Romney Video: Another Gust of Wind for a Campaign Already Teetering
Yahoo! ^ | 9/18/12 | Alex Roarty

In politics, timing is everything. And so it might be with gaffes.

Mitt Romney’s declaration that 47 percent of Americans -- all of President Obama's supporters -- want handouts from the government, secretly caught on tape during a private fundraiser earlier this year and published Monday by Mother Jones, is the latest errant remark in a presidential race replete with them. But unlike previous gaffes, the timing of this one could be more troublesome -- because there isn't time for it to fade.

Romney’s campaign has been besieged by reports of internal disputes and worrying poll numbers, and was already fighting to prove it remains on track to win in November. The perception of a dire predicament might not be fair -- surveys show Obama’s post-convention bounce fading -- but it was the reality faced by a campaign forced to deny rumors its chief strategist was on his way out.

Concerns about the Romney campaign’s ability to win are now amplified. If the campaign wanted to change the subject from its own troubles, Monday’s videotaped revelation will make the task impossible for at least a little while longer. Instead of telling people why they should vote against President Obama during the race’s home stretch, the campaign will be forced to explain why it can still win.

I think in the end they are gonna be shocked by how many people are going to get up and cheer what Romney said. I only wish he would have addressed how he plans to deal with are rapidly exploding taker class.

Compare to Obama’s “Bitter clingers” comment. Candid moments both.

Despite all the liberal gloating and conservative handwringing, the latest Rassmussen tracking poll (9/14-16) has Romney ahead by 2%.

You got to love the narrative the media is running with.

Cool hand Obama has the momentum (as gas prices soar, Middle East goes up in flames, and the economy tanks).

And the polls are in Obama’s favor (despite Obama losing 4 from Gallup (+7 to +3) and 7 from Rasmussen (+5 to -2) in the past week).

Everything is upside down.

The tape in question has been around for months. Why is it coming out now and why are the news media so uniform in their narrative depictions of it?

Big percentage of the entitlement crowd don’t get off their duff to vote Rat or GOP. They know either party is going to toss out the goodies so why bother. Myth might win still but the eaters wont care one bit.

Romney may lead in the popular vote, but he is behind on the electoral college. Need 270 to win. Right now base what I have seen it is possible for Obama to lose the popular vote but win the election thru the electoral college like GWB in 2000.

It would be interesting to see how many articles the author of this article posted on the failure of the obumbler foreign policy, specifically as it relates to the Mideast.

And how many stories he wrote regarding the obumbler lies as to the cause of the violence.

Hell, he said what needed to be said. Who cares if it was indelicate or not. It was frank. It was true. It was a winner.

World in flames under Obama, nothing.

Romney tells the truth, massive scandal.

If you look at the RCP electoral map, Romney needs to win all his solid and leaning states, and pick up from the toss up states FL, NC, VA, OH and any one other. Very doable.

The ObamaBots in the press had this spy tape, made by Jimmy Carter’s grandson (who let him in to this fundraiser???), for months. They brought it out now to affect the election and jack up BO’s polling numbers. And it just happens to help the media deflect attention from the Obama administration’s terrible Middle East debacle.

The Democrat media will inflate this “gaffe” to appear greater than Obama’s failure in both the foreign and domestic policies. It’s the way they do business.

Yes, you'd be right, except the Romney campaign responded in their usual incompetent fashion. The recording was fine. It actually gave me far more confidence in Romney since I could see that he really gets it. Mitt actually speaks pretty well when he is talking off the cuff in a venue like that. The problem is, he gave a ridiculous press conference and started trying to walk back what he said.

Between now and election day, ANYTHING that Romney says on ANY subject will be reported as “controversial”, “troubling”. “a misstep” or a “gaffe.” So what if the economy continues to deteriorate? So what if our embassies are being attacked, and our diplomats killed? So what if Iran is on the brink of obtaining nuclear weapons? So what if we threw Israel under the bus? The media is desperately trying to shift the focus away from Obama’s failed Presidency.

Mitt needs to learn to lie. If you want to win an election, NEVER SPEAK THE TRUTH. This new batch of “Americans” love it when you pee on their leg and tell ‘em it’s raining.

This will not hurt Romney for the following reasons:

1. It’s true.
2. He know’s its true.
3. His voters know it’s true.
