FAIRFAX, Virginia, October 9, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) President Barack Obama told an audience of campaign supporters at George Mason University last Friday that free contraceptives for college students was the reason why we passed his healthcare reform law.
Citing the preventive services mandate that requires healthcare plans to provide sterilization, contraception and abortion-inducing drugs to women free of charge, Obama said, I dont think a college student in Fairfax or Charlottesville should have to choose between text books or the preventive care that she needs. Thats why we passed this law. And I am proud of it. It was the right thing to do. And we are going to keep it.
Obama stressed the role of contraception in balancing the ObamaCare budget, saying, Its good for our health care system in general because we know the overall cost of care is lower when women have access to contraceptive services.

According to Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, whose office issued the birth control mandate, the expected reduction in the number of pregnancies will compensate for the increased cost to insurance companies for the free contraception.
Obama also claimed the health benefits of the birth control mandate extend beyond the prevention of pregnancy. Doctors prescribe [the pill], not only for family planning but as a way to reduce the risk of ovarian and other cancers, he said. While long-term oral contraceptive use has been linked to somewhat reduced occurrences of ovarian cancer, it has also been linked to significant increases in the risk of cervical, liver and breast cancers. The birth control pill has been categorized as a Group 1 carcinogen by the World Health Organization (WHO), alongside other toxic substances such as asbestos, mustard gas, and tobacco.
Obama attacked his opponent in the U.S. Presidential race, Mitt Romney, for supporting the Catholic Church and other conscientious objectors to the preventive services mandate, who argue that it violates their freedom of religion to force faithful employers to pay for procedures they believe are intrinsically immoral. Many Catholics have demanded a conscience clause to allow employers to follow their religious convictions and refuse to pay for sterilizations and contraceptives. However, with President Obamas support, HHS Secretary Sebelius has vigorously opposed any kind of opt-out.
Let me tell you something, Virginia, Obama said, I dont think your boss should control the care you get. I dont think insurance companies should control the care you get. I definitely dont think politicians on Capitol Hill should control the care you get. Weve seen some of their attitudes, weve read about those.
I think there is one person who gets to make decisions about your health care, said Obama, thats you.
The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops said in a statement earlier this year, This is not about access to contraception, which is ubiquitous and inexpensive, even when it is not provided by the Churchs hand and with the Churchs funds. This is not about the religious freedom of Catholics only, but also of those who recognize that their cherished beliefs may be next on the block. This is not about the Bishops somehow banning contraception, when the U.S. Supreme Court took that issue off the table two generations ago. Indeed, this is not about the Church wanting to force anybody to do anything; it is instead about the federal government forcing the Churchconsisting of its faithful and all but a few of its institutionsto act against Church teachings.

Until now, I don't think there ever has been a society that chemically or physically altered its young girls so they could be used as "safe" sex partners.
“... free contraceptives for college students was the reason why we passed his healthcare reform law.”
So, the reason Obamacare was passed is ‘conditional’... depending on who “O” is trying to con THIS WEEK!!!!
A trillion dollars and the destruction of the greatest medical care in the world for condoms?
Really, was that the purpose of a 2700 page law establishing multiple boards, intrusive regulations of all aspects of health insurance, and regressive taxes?
Well, it makes more sense than “to help the uninsured” as a reason for passing a law levying regressive taxes on the uninsured. Of course, it would have been a lot simpler and cheaper to pass a law funding a government program to give out free contraceptives to college students at taxpayer expense if that was the purpose.
It’s really about STDs - the great unreported epidemic among people that age.
When I was a 20-something in the 60s, NOBODY worried about medical insurance.
I troll undercover on a site where there are a lot of folks like this, and STDs are the reason they’re so anxious about medical insurance.
Back when I was growing up, we were taught not to engage in sex before marriage.
When I was in college I think our student newspaper would have gone broke without those full-page ads for the Today Sponge...
Good observation. Brave New World, eh?
since when is it hte government’s job to pay for stuff for peopel to get their funk on? I like Caffein,e Caffeine gets me goign and keeps me going- without it I’m nothing, so apparently, accordign to the government who thinks they shoudl pay for things we like, I should be reimbersed for all the caffeine I drink? It’s a health issue- without it I’m not as alert- and an ‘accident could ghappen’- so think of it as preventative healthcvare-
What is the reasonign behind the government paying someone else’s birth control tab? What is their htought process? “Well, they’re goign to do it anywaysd, and they aren’t goign to stop- so the government needs to step in and make sure they do it safely or to prevent children’? What hte hell kind of reasonign is that? The government FALSELY screams abotu ‘seperation of church and state’ but it shoudl be seperation of bedroom and state-
[[A trillion dollars and the destruction of the greatest medical care in the world for condoms?]]
Mitt shoudl jum all over this sayign just hwat you said- Use the president’s own words agaisnt him seeings how the mainstream media won’t- the MSM has to invent thigns abotu mitt- but obama is on record saying crap liek htis asnd the msm is silent
This moron is so unequivocally full of sh!/ I’ve given up attempting to process the nonsense that drools out of his mouth.
Why do we need free contraceptives? We’ve been paying for them for decades - make that centuries.
“A trillion dollars and the destruction of the greatest medical care in the world for condoms?.......”
You forgot to include the First Amendment to the US Constitution!
Claiming govt stuff is “free”... Analogous to us each pointing a gun to our neighbor’s head and demanding he solve the problems in our own life.
This is coercion, not freedom.
I dont think your boss should control the care you get. I dont think insurance companies should control the care you get. I definitely dont think politicians on Capitol Hill should control the care you get.”
Of course not. You think the government should control it.
the expected reduction in the number of pregnancies will compensate for the increased cost to insurance companies for the free contraception. .......Part of the Muslim assault, lower the birth rate for civilized Western society and “ We will conquer from the womb.” Make no mistake. At all.
Actually, according to 0bamacare, a secret panel (IPAB) of unelected, unaccountable bureaucrats should control it.
