NEW YORK (AP) — Republican White House hopeful Mitt Romney is unlikely to win Bill Clinton's vote, but that doesn't mean he can't soak up a bit of the popular former president's luster.
The two men stood side by side Tuesday as Clinton introduced Romney before the GOP candidate's speech to Clinton's annual global conference in New York. Clinton recalled working with Romney to save AmeriCorps, and praised the former Massachusetts governor's efforts to persuade fellow Republicans to support the national service program.
Romney, taking the podium, returned the compliment.
"If there's one thing we've learned in this election season, by the way, it is that a few words from Bill Clinton can do a man a lot of good," he said, prompting loud laughter and applause from the crowd.
It was a clear nod to Clinton's speech praising President Barack Obama at the Democratic National Convention earlier in September, and the slight uptick in the polls that Obama enjoyed soon after.
"All I have to do now is wait a few days for that bounce to happen," Romney quipped.

Clinton’s remarks about Romney’s sterling business career helped him when he was being portrayed as the evil Bain vulture.
Obama is appearing at the same forum. It is just another venue to express his views, which he did well in his defense of free enterprise. And besides the fact that his remarks will garner more MSM coverage than his remarks on the hustings, it is FREE.
I think given the right circumstances Bill Clinton could ‘do a lot of good’, the man seems to have the stamina of a mule.

Romney was basically making a joke. Clinton was credited with a big Obama bounce. So Romney was saying he wonderted if his bounce would happen after being introduced by Clinton.
Good grief, it was an opportunity to speak and people here, I guess, would have preferred Romney to get up and say “Thanks Azzhole”.
Might be funny but it wouldn’t play well. LOL

He's going to be here in Ohio today. It seems like every five minutes the radio station is breaking in with traffic alerts and warnings not to bring umbrellas to the rally.
Can't just preach to the choir all the time, and you never know, some in that audience may lean toward those concepts and Romney's presence there just may change some minds. Obama's words are nothing more than sloganeering, while Romney's sound rooted in reality, surely, some there perceive that, however nuanced to their way of thinking.
The problem is Romney is right.

These types of (real or phony) compliments between politicians of opposite parties are run-of-the-mill and done all the time. I did it myself when in elective office. It's part of being polite and classy when you find yourself in similar situation....and it's part of not being a sullen boor in a civilized society.
Too many conservatives are terrific in every aspect of ideology, but woefully lacking in knowledge of politiking that goes on in the big leagues, and understanding it.
Screaming wolf on every single little thing, especially if it involves the usual age-old rites connected with campaigning, will result in you-know-what.......being eaten by the wolf.

I know someone who once attended a ballgame and drank beer with Clinton. In that narrow context of shooting the bull and getting drunk with him, he found Clinton to be a terrific guy. Somehow I don’t think that’s what Mitt meant though.
The context defined what Mitt meant. He actually said >>a few words from Clinton<< can help a guy out. He didn’t say Clinton can help a guy out.
He was alluding to Clinton speaking for O at their convention.
Then he said he would wait to see if Clinton’s words introducing him at this global initiative event would help HIM out.
It was a joke and also made a point about Obama needing Clinton to help him.
