Newt Gingrich: Akin won ballot spot in `fair fight,' GOP should back him
St. Louis Post Dispatch ^ | 091912 | Kevin McDermott

Posted on 09/21/2012 10:16:02 AM PDT by Fred

ST. LOUIS • Newt Gingrich is coming to St. Louis Monday for a Todd Akin fundraiser because he wants “to tell the people of Missouri” that they have the right to stand by the Republican Senate candidate of their choice, regardless of what the party's leaders tell them.

In a phone interview today with the Post-Dispatch, Gingrich, the former House Speaker and presidential candidate, said the controversy surrounding Akin isn't the point. “The people of Missouri picked him to be their nominee in a fair fight.”

He also warned what others have said: That for the GOP to throw in the towel on the Missouri Senate seat, as the party's national leaders appear to be doing, will probably mean losing the Senate.

“I don't see how the Republicans are going to win the Senate if they throw away a seat like Missouri.”

Gingrich will attend a St. Louis fundraiser Monday for Akin, the Senate candidate. It's an event that may be at least as important to the struggling campaign for its message as for its money.

That doesn’t mean that he can win, he can’t. He would have done the country a favor if he had bowed out. He wouldn’t, so the people of Missouri are screwed.

Boy are you the sour grapes today. Did you watch the debate this morning between Akin and McCaskill? If not, you really should have. Todd Akin took McCrakel to the wood shed.

Watch his poll numbers climb tomorrow and all the way to election day. Of course, I guess you don't think Newt as well as Demint supporting him financially will help either.

The GOP establishment got their candidate, but then he blew it. Give a conservative a chance.

If he gets elected, he will represent the left

Interesting take, didn't think of it in those terms... nevertheless, still worth the risk.

Give a conservative a chance

At this stage, with the Newt fundraiser, and DeMint signaling that he will support him... there's zero chance he'll back out.

As far as I’m concerned kin and Romney are rather similar. After his giga gaffe, I though Akin should pull out. As afar as Romney was concerned, I contributed to both Cain and Santorum to stop Romney. Now, like it or not, it’s Romney or the Illegal, so I’m giving all I reasonably can to the Romney campaign, the choice being between cancer and not cancer. If Akin hangs in there after Sept. 25, it will be either him or Her Vileness, giving us the same kind of choice as in Romney vs. Obama, and with the same kind of conclusion. Party discipline is OK until it’s a choice between party discipline and winning a vital Senate seat, then winning wins out.

He has not blown a damn thing. He will be another voice with Jim DeMint in the US Senate, this is the ONLY reason why the loser fhole rinos in the senate do not want him.

He can beat that proabort hog

The problem is not conservatives, or even Republicans (except for some women), the problem for Akin is Independents. McCaskill has millions in the bank to remind the voters what he said and it will keep him from getting above 50%. The race just isn’t competitive anymore.

Represent the left? Are you nuts? Akin has a 97.24% ACU rating. He is among the most conservative members of Congress. He voted against the Prescription Drug program, TARP, no-child left behind, and lots of other left and moderate Rep supported legislation.

If elected, Akin will join Demiont, Cruz, Lee, Vitter, Sessions, and the rest of the conservatives in the Senate. The GOP Establishment don't like Akin because he is too conservative.

So the 71% of the MO voters who voted against Obamacare will vote to reelect the senator who voted FOR Obamacare and does not want it repealed rather than for the candidate who voted AGAINST Obamacare and wants it repealed? For some verbal gaffe? I guess MO is going Obama.

They want more Mitt’s. After he gets the nomination he says abortion for the “health” of the mother is what he believes.

That is the quality of man the GOP-e wants.

Look, he beat out the conservative candidates in the primary, good for him. But conservatives didn’t force him to screw up. He was the hand picked candidate of McCaskill, and Rove was backing him. The GOP establishment screwed the pooch and now they don’t want to be held accountable.

so the GOP-e wants us to vote for Romney because he’s better than Obama...

but they ignore that same standard with Akin?
Isn’t Akin better than McCaskill????

As I said many times before. I support Todd Unless and or until he withdraws. Withholding money by the RNC and MO GOP doesn’t stick to the main goal of Freeing us from Claire. She is the problem. Todd WON THE ELECTION so right or wrong get behind him and gain a Senate Seat.

The Party is not doing anyone favors here in MO.
GO TODD GO!!!!!

I no FIRSTHAND how the stupid NRSC picks their candidate and how they attempt to ‘pick’ their opposition. The Al D’mato NY race was one of these. The stupid NRSC assured all that Schumer would be much easier to beat in the NY US Senate race, there by ‘securing’ his win in the primary against Geraldine Ferraro. YOU KNOW THE REST OF THE STORY...

Lard-butt baby killing Claire can hallucinate all day long about how the DNSC pulled off this great coup with Akins. However, she has one huge problem, the voter is in no mood for her crap this election cycle.

“If he gets elected, he will represent the left.”

Doubtful, but I suppose he might. On the other hand, we know for certain who McCaskill will support if she wins.

Romney and his ‘team’ are making GAFFES a minute... but nooo!!! do we hear demands for MR to get out of race? no! ... cuz Romney has all the bucks and is the candyman...

As always real conservatives rise to the occasion and fight for the greater good and support Romney, while f-ing RINOS are whining all day long abt team Romney and lining up to beg Obama to be sure and APPOINT them again to some BS committee in the BELTWAY....

I think that you may be assuming that voters are rational and think through how they vote. Many do no such thing, they vote on emotion and those emotion change like the wind. Claire is portraying Akin as a lunatic who will ruin their lives. The emotional ones are going to be very receptive to that argument.
