Kevin James makes people laugh for a living, both with his long-running sitcom "The King of Queens" and comedy hits like "Paul Blart: Mall Cop." When Breitbart News asked him recently about his views on "The Innocence of Muslims," the film the Obama administration blamed for much of the recent unrest in the Middle East, James took the matter seriously.
We asked James, who visited Denver to promote his latest comedy "Here Comes the Boom," his thoughts on why his Hollywood peers didn't speak out for the free speech rights of the film's creator - no matter how crude or offensive his video may be.
George Clooney called it "unfortunate" that the First Amendment protected the filmmaker behind the project. Bette Midler suggested the filmmaker should be charged for murder.
Meanwhile, exhibits like "Piss Christ" get to grace U.S.-based art museums without a critical word from celebrities about its potential to upset Catholics.
"Unfortunately, welcome to Hollywood," James says. "They dont want to offend in some cases, but they dont mind offending in others."
James says he hasn't seen the video in question - he's been buried in "Boom"-related publicity and filmmaking, and he says he feels awful for the lives lost recently in the Middle East.
The comedian understands there's a fuzzy line between art and material that offends. He finds "Piss Christ" exhibit "extremely offensive," for example. And he sure didn't want to offend MMA fighters with "Boom," a movie which pays tribute to the blue-collar folks who participate in the sport.
He doesn't have any easy answers, but he's certainly aware of a double standard existing within the show business community.

He’s one of the hidden conservatives.
When it comes down to it, the measure used to determine whether to offend or not comes down to whether the target will try to kill Hollywood or not.
It is cowardice.
Kevin’s got his income coming from sitcom residuals no matter what. So he’s not dependant on liberals for getting hired like Kelsey Grammar or Tom Selleck
Most of his comedies have been reasonably good, at times at least.
I like this guy,he is a winner...
Good for you Mall Cop!
I thought he was a big-time Lib.
I remember he got booed off the stage at a comedy club around here because his whole act was nothing but ripping on Bush.
Good for you Mall Cop!
It would depend on what he said onstage. He just may be an honest kind of guy.
Well, Kevin.
No one but the White Hut has actually seen this blockbuster.
The whole thing is Bill Clinton “Fairtale”
Kevin James may not be extremely conservative, but he does see the bias, cowardice and hypocrisy of most of Hollywood, in this case.
It would have been nice for him to specify the direction of Hollywood bias, just to be clear, but the glass is half full.
His work is usually pleasantly acceptable comedy, so that's good.
You all HAVE to go see ‘Here comes the boom’!!! Fantastic conservative movie and it’s really good!!
They read scripture, they pray, they take swings at schools, he compares private industry to gov’t run schools and says industry is better!
It’s a great movie and needs to be supported.
Well, that residual income amount declines over a period of time. How much depends on the contracts he’s signed. And he still has to get new work. But he’s in pretty good demand.

Bombs away!!!
Agreed - brother and I went this weekend. Hilarious and proof (are you paying attention Hollyweird) that you don’t need sex and language to make a good show.
At Mass one Sunday in Chicago, at the Cathedral, I turned around at the Sign of Peace and there was Kevin James!! God Bless him...it;s not easy keeping your Catholic faith in Hollyweird.
King of Queens was a great show. Did you know Danny, his cousin on the show is his brother in real life?
“It is cowardice.”
Yes, it is, pure & simple. Those who seek not to offend Islam are the true Islamophobes.
Either the Muslims stop rioting or the Christians will start, there is no “3rd way”.
Yes....I watched his “Biography”.....he really seems like a great guy.
