GENEVA (Reuters) - The United States has used excessive force against immigrants along the Mexican border and should cooperate in investigating border killings, including those of many young people, the top United Nations human rights official said on Thursday.
"There have been very many young people, teenagers, who have been killed at the border," Navi Pillay, the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights, told a news conference.
"The reports reaching me are that there has been excessive use of force by the U.S. border patrols while they are enforcing the immigration laws," she added.
The family of a Mexican teen shot dead when the U.S. Border Patrol opened fire on a group of rock throwers in Mexico last week is planning to bring a lawsuit alleging excessive use of force, Mexican authorities said on Monday.
The Border Patrol said an agent in Nogales, Arizona, opened fire across the border into Mexico on Oct 10. Mexican authorities said 16-year-old Jose Antonio Elena Rodriguez was shot dead in the incident.
He was shot seven times in the back in the incident that began shortly before midnight when Border Patrol agents responded to reports of two suspected smugglers in Nogales and watched as they dropped drugs on the Arizona side of the border.
Arizona straddles a major route for Mexican smuggling networks hauling drugs and illegal immigrants to the United States, and running guns and cash profits back south to Mexico.

Navi is a man or a woman?
Yeah, that all important opinion of the United Nations. That is one expense I think Mitt can cut by about 45%
Dear UN Stooge: Please stuff it.
Make that 100 percent. The UN has done absolutely no good around the world.
Hell, I thought a sovereign nation had the right to repel an invasion. Guess not.
Some actual enforcement of our immigration laws is going on at the border? Who knew?
According to the UN, “migration” is a human right. And the UN is collectively too stupid to tell the difference between “migration” and “invasion.”
GET THE UN OUT OF OUR COUNTRY AND NEVER GIVE THEM ANOTHER NICKEL.
AND, YES IT’S ALL IN CAPS BECAUSE I’M DISGUSTED WITH THESE AMERICA HATERS SUCKING US DRY WITH NO RETURN ON OUR INVESTMENT.
Hell...we should be using landmines!
So, the UN “HIGH” Commissioner says this....FU...and get out of our country.
Okay. So how can I get a piece of dis action, HAH?
It's the UN. Your answer is "yes".
There should be a little more force and violence on the East Side of Manhattan.
The United Nations should worry about their own Borders.
Oh they don’t have any, so they have none to guard. I guess that makes them experts at guarding borders.
I wish someone in authority would tell them to go crap in their hats. pack their sheit and find some other country to freeload off of.
As the agents approached to investigate, people on the Mexican side of the border began throwing rocks at them and ignored orders to stop, the agency said.
What are young adults doing out at midnight throwing rocks at law enforcement in the first place? The parents of this 16 year old were irresponsible or just couldn't control their kid. .....A U.S. Border Patrol agent was killed and another wounded in a shooting early Tuesday in Arizona near the U.S.-Mexico line, according to the Border Patrol.
The agents were shot while patrolling on horseback in Naco, Ariz., at about 1:50 a.m. MST Tuesday, the Border Patrol. said in a statement.
The US needs to use some force along the East River.
Sounds to me like the force isn't excessive enough as many keep trying to enter the US even with all this excessive force......
U.S. NOT using enough excessive force along Mexican border: U.N. (High Commissioner for Human Rights)
In answer to this, we need to just do a comparison between our practices in controlling our border with Mexico, and Mexico’s practices in controlling it’s southern border, and just see who uses “excessive” force.
Our government doesn’t think so, either.
That’s one of the many reasons why the United States must withdraw from the U.N.
Does anyone remember the John Birch Society billboards saying, “Get the US out of the UN.” Maybe we should have listened to them.
She’s right. There have been more people killed along the border than in Iraq. I would call that excessive force. Of course, they were killed south of the border.
I wonder if she would like to comment on where they bought their weapons?
Holder got caught selling these too.
“Navi is a man or a woman?”
SHE is a South African of “Indian decent.” Now we all know just how “democratic” South Africa is don’t we!
Did they bother looking into how much force Mexico uses on the Guatemalan border? Of course not...
We should tell the UN we now consider these hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants an invasion to be repelled by force. We will, however, promptly send home all of the millions of prisoners of war we have fed, housed, given medical treatment and educated at our expense.
Somebody needs to tell the Commish to go pund sand....
