What is the purpose of the Al Smith dinner?

I don’t think Cardinal Dolan was thrilled to be there with Obama. May Obortion O was. He was there for the photo op.

The whole thing is on C-Span if you want to hear both Dolan and the master of ceremonies, who also had some good jokes.

Is Catholicism caught between “Social Justice” and “Right to Life”?

Maybe you missed the part about having to return to our pew because the one priest that was distributing Communion had returned to the altar leaving ministers and priestesses...

Yesterday was the feast of the North American Martyrs. Look at the lengths Isaac Jogues went to for permission to hold the Host with his mangled hands (and he was a PRIEST), and tell me if that doesn’t strike you when you have a lay protestant offering communion. In my high school it was students doing it; I was an altar boy, and I remember washing the priest’s fingers before Communion - when do you see the “ministers” do that? We did it because we believed Christ was present in the consecrated Host.

Was that clear enough for you, or does that still sound “forked”?

Is Catholicism caught between “Social Justice” and “Right to Life”?

They're related. Justice is commonly defined as giving each person his due. Social justice is simply an extension of this virtue into the public realm, concerning how society is ordered, with particular concern for the most vulnerable. Working for social justice means nothing more than respecting the dignity of every human person and defending the rights that flow from that dignity.

Social justice has nothing to do with socialism, the murderous political ideology which decimated Europe and which has been condemned by practically every pope since the 19th century. Nor does social justice require a big, intrusive government. The Church teaches that government has a role to play in providing a "safety net," but she has been harshly critical of the modern welfare state. Read More

Half the people attending the Al smith dinner are as pro choice as Obama and half more so or even with Romney, based on the statistics of 50% of Catholics voting pro choice in every presidential race since Roe V Wade. And the more damning statistic that New Yorkers (who make up the group at the dinner) wouldn’t vote in a pro choice candidate without causing massive shock around the country.

First, as soon as Obama reaches the infamy that Hitler did by 1944, the church will be able to shun him. As it stands, all pro choice politicians in office are acceptable within the US.

And some within parishes who accept them along with their “social justice” money.

If you care to notice, 50% of people who consider themselves to be Catholics vote pro-choice. If you don’t realize this, you are not tuning in.

Second, the Al Smith dinner is not Mass. There is no Eucharist and no one is taking communion.

When all Catholics stand together and renounce all pro choice politicians, we will have what we had in 1944, when the Allies were soon able to make the local Germans help them clean up the mess in and around the concentration camps.

As it is, there are many under the assumption that all participants at the Al Smith dinner were all pro life by virtue of being Catholic, and there is much work to be done to inform and much of that can be done by inviting Obama and opening up mockery of the pro abortion ridiculousness of his and others like his stance in politics.

The Democrat party has been taken over by the pro choice militants. It’s bout time it was brought out into the open.

If the head of the conference of US bishops can have photo ops with Obama, then the bishops shouldn’t be surprised if their flocks roundly ignore them (to the point where they don’t even receive sacraments anymore). Catholics will never “stand together” because their wobbly-kneed leadership prefers business with Dems over morality. Now in addition to abortion being an official plank of the Dems, they’ve thrown in “gay marriage” (this year).

If you really believe abortion is murder, then you wouldn’t be in the same room with people who advocate for it so strongly. I would hope this would take place before “1944”; it should be taking place now, in “1939”. The Obama administration has declared war on the American Catholic Church on 2 fronts, and the Church leadership retaliated with a dinner, photo ops, and a masochistic “thank you, sir; may I have another?”
