France 24 TV: Cairo reporter 'savagely attacked'

PARIS (AP) — A correspondent for France 24 TV was "savagely attacked" near Cairo's Tahrir Square after being seized by a crowd, the network said Saturday. It was the latest case of violence against women at the epicenter of Egypt's restive protests.

The news channel said in a statement that Sonia Dridi was attacked around 10:30 p.m. Friday after a live broadcast on a protest at the square and was later rescued by a colleague and other witnesses. France 24 did not give further details about the attack, but it said its employees were safe and sound, though "extremely shocked," and that it will file suit against unspecified assailants.

Hi - two ideas:
1. Why does Sec State need to go flying all over the world? We have ambassadors, other diplomats, and the UN. Why that one individual needs to run ragged visiting every corner of the planet I don’t understand and don’t like. Let’s start having them come to visit the SecState.
2. If travel can be controlled, I’m going to float a name for SecState which hasn’t been heard. Someone who is a plain talker, understands the world, is America First, and has as more gravitas than all the current administration combined. If some country wants special treatment from us, let them come round and meet with Don Rumsfeld.

Disagree. Rummy has an impressive resume’, but his experience is different (and he’s enjoying retirement). I would rather have John Bolton, former Amb. to the UN as the SoS. He knows what’s going on and also knows how the UN operates. He is a no nonsense-type of person who cuts through the BS.

I only hope that Romney will significantly reduce the US tax dollars that are probably funding about 1/3 of the UN.

I was in Egypt at the beginning of October. There were very few Americans their. We did see some Germans, French and Japanese. If this depresses the French tourists it is going to make a bad situation even worse. Very bad for the regular Egyptians. Egypt is going to have a tough time. They cannot feed themselves and they currency reserves are low. They are starting to have fuel shortages. I do not understand how the country is going to survive.
