots in the Tucson area, where he served as a deputy sheriff for more than two decades. Barack Obama himself called Carmona to urge him to run, knowing the Spanish-speaking doctor is the kind of blue-chip candidate capable of wresting away a Senate seat in a red state. And Carmona seems poised to do just that. The past two polls in Arizona have shown Carmona edging ahead of U.S. Representative Jeff Flake, the Republican nominee, and Democratic forces have begun pouring cash into the state in hopes of snatching an upset victory.
But with one stupid quip, Carmona may have badly damaged his chances. During a testy exchange in a Thursday night debate, moderator Brahm Resnik quipped, Now I know how Candy Crowley felt, he said. To which Carmona replied: Youre prettier than her, and patted the moderators hand.
Not sure how to take that, Resnik said. Nor should women in Arizona. Heres the video of the exchange:

Putting this quip aside for a second, just how the hell is Flake in trouble in Arizona to begin with?
Of course I would’ve written the storyline differently - like ‘democrat hoisted on his own petard’, or ‘how to win a seat by turning liberal hypersensitivity back on a Democrat’.
Didn’t know this guy was a deputy sheriff in Tucson. Did he work for doofus Dupnik?
Much worse than Binders
I presume that he served under Sheriff Clarence Dupnik. I wouldn't exactly consider that a recommendation.
I was actually going to say, “well at least he didn’t mention women in binders” :-)
There is a candidate in Dallas saturating the airwaves accusing her opponent of being pro-rape. Crazy

I just, in the past few days, have been seeing these Carmona guys signs popping up. I was wondering who he was, I had not heard his name or seen the signs prior to this week.
I am voting for Flake but his arrogance during the whole immigration bill left me with a sour taste in my mouth for him. Kyl too, though he wasn't arrogant about it, it turned me off from him and I had really liked him at one time.
The polls are wrong and Flake will almost certainly win - but he does have a reputation as a lobbyist-owned insider.
Latino solidarity and an open seat?
Real Clear Politics says it's a toss up.

Carmona seems to have issues with anger and women

How can Democrats support someone who is so insensitive to women’s needs that he would publicly make a derogatory remark about a woman’s looks? Especially Candy Crowley’s, who has become a heroine to liberals everywhere.
If Don Imus can get fired for calling a few Black cheerleaders ‘’nappy-headed ho’s,’’ shouldn’t Arizona’s Democratic Senate candidate be forced to step down for implying that a fat middle-aged woman is ugly? Where’s the outrage?!
Carmona must have hurt his paw at the debate-
The Humane Society spent about 60 grand on Carmona on 10/19/2012,
Guess they spayed him too, why else would they be spending that much on a candidate?
Do you have to be gay to run for statewide office in AZ?
Carmona was a good SG and would be an asset to the Senate. Too bad he is a D and there are too many Ds in the Senate.
LOL... the site in your post comes back...”sorry Charlie”...when copy and pasted.
If Ted Kennedy was still alive, he would be campaigning for him
flake is an open borders rino
Arizona is like Massachusetts in reverse. We are a very conservative state that sometimes elects Democrats to statewide office or Republican-leaning districts when they are perceived as competent and moderate or conservative.
Note what I say about “perceived”; not all of them deserve their reputations.
Before Carmona, who is really not that bad for a Democrat, there were Napolitano, Mitchell, Stump, DeConcini, and Babbitt.
Flake is a good guy, but he’s been coasting, and all of a sudden he is now finding that he’s got a real fight on his hands.
GO FLAKE!
unfortunately, the guy sounds like perfect senate material
Yeah, he sounds like a real gem
That's hard to see how when his chief of staff is blaming a non-candidate for Carmona's troubling outbursts.
Politico: "Tameron, Carmonas top campaign aide, said Beato was attempting to deflect attention from her own activities by raising the explosive allegations against Carmona."
"Deflect attention from her own activities" ??! Like what, going to the grocery?
Just to be clear, my opinion of him was and remains -- he's a hardcore douchebag. Arizona is going to shitcan Carmona's political career, and there's nothing for him after this but Tucson dogcatcher...
Carmona is a loose cannon. Read up on his shootout with a suspect and the number of innocent people he narrowly missed hitting. His resume looks good but he sides with the team that required our Border Patrol agents to use beanbags against known dangerous targets. Az doesn’t need him or his ilk.
Is that an ad? It should be on TV in AZ...
I get that, but the Democrat will be more open border, more left leaning, and represent a party that is more of both also.
how would he be an asset to the Senate?
The illegal alien vote the Democrats depend on? That's why they pushed this scumbag Carmona to run in the first place.
No. He wouldn't.
He would fall right into line with the rest of the socialist, America-hating scumbag Democrats. He would be a nightmare.
Well there are some things not adding up here. We know Obama will not win this state - and one would think the Senate would follow in this years election.
And I hear Flake is soft in immigration, which also doesn’t make sense that he would get beat in the hispanic vote worse than Mitt.
Or, polls could be BS.
Holy hell. Talk about a “war on women!” That’s frightful.
Or, Flake being soft on illegal aliens hurts him with the conservative base, which takes him for a pandering fool.
He probably is a pandering fool. But he will vote against Obama Care - his opponent will not. The conservative base will be slitting their own throats, and mine and yours, if they sit it out for Flake.
Flake also supports the sodomization of the US military.
He is slitting his own throat.
I didn’t say I wasn’t voting for him, just why I’m not too enthusiastic about it. in many ways it’s the same as the Presidential election.
So let me get this straight....Flake is MORE pro gay and MORE pro illegal than the Democrat who is running?
Unlikely. They're probably about the same.
Anyway, do you have reading comprehension issues, or did you just reply to the wrong post by mistake? I sure never said or implied that Flake was "MORE pro gay and MORE pro illegal than the Democrat who is running". My point is that on two critical issues Flake fell flat on his face, and that may hurt him at the polls by alienating conservatives. I thought I was pretty clear.
I knew exactly where you were going, but you were being obtuse and just ranting about Flake - the kind of thing that is primary stuff. Those sentiments, while I understand them, do not explain why he is having trouble this late in the game while Obama is getting killed in Arizona - unless Arizona republicans are idiots.
No. I wasn't. You're a liar or a moron. Or both.
Those sentiments, while I understand them, do not explain why he is having trouble this late in the game while Obama is getting killed in Arizona...
My point, for the final time, is that maybe the GOP candidate is the problem.
I was playing with you, and in your anger and pursuit of the perfect candidate, you totally missed it.
Flake not a perfect candidate? Gee, knew knew? Wow, what a shock. You don’t say. Oooh, I never saw that coming. I thought he was Ronal Reagan. /sarc.
Still, nothing you says answers the question in the state dominated by McCain.
Bye.
It is on the TV, all the time.
My wife and I both looked at each other in disbelief the first time we saw it. That kind of ad is a career-killer.
Carmon came back with an ad that had a woman supporting him. IMHO, it wasn’t very believable. But the leftists in Tucson will vote for him, regardless. He’s one of theirs.
