1. Nothing on the tape is a problem. Buy a company, make it great, sell it for a profit. Nobody gets hurt, you make some cash. It’s not even creative destruction, much less something bad.

2. This tape was made before Bain changed its focus to saving companies teetering on the edge.

well.. you can. that isn't what Mitt is talking about here, but unethical companies can and do. Buy a struggling company. Have said company borrow as much money as anyone will lend them. sell off all you can, pay loans and profits as bonuses to yourself, declare bankruptcy and walk away with the loot.
Obviously if Mitt is talking about 'building them up" this isn't the model he is talking about.

I suspect it is the word “harvest” that has everybody upset. But that is exactly what venture capital firms do. And it’s a good thing.

The VC firm plants the seeds, grows the company and then harvests (sells) the company, sometimes to the principals. This has happened thousands of times. But when Romney did it, it’s a crime?

This should help Romney, especially in the farm states. No one understands planting, cultivating, and harvesting quite like a farmer. If the crop fails, you don’t have anything to harvest.
