French lab denies access to GM cancer crop study

The French scientist who linked Monsanto genetically-modified corn to cancer in rats on Thursday refused to let the EU's food safety watchdog, EFSA, verify his results.

"It's out of the question that those who authorised (Monsanto's) NK603 carry out a counter-study of our findings as there'd be a conflict of interest," Gilles-Eric Seralini said at a news conference at the European Parliament.

EFSA, which authorises the sale and planting of GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms), was asked by the European Union executive Wednesday for an opinion as soon as possible, hopefully by year's end, on a study headed by Seralini.

His research team at France's University of Caen found that rats fed on NK603 corn or exposed to the weedkiller used with it developed tumours.

NK603, a corn also called maize, is made by US agribusiness giant Monsanto and was engineered to make it resistant to Monsanto herbicide Roundup. This enables farmers to use the weedkiller in a single go, enabling substantial savings.

But for EFSA to rule on the findings, it would need to see the study's original data.

Centre-right MEP Corinne Lepage, a former French environment minister, said: "We don't want people who authorised GMOs to be carrying out the counter-study."

France will seek an immediate EU ban on imports of the corn if the study linking it to cancer in rats is deemed credible, Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault said Thursday.

The authors of the study have said it is the first experiment in GM food that followed rats throughout their lifespan, as opposed to just 90 days.

But their methodology and results and its relevance to humans have been questioned by other experts.

I'm sure that the lab is simply concerned that the data might be misused to disprove their indisputable conclusions.

His study’s paywalled. I’ll have to see if I can get access to it through the local university.

I’ve long found that the best way to look at controversial stuff is to ignore what everyone says and just read their damned paper. The crap studies are usually pretty obvious.

And yes, most of the Cult of Global Warming crap is glaringly shoddy when examined. How it passes peer review is a mystery to me unless one assumes that the reviewers are compromised idealogues who have no interest in the truth. I used to believe in global warming. Then I read their “science” for myself.

I’ve yet to see a study that condemns GM foods that didn’t have terrible techniques, statistics, controls or worse. Funny that this guy is willing to engage in science by press release but won’t let anyone examine the same issue...

Of course their study has no relevance whatsoever unless it's that rats prone to tumors can be induced to have tumors but that was already known.

On the other hand millions of people eat GM foods everyday and have for years with no detectable ill effects and will continue to do so.

Maybe the EU should stop all food imports lest a particle of GM corn drift in.

It is known in the science world, that whomever controls the research, controls the outcome. Allowing someone who makes billions off of a product to “test” it will be flawed and biased. It is just common sense.

There is no “neutrality” in science although corporations pay to make you think it is so and always the “Truth” when they lie and cheat to get the desired results. (peer reviewed hockey stick graph) .

Our belief in “studies” should be skeptical until enough studies come out to “prove” something. The trouble is, most corporations control all research and universities with their billions of dollars—so they sell lies half of the time to useful idiots and throw out the results which prove their theory wrong.

Kuhn’s Structure of Scientific Revolution shows the flaw in “normal” science.

Worldview will determine the results in most people....even if they “think” they are being unbiased—which is impossible because of their assumptions (or bribes). Cynical? Oh yes.....it is the nature of man-—Total Depravity!

My only point was that science requires validation and reproducibility.

Anybody who will not release their source data so that other scientists can confirm or refute their conclusions is not practicing science.

That's what climate-change "scientists" do... keep their data secret.

” millions of people eat GM foods everyday and have for years with no detectable ill effects”

I’m not coming down on either side but you can’t prove your premise and neither can they in the general population.

The life span of the general U.S. population is increasing and not being decimated by tumors from GM foods that are widespread in their diets. Case closed.

So y’all are okay with the government and Monsanto chemical owning/controlling the worlds sood supply?
(Myself, I don’t feel very safe with a chemical co. that created Agent Orange in total charge of the food world wide.)

I got an idea - you want to see the specific of the studies - start searching for these that were stifled -

Who is REALLY hiding studies?

:He who controls the food, controls the People.” motto of dictators of the world.

Have you never read the stories over the years of MOnsanto successfully suing/puttin out of business generational farms because after theri _ Monsanto’s hybrid, GMO crop contaminates a neighboring farm - Monsanto then maintains the farmer’s crop NOW BELONG TO MONSANTO. The say the farmer must pay them for the crop AND cannot save any of their own seed year to year (which farmers have done since the first crops were planted on earth) but must BUY sed from Monsanto EVERY year...which they cannot afford.

Ever hear of what towns in Canada had to go through with Monsanto ans their roundup week killer?

Ever research the links between Monsanto and our politicians in DC?

Ever studied their bogus studies?

The tide is starting to turn. But a lot of farmers have been put out of business. Monsanto and the gov’t mean to control the world food supply. These few links don’t even sratch the service -

you sincere about wanting to know all sides? Do some honest research.

It’s also all tied in with Agenda 21 and the plan for DEpopulation - not “population control” but DE-populaton.

Tell ya what. YOu eat, grow what you want - but don’t grow any GMO’s next to MY land. I’ll sue ya. ;o)

The tide is turning.

Percy - part 11

this gets hilarious in it’s absurdity -

270,000 farmers now suing Monsanto

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PMuwry8MUc

AAgain - this is just the tip of the iceburg - uncontaminated Canola is now non-existant ... Monsanto and “friends” intend to make ALL foods owned/conrolled by them. The people of the world, those who are left after the planned DE population, will forever be subjugated.

the leading players are profiled in the last half of this clip

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BIbuRMVVekg&feature=related

and just why do you thin they want to mandate vacinations? And why is Bill GAtes leading point on this? People can be sterilzed and worse through vaccinations -

research Bill gates on vaccinations

in the short run, we can become individually more independent on our food - in the long term?

Bravo! From another thread on this study:

‘Real Scientists’ and Forbes should be so fussy about the ‘science’ behind the removal of PPA and CFC inhalers from the market and replacing them with an inferior products, the decision of the FDA to set ‘standards’ re the amount of plastic in protein supplements used in pet food, the declaration that the CO2 is a dangerous pollutant, the mandated replacement of CFC refrigerants, the replacement of the incandescent light bulbs, . . .. By coincidence all of these actions benefited global corporations at the the expense of the consumer and freedom of choice in the market place.

Agenda 21: Conspiracy Theory or Real THreat

Agenda 21 in One Easy Lesson

If you want to know what Agenda 21 is like, remember the ethicist behind ObamaCare believes medical resouces should be concentrated on those between 14 and 40.

Far from it. You’re forgetting advances in medical care and every problem doesn’t have to be a tumor...

If you have information on a large percentage, anywhere even close to the rate the rats suffered, of the American populace being laid low by GM foods then by all means share it with us.

You can’t because such evidence doesn’t exist, in fact quite the opposite. If GM foods are so harmful, where is the evidence?

Thanks for the link to Rosa’s book. I had not heard of her. Interesting person. Her book is on my to get list.

It seems to me a lot of arguments are framed in false alternatives. Common sense is just thrown out the window. So many forget that ironically big government and regulations, hidden information benefit the rich, the powerful, the connected. Transparency, OTH, benefits the consumer and the free market.

If you question the safety of a product, e.g. GMO’s you are lumped in with greenies who want the environment to be as pristine as ‘clean rooms’. By association you must be anti-free market. When in fact large global corps love regulation and big government - a great way to suppress start ups and competition. Monsanto is about as anti free market as they come.

If you ask me global communism has crafted clever tales for both the left and the right.

You are right about global communism - but I see a glimmer of realization in some lib/socialist camps that their shiny little puppet-boy’s strings may have more connection to the plans for the reestablishment of the Caliphate than communism - they may be getting nervous about having unleashed a monster that will override them as well?

Give me a few weeks, a little metadata, some computer time and a good statistics package and I’m sure I can give you some.

Can I guess which industry you work for?
