Obama: Green energy not ‘socialist plot’ By Ben Geman - 10/08/12 09:59 AM ET
President Obama quipped Sunday night that energy efficiency initiatives are not a “socialist plot” in remarks that contrasted his energy policies with rival Mitt Romney’s.
The president, fundraising in Los Angeles, addressed energy during a $25,000-per-plate dinner with backers that included actor George Clooney.
“On energy, I’m big on oil and gas, and developing clean coal technology, but I also believe that if we’re ever going to have control of our energy future, then we’ve got to invest in solar and wind and biofuels, and that it does make sense for us to double our fuel-efficiency standards on cars,” Obama said, according to a White House transcript.
“And that's not a socialist plot for us to reduce our energy usage,” Obama said to laughter, according to the transcript. “It’s the smart thing to do. It’s right for our national energy. It’s right for our economy. It’s right for the environment. [Romney] disagrees.”
Obama didn’t get specific about Romney's alleged disagreement.
But the GOP nominee in late August bashed new auto mileage rules for model years 2017-2025 that will ultimately require automakers to build cars and light trucks with a fleet-wide average of 54.5 miles-per-gallon.
Romney, through a spokeswoman, called the standards “extreme,” and said they will “limit the choices available to American families.”
The Romney campaign also emphasized the higher up-front costs of the vehicles, while the Obama administration touted savings in fuel costs over time and reduced oil consumption. (Click here for much more on the rules.)
While energy efficiency programs often have bipartisan support, various federal standards have drawn pushback from some Republicans who call them undue federal intrusion into consumer choices.
House Republicans, over the last two years, have sought to roll back lightbulb efficiency standards contained in a bipartisan 2007 energy law.
Of course it’s a freaking Socialist plot.
Green energy is a socialist plot. Duly noted, Mr. Liar.

It’s possible to not know that it’s a socialist plot,
it’s possible to believe it’s not a socialist plot.
It’s possible to be a useful idiot who wants to feel good about himself for caring about the “erf” and wanting “green” energy that “doesn’t hurt the erf”.
But 0bama is not in one of the above categories. He knows that “green energy” is a vehicle to advance global communism and enrich his supporters with taxpayer money in the process.

Mr. Big Talker comes up with silly rebuttals days after the debate. He is making himself look even more pathetic, if that’s possible.
Uh, “big on oil”, what for french fries?
He should tout the energy saved from people not driving to their former jobs.
If it wasn’t a Socialist Plot then “WE” wouldn’t have to “invest” in it at all! People looking to make a profit would gladly handle that.
How about a Marxist plot?
I don’t know about global communism, I can even see “green energy” as a way (a misguided, incredibly expensive way) of reducing our dependence on energy produced by the world’s worst dictatorships,
but definitely it was primarily a way to funnel government resources to an inefficient wasteful industry, in the most inefficient and wasteful conceivable fashion possible, unsecured lending.

If the government controls the means of production, and it is the government's responsibility to decide how they are to be used, then it is a form of socialism.

Well it certainly is a fraud, scam, and excuse to loot the public trough.
No its actually more of a fascist scam that even Hitler would have found stupid.
“reducing our dependence on foreign energy”
is another excuse they provide to people who WANT to believe that’s the goal.
If that wasn’t a lie, then we’d be developing our own “fossil fuel” resources in our country like gangbusters. It’s exposed as a lie, or a false goal, by the fact that he’s shutting down all domestic sources of energy development.
Well, it’s sure not an economic miracle either!
Unless, you consider losing trillions of dollars but getting reelected a miracle.
