University's diversity chief put on leave after signing anti-gay marriage petition

The chief diversity officer at Gallaudet University was put on administrative Wednesday after the school learned she had signed a petition supporting efforts to reverse Maryland’s same-sex marriage law, media reports say. Dr. Angela McCaskill signed the petition at her church after her preacher spoke against gay marriage, the Planet DeafQueer blog reported on Monday, citing a Gallaudet faculty member who first spotted the administrator’s name on the document. Voters in Maryland will decide on Nov. 6 whether to keep a state law passed earlier this year approving same-sex marriage.

No one is free if you can be fired for your opinions even if you do your job properly. What good is freedom of speech if you are not protected from perverts and other militants looking over things like petitions and donations in order to destroy those who disagree with them? These tactics are used by groups such as gay rights advocates to suppress, silence and punish citizens who oppose them. In my opinion we need laws to protect people from such attacks.

Nope. Gallaudet is an historic university for the deaf located in Washington DC. It has been around since the civil war. It is not religiously affiliated at all (federally chartered).
