Armed business owner thwarts attempted robbery(KS)

Steve Yager saw him approaching from two blocks away.

Even though it was awfully warm for the first morning of October, the pedestrian had his sweatshirt drawn up tight against him and the hood up over his head.

“Well, here comes trouble,” Yager thought.

Sure enough, the man came up to him and asked him for the time.

“There was a clock right there in the antique (store) window” right next to where he was parked in the 900 block of West Douglas on Monday morning, Yager said. “It was just a ploy.”

The man turned and walked to the front of the antique store, then returned to where Yager was waiting in his truck for an employee to arrive at about 10 a.m. so he could open the Club Billiards that he owns next door.

“Well, why don’t you just go ahead and give me your billfold and I won’t have to pull my gun?” Yager said the man told him.

“I said, ‘Really?’ ” Yager said. “I reached over like I was going to get my billfold and grabbed my gun and stuck it in his face and said, ‘You mean like this?’ ”

The would-be robber’s eyes grew wide and his demeanor suddenly shifted, Yager said.

“He says, ‘Oh, I was just kidding! I was just foolin’ with ya, ya know?’ ” Yager said the man replied.

“Man, you don’t need to do that,” Yager said he told the man. “You was lucky you didn’t get shot. What you need to do is get the hell out of here before you get hurt.”

The suspect removed his hands from his pockets and told Yager, “You have a nice day. I don’t really mean this. I’m just foolin’. I’m going to leave.”

Where’s the part where he told the scumbag to get face down on the ground while he calls the police?! This hood is just going to go get the next old lady he sees walking down the street!

My first thought also, but read the story. The perp ran off and Yeager felt he was probably not armed so what could he do? He did call 911 and gave the cops a description.

Some people really think “rich” business owners are just here for them to take advantage

If this story credible?

A black male wearing a hoodie attacking someone?

We know from Trayvons example that this never could have happened. All young black males wearing hoodies are innocent of all charges. Just ask Reverand Al and MSNBC. They will tell you so.

A similar thing happened to a friend of mine, who is an ex-cop, several years ago. He was at a McDonalds drive through after working late one evening. A thug who thought he was sneaking up on him, appeared in the drivers’s side window while he was in line waiting to pick up his order. My friend had seen him come up in the mirror, Because of situational awareness, he already had his 9mm Glock in his hand. When the thug “asked” for some money, my buddy promptly put the gun in his face. The thug said he didn’t want any trouble and my friend had merely misunderstood him.
My friend, being an ex-cop, told the thug he was going to let him post bond. So he made the thug take out his wallet and give him all his money, which turned out to be about $25. I told my buddy “you robbed him!”. He disagreed. He said he only helped him get his focus by being his “life coach” and for only $25 it was a real bargain.

Proverbs 26:18 Like a madman who throws Firebrands, arrows and death, Proverbs 26:19 So is the man who deceives his neighbor, And says, “Was I not joking?”

Letting the scripture doing my talking.

Thank you for that chapter and verse! Impressive. I had not heard it before. Obviously, I need to read the bible more.

If he told the scumbag to get down on the ground and called the police, would he have been arrested for “brandishing” his weapon, or something else equally ridiculous? That’s what would happen here in Jersey (provided that he could even obtain a carry permit).

I knew a former policeman who had worked in a bad part of an East coast inner city, who had already decided to retire and move his family West, when for the first time, he gunned down an armed robber.

The cop was off duty and on foot when he was approached by a known repeat offender violent criminal that he had arrested before, but apparently didn’t recognize him out of uniform.

The criminal put his hand in his pocket, said he had a gun and was robbing him. By this time the cop’s gun was pointed right at his chest, and the criminal blurted out that “I was funnin’! I don’t got no gun!”

The cop then put two rounds right through his heart area, killing him dead.

When other cops arrived, he explained that the criminal was pulling his hand out of his pocket, which was why he shot him.

This was puzzling to all, because he didn’t have a gun in his pocket. It was shoved in the belt in the back of his pants.
