The crew will wear the Lufthansa collection Dirndls, created in the typical Lufthansa colours, during three international flights before and during the 2012 Oktoberfest beer festival in Munich.
More than six million revellers from around the globe are set to descend on Munich from Saturday for the world's biggest beer fest, complete with lederhosen, pretzels and plenty of the amber nectar.
With the traditional cry of "O'zapft is" ("The keg is tapped") on the stroke of midday, the mayor of Munich will kick off the 16-day extravaganza of beer-swilling and sausage-gobbling to the accompaniment of an oompah band.
As ever, the 179th Oktoberfest will also feature traditional Bavarian uniforms -- women resplendent in long dirndls, lace-up dresses with plunging necklines, and men in obligatory lederhosen or suede knee breeches.
This year's party stretches over 65 acres, with around 12,000 waiters and waitresses expected to serve more than seven million "mass" (litre-sized glasses) to punters in 35 tents, the biggest of which seats 10,000.
To soak up the suds, drinkers will consume tens of thousands of giant soft pretzels, pork, dumplings and other delicacies. Last year, party-goers worked through 118 oxen, 53 calves and thousands of chickens.

In Bavarian breweries, the pork knuckle’s indelicacy is perfect, because beers are brewed for maximum flavor, unfiltered and unpasteurized, so that each sip is a meal on the tongue.

I went to Munich from Vicenza Italy when I was in the Army there in 1973...what a Blast!
It was an Insane Beer blast! for weeks and the Whole City was wild!

I was there in July. Most relaxing fun I've had in a long time. My 17 y.o. son had his first liter of beer. Got looped. :-)
Getting the rental car up to 110 mph on the autobahn was fun too. :)

I always had a Spaten Brau whenever I traveled to München. I left Caserma Ederle in Sept 1961 after 2 years.
Was in Munich in March, 2007 - loved it!!! Oktoberfest in “Zinzinnati” will have to make due, now. Although, I just returned from a fun evening at the Louisville German-American Club’s “Oktoberfest”...fun times.
Beware of the Alps. You can slip and it'll take a while to get out!
This is pure torture....I work in Afghanistan and haven’t had a beer, and, well, you know....in almost a year.
I think a lot of these busty “Frauleins” are imported Polish girls brought in to accommodate the huge crowds

Ummmmmmm....Nope. I mentioned before I was stationed in Germany, in Neu Ulm (between Augsburg and Stuttgart). The Bavarian ladies are definitely "full figured".

I lived in New Ulm, Mn for several years and their Heritage Fest and October Fest is pretty good. They get a lot of EU visitors for these two events.
Since Poland is part of the EU, much more likely these days that for the Oktoberfest crowds, some Polish Frauleins will be brought in. Poles can work anywhere in the EU
I have to get one of these outfits for my wife for around the house....

Yep, know where New Ulm, MN is. I lived in S. Mpls and the family move to a farm just across the river from Wabasha over in WI. Loved it when "Grumpy Old Men" came out because I knew all the places it was filmed, both in Wabasha and Prescott.
