Philly teacher: Student's Romney T-shirt like wearing a KKK sheet
Philadelphia Inquirer ^ | 10/04/2012 | Kirsten Graham

Last Friday was dress-down day at Charles Carroll High School in Port Richmond — a day for students to leave their uniforms at home and wear whatever they liked.

One young woman chose to wear a shirt showing her support for Gov. Mitt Romney’s presidential candidacy. Her geometry teacher didn’t like it, the girl’s father said on a radio call-in show on IQ 106.9 FM today.

The teacher allegedly told the girl to take off the shirt, saying it was like wearing a Ku Klux Klan sheet. The teacher allegedly threatened to use a marker to cross out Romney’s name and that of Rep. Paul Ryan, his running mate. The teacher also allegedly tried to throw the student out of class.

The teacher also allegedly said that Carroll was "a Democratic school."

Her parents were livid. The student was afraid to go back to the class. She thought she would be retaliated against.

Philadelphia School District spokesman Fernando Gallard confirmed that last Friday at Carroll, “a teacher made some comments to a student wearing a Romney t-shirt in their classroom. The comments were of a political nature, and also of a personal nature. We are looking into the comments, and the conduct of the teacher.”

Once the school received a complaint, an investigation was launched the same day, Gallard said. The investigation is ongoing.

In the meantime, the teacher was switched out of the class “to allow the student to feel comfortable to come to the class.”

Gallard said the student was within her rights.

“She was expressing her freedom of speech, and was not in violation of any school or district policy,” he said.

We see the delusion of the LEFT on full display here. This teacher is delusional, first to believe as she does, and second, to act in the way that she did. What a horror show!

Gallard said the student was within her rights.

“She was expressing her freedom of speech, and was not in violation of any school or district policy,” he said.

Now, wait a minute. I was shown the door for expressing conservative points of view. No one EVER told me that I had freedom of speech. In fact, I was told that within the school walls, I did NOT have freedom of speech, but was under the guidelines of what the administration wanted said in class. Will ANY law firm take my case?

I have a picture in my mind of what this “teacher” must look like. Hopefully we will have a chance to find out how close I am in my guess.

What a horror show!

That's because the left are really insane. Their belief have never worked throughout history yet they continue to believe their leftist, socialistic cr@p and are belligerent to any who oppose their cr@p. The teacher is a bully - but aren't all leftists, really.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

In 1942, 24-year-old (((DEMOCRAT))) Robert Byrd joined the Ku Klux Klan (KKK), whose parades in Matoaka, West Virginia, he had witnessed in his childhood. He was unanimously elected Exalted Cyclops, or leader, of his local chapter.[8]

Byrd, in his autobiography, attributed the beginnings of his political career to this incident, although he lamented that they involved the Klan. According to Byrd, a KKK official told him "You have a talent for leadership, Bob... The country needs young men like you in the leadership of the nation." Byrd recalls that "suddenly lights flashed in my mind! Someone important had recognized my abilities! I was only 23 or 24 years old, and the thought of a political career had never really hit me. But strike me that night, it did."[4] He participated in the KKK during World War II, holding the titles Kleagle (recruiter) and Exalted Cyclops [the top officer in the local Klan unit]. He did not serve in the military during the war, working instead as a welder in a Baltimore, Maryland shipyard, where he helped build warships.[citation needed]

Byrd commented on the 1945 controversy about racially integrating the military. Byrd, when he was 28 years old, wrote to segregationist Senator Theodore Bilbo, of Mississippi, vowing never to serve in such a military:

"Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds.[5]"

He had earlier written "I shall never fight in the armed forces with a Negro by my side".[6][7]

From the Washington Post:

"Byrd said in the Dec. 11, 1945, letter -- which would not become public for 42 more years with the publication of a book on blacks in the military during World War II by author Graham Smith -- that he would never fight in the armed forces "with a Negro by my side." Byrd added that, "Rather I should die a thousand times, and see old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds.."..."

"during the general election campaign, Byrd's GOP opponent uncovered a letter Byrd had handwritten to Green, the KKK Imperial Wizard, recommending a friend as a Kleagle and urging promotion of the Klan throughout the country. The letter was dated 1946 -- long after the time Byrd claimed he had lost interest in the Klan. "The Klan is needed today as never before, and I am anxious to see its rebirth here in West Virginia," Byrd wrote, according to newspaper accounts of that period. Byrd makes no mention of the letter in his new book."

The parents are way too accepting of the just a joke excuse. IMO that was no joke and the student was harassed in several ways - by telling her to take off her shirt, by asking if her parents were Republicans, by trying to throw her out of the classroom and by comparing the shirt to the KKK. The teacher should be fired.

Incorrect, if my school experience was any guide.

Schools do have a right to maintain an orderly learning setting. That has been established in law, in terms of a dress code etc. If a student comes to school wearing a KKK sheet, that would truly present a problem in maintaining an orderly learning environment.

The problem is, this woman wasn’t operating within any existing guidelines/rules etc. She INVENTED the idea that wearing a Romney/Ryan shirt was the same as wearing a KKK sheet and badly mistreated the student. She had NOTHING but her own delusional biases to back herself up.

That’s why what she did cannot stand. It isn’t because a student has rights to wear anything they want to school, no matter what it is.

A redundant question at the least, but what would this “educator’s” comments have been if a certain minority were to wear a ‘black fist’ T Shirt, or another ‘protected class’ wore a ‘Cinco de Mayo’ etc etc.....

Yes, and pity the poor student that would dare complain about the 2 above mentioned shirts.....

Politics is another reason the school system might to shut the idiot up: If Romney becomes President the DOE will be under this authority as does that school’s budget. She is essentially disrespecting her new boss.
