Conservative PAC May Decide to Fund Todd Akin's Missouri Senate Race
abcnews ^ | 9/26/12 | CHRIS GOOD

Posted on 09/25/2012 12:58:55 PM PDT by Mozilla

A powerful conservative PAC said today that "circumstances have changed" and it is reconsidering its decision to withhold funds for Todd Akin's bid for a Missouri Senate seat, and Akin's campaign said today they expect other groups will also resume spending.

The statement by the Senate Conservatives Fund, a PAC led by South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint, comes as the 5 p.m. CT deadline for Akin to quit the race looms.

The campaign remains adamant that Akin will stay in the race, despite urging from the GOP hierarchy, including Mitt Romney.

"In the words of Churchill, Todd will never, never, never, never quit," spokesman Rick Tyler told ABC News. The campaign is encouraged by the first sign of outside help since Akin's disastrous comments in August that women don't become pregnant from "legitimate rape."

Several Republican PACs also withdrew their financial support, despite the fact that Missouri could be crucial to GOP hopes of winning control of the Senate.

But DeMint's group has recently polled its members asking them, "Knowing that Todd Akin will face Claire McCaskill in November and the race could decide control of the Senate, should the Senate Conservatives Fund endorse Akin and help him raise the support he needs to win?"

Executive Director Matt Hoskins told ABC News today, "Circumstances have changed in two important ways … the deadline has passed. He is the Republican candidate, he will be on the ballot. And the choice is between him and Claire McCaskill."

In his email to PAC members, Hoskins write, "The race in Missouri appears to still be winnable."

He is staying in and I hope he wins. I'm across the border in Kansas but I hope he can pull it off. I get to hear a lot about Missouri politics. I dislike Claire McCaskill big time.

The rest of the East Coast RINO establishment can kiss my ASP.

Rove, Prieblus, Noonan, McConnoll and the CryBaby Boner are a waste of DNA. Cowards all.

It is about time some Conservatives go behind
him with BUCKS. Now if the RNC and their
minions would join in instead of pushing CLAIRE.
Hell they might as well give her an endorsement.

My usual GO TODD GO!!!

As opposed to just letting the rat win. Gee, that’s really white of them that they MAY decide to help him. They better decide pretty soon!

Well he’ll be a freshman and will need to play the game for a while but after that all bets are off.

A freshman with 14 years experience in the House and a chip on his shoulder might be just what the Senate needs.

I must have misunderstood another post. I thought Demint had already indicated he was going to send money to Akin. I sure hope Akin gets some support. Newt’s helped, but Akin needs some more money to fight the fight.

Go Todd!

The real question is: If this Senate Conservatives PAC was really “conservative”....why did it stop funding in the first place?

Real Conservatives never stopped supporting Todd Akin. It is a travesty that so many PhonyCons split over a silly comment...which Akin apologized repeatedly for making

Todd Akin would not be the reason that the GOP fails to retake the Senate....it will be the Liberal PhonyCons who got some worked over like effete liberals over a comment

Romney and his fans are willing to cut him all sorts of slack when it come to his poor choice of words but they are not prepared to do the same with Akin. Poetic justice if Romney loses and Akin wins.

My congressman is a second time freshman since the GOP cut off the funds in the final weeks of the 08 campaign after he voted against TARP. In 2010, the tea party sent him back and the democrats aren’t really trying to win the seat this time around.

Hopefully, Rex Elsass has done solid oppo research on his own client in preparation for what's coming his way. And muzzles Akin’s family.

Look for Levin to start badgering the RNC to start the money flow. My personal opinion is the RNC won't directly fund him, but will figure out ways to make sure he gets money.

The Guy in my district for the house has no challenger. Kevin Yoder who skinny dipped last year in the Dead Sea. He’s not that bad considering you have the city of Kansas City, Kansas in the district. He is the first republican in ten years after he got rid of the democrat in 2010.

The guy who won the senate is one of the few in the senate tea party caucus. Jerry Moran. He is very good as DeMint supports him.

Hopefully the Republican National Committee wakes up and help out because The GOP needs to win the senate. Then with Mitt as president, we don’t have to worry about the Democrats having the votes to block bills and proposals in the senate or for gridlock and filibustering. It would make thing much easier to fix the economy and the foreign policy disaster going on now.
