A Turn of the Page for Newsweek
The Daily Beast ^ | October 18, 2012 | Tina Brown, Baba Shetty

Posted on 10/18/2012 5:21:55 AM PDT by PittsburghAfterDark

We are announcing this morning an important development at Newsweek and The Daily Beast. Newsweek will transition to an all-digital format in early 2013. As part of this transition, the last print edition in the United States will be our Dec. 31 issue.

Meanwhile, Newsweek will expand its rapidly growing tablet and online presence, as well as its successful global partnerships and events business.

Newsweek Global, as the all-digital publication will be named, will be a single, worldwide edition targeted for a highly mobile, opinion-leading audience who want to learn about world events in a sophisticated context. Newsweek Global will be supported by paid subscription and will be available through e-readers for both tablet and the Web, with select content available on The Daily Beast.

hahahaha, in your own minds, you maroons. Only fools will now pay for this junk. Similar to a local newspaper who we told repeatedly to stop trashing our driveway with it, they’ll need ot keep it all free. But, since we now have a couple of birdies, it comes in real handy for keeping the cage clean!

“...for a highly mobile, opinion-leading audience who want to learn about world events in a sophisticated context”

Yeah, that one leaped out at me too. It inspired me to conjure a skit for my fantasy “Conservative Saturday Night Live” show, in which a pair of winos under a bridge discuss this, triggered by accidentally reading this in a back issue, lamenting that another source of toilet paper was going to disappear, discussing how this sentence must be talking about themselves, since after all, they’re mobile as they move from mission to mission for free meals, they’re opinion-leading, since they are connoisseurs of the differences between fine dining wines such as MD 20-20 and Wild Irish Rose, and sophisticated too, as one wino pulls out his iPad and signs up for Newsweek Global.

Tina Brown destroyed the New Yorker. It’s always been a mystery to me why anyone would continue to put her in charge of anything. But she keeps moving on, with a path of destruction behind her.

Evelyn Waugh would roll over in his grave if he knew that the name, “The Daily Beast,” had been stolen from his novel, Scoop. Or maybe he wouldn’t, since that was a comic vision of the yellow press and its crazy magnates which fits the new liberal media pretty well.

And Waugh also understood, as we see in his Sword of Honor trilogy, that there’s not that much difference between Nazis and Communists.

Now if only we could get the New York Times to join them.

Give it 5-10 years and even your favorite Conservative or hobby publications will most likely be digital, given how cheap decent tablets are getting and how expensive print editions are getting and how they are having to jockey with online-only media.

The days of buying software or periodicals in stores are fading fast.

I have seen more doctors offices with TV’s in them recently. I guess this meas a untapped market for MSNBC.
