Skip to comments.Run a McCain style presidential campaign..get a McCain presidential result.....vanity discussion
Posted on 09/16/2012 8:15:35 AM PDT by teg_76
While i do believe that most polls are over sampling democrats, i think it's clear Romney would lose if the election were held today...Rasmussen has him up only one but the swing state picture is much worse when you look at the individual states...especially Ohio. We are kiddig ourselves if we think were going to match the 2010 turnout model with Obama at the top of the ticket. It will probably be somewhere between 2008 and 2010.
The only time Romney made progress in the polls was when he added Ryan to the ticket. THats the one of the few times he has sowed any guts in this campaign.....
Mitt, unshackle Ryan and start attaking Obama hard, because if you continue this McCain style campaign you are headed for the same result.
he addedRyan to the ticke.
Your concern troll has been noted.
There needs to be a three prong attack! Attack the Obama, his policies and the leftist media. In other words, stick a fork in them!
Think about this, McCain picks Palin and loses (no fault of Palin) and Romney picks Ryan, and is literally snatching defeat from the jaws of victory,by doing absolutely nothing to win?
The sign I am looking for, and hoping for, is that one of the "surprises" R2 makes, is to get Palin and the TP fired up to act? If Palin endorses late in the game, it would solidify millions of voters to act/move.
Waiting and wondering...
Romney needs to lose the yes men and listen to the conservatives who don’t like him. He’ll be a better candidate if he does. This race shouldn’t be close.
Conservatism works when tried.
Keep kidding yourself....were u the same poster on fr that said obamacare would go down on a 9-0 decision? Wake up! Having blinders on isnt helpful...i bet everybody u know is voting for Romney..with that scientific piece of evidence he must be a lock...
Mitt has to take the gloves off (like he did to his Republican opponents). I don’t think this will cost him any votes from independents. They already know the country’s in deep trouble and would probably welcome some aggressive tactics and bold moves.
Mindlessly believe massively biases media polls, ignore the serious polls, get threads like this one.
Does anyone REALLY believe a north eastern liberal like Romney will do anything as President but delay the inevitable ?
They ALL know their socialist experiment will collapse the economy.
Obama/Soetoro lusts to make it happen ASAP
Romney can do nothing to stop it, only delay it by tweaking socialist “free” programs not devolving them all to the States as the Constitution requires.
So, pick your poison.
The first debate will show how he has decided to drive for the prize. If he doesn’t leverage all the ammo that has been handed to him during the first debate we can give him more advice. He seems to be setting the stage with some pre-debate comments 9Obama tends to say things that aren’t true, etc.) and he might surprise a bunch of us. I also can’t wait to see Ryan face off with Biden - “Joe, let’s call this thing off; I feel a bit guilty engaging in a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent...”
Ryan is merely a GOP-E bromide for the tea party to ensure their vote. All the usual suspects of liberal-moderate republicans are whispering in Mitt’s willing ear to reach out to (disaffected) liberals. They are his people.
Having said all that, he is getting my anti-obama vote with little or no expectation of dramatic results.
I do think the economy would improve significantly under Mitt. But agree with you about not expectating much else in the way of dramatic results.
At this point, however, we are in a sinking ship about to capsize and we’ll all drown if we don’t at least stop the leaks, replace the “captain”, and right the ship. If we can accomplish that we have a chance to make it into port for another voyage.
Say... has anyone seen both Romney and McCain together at the same time any place live? Hmmm... more than coincidence?
See post 7...and by the way..Rass has us losing in VA and OH...do some math...
Why must everyone who doesn’t view things the way you do be a troll... this is a legit concern, if Romney can’t put this thing over the top we are f’ed, and it does appear that the fight is not in his belly, likely for fear and probably lack of conviction. On the other hand, Paul Ryan is a totally different story, he’s got wit, charm and cuts to the quick on issues of eminent concern, so much so that it leaves Obama with indignant-indigestion.
No. But thanks for asking all the same!
And I’m sure you must, because you sit around all day watching CNN and CBS, think that everyone love Obama, hates Romney, and cant wait to give him 4 more years.
Then you show up here emoting all over the site in some blind panic looking for similar people sitting on their butts all day watching MSM programming to cry with.
Last time I remember that moronic display was during the Wisconsin recall.
“A native of Jackson, Mississippi, Stewart Stevens is a veteran of American political campaigns at the highest levels. In addition to his work for Gov. Romney, he has also worked in the presidential campaigns of Bob Dole, George W. Bush, and John McCain.”
Stewart Stevens managed the losing campaigns of McLame and Dole so now Romney expects to win?
Obama has run a personally negative campaign on Romney coloring him as a tax evader with offshore accounts, greedy, and uncaring about people. Basically Obama has no record to run on and the surprising thing is he has temporarily with the help of the MSM changed this from a referendum on a dismally performing incumbent to a choice between two personalities.Romney needs to go negative by saturating the airwaves that the economy is abysmal and at the fail point because of one person - Obama and here are the reasons why he has brought it to the fail point. He needs to stay with that message so Obama cannot foist this thing back to Bush. Eventually it will sink in.
They (We) don't call the GOP "...the stupid party..." for no reason.
Sure, it could happen again, owing mostly to the GOP suicidal desire to appease the middle, the moderates.
Check out a movie ( "The Man In the Grey Flannel Suit," starring Gary Cooper.) to see how GOP's desire to conform became a disasterous, albeit well-accepted, obsession.
“Why must everyone who doesnt view things the way you do be a troll... this is a legit concern”
Like the concern in 2000? 2002? 2004? 2010? The Wisconsin recall?
If you are sitting on your rear “worrying” and coming here looking for therapy, then you are a troll. Go out and canvas if you need to feel better.
Those of us that are paying attention see these polls, which is 99.9% of the concern trolls problem, and see a deliberate effort to poll more Democrats than GOP/Ind, banking on a turnout from 2008 that CANNOT be repeated due to dissatisfaction with a sitting president that has a lousy economy and an electorate that by a margin of 68% says that the nation is going in the wrong direction.
And with that, he manages to get at most 2-4% point leads in those polls that is oversampling Dems by 10-20%.
That is not “wishful thinking”, that is just plain fact, that a president does not win in these conditions no matter how many articles you read on MSNBC or CNN.
It is not 2008 anymore.
It’s not turnout models that made Ras change his sample, its PARTY AFFILIATION that has changed now from 2008.
More people identify themselves as Republican.
And what is the current Rasmussen poll showing in VA?
The problem is the base, us, see this as an existential contest requiring an ideologically clear campaign. Romney and, to a lesser extent, Ryan see the issue as competence requiring a technocratic solution. We’re just not going to get a fire-breathing “death to the enemies of freedom” -style message from Romney. Nevertheless, we need to first get Obama out so we can live to fight the good fight another day; Romney is the best weapon at hand.
I think if it was today Romney would win in a landslide, as he will on Nov. 6th. You are doing precisely what the media wants you to do.. PANIC! Stop drinking their KOOL-AID.
You need a Chucky Cheese Troll pop up game-bop-bop-bop... should make you feel better...
while I may personally have preferred a more aggressive campaign than Romney is running... this campaign is NOTHING like McLame’s
Romney is staking everything on Obama disqualifing himself, and simply presenting himself as an acceptable alternative.
In a month and a half we’ll know if the strategy worked.
Mitt sit down with Palin and have a meeting of the mind. agree to her having a meaningful cabinet position and then turn her loose. let her barnstorm where she thinks it’s needed. Like an independent campaign and yes that would entail the risk of limiting yourself to one term. At least that way would get you one term.
Please cease those activities Republicans are so good at, IE snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
Even better, stay home, watch TV, tell the Democrats to pound sand when it comes to debates and let Palin and Ryan do the campaigning.
Mitt needs to run like he did against Gingrich.
He will not be able to just slide into the Presidency.
That said, if the polls are truely oversampled with Democrats and in fact if he is 8 points up at this time he may think he can coast.
Mitt should hire me or some other surly curmudgeon to stand close and elbow him in the short ribs every time his mouth starts spewing progressive garbage.
Romney doesn’t find the Obama regime anywhere near offensive enough to do battle with it. He really isn’t concerned with issues of vital importance to conservatives.
both sides seem to be satisfied with where the race currently is. I have never seen a race like this in my life, boring doesn’t even describe it... it’s more like NOTHING.
Romney should refuse to debate Obama on the grounds that the moderators are way to biased towards Obama.
Either refuse or just the two of them on stage asking questions of each other.
HMMM go on stage letting the mods think they will run it and then ignore them and engage in a true debate directly with Obama. That would leave the mods spitting and cursing and Obama at a total lose without the soft questions.
I’m wondering if Romney has a rope a dope strategy or if he’s just a dope.
I have this suspicion that the Obama campaign is flooding the news cycles with small inconsequential missteps in order to keep Romney underwater.
Some notes on other things mentioned in this thread.
Sitting down with Palin does nothing at this point.
No, they aren’t taking one for the team to blunt the Tea Party. The stakes are too high.
Ryan pick was rock solid. A popular politician from the Rust Belt area. He’ll appeal to the blue collar workers who haven’t been drugged, hypnotized or otherwise left wing fanatics.
McCain is a curmudgeon and he couldn’t win against anybody. Even now he’s reverting back to his curmudgeon ways and admonishing Romney on his campaign.
Ron Paul was, is and always will be an idiot.
On the other hand, Paul Ryan is a totally different story, hes got wit, charm and cuts to the quick on issues of eminent concern, so much so that it leaves Obama with indignant-indigestion.
And the media will do their best to not let their viewers see Ryan on TV. This leaves Romney floundering with his “snatch defeat from the jaws of victory” act.
Don’t know what election your watching but I’m still thinking R/R will win 317-221 or more, Could be as high as 353-185.
Wait till the debates before the “sky is falling” posts.
McCain is a progressive, a Fabian socialist, a sufferer of Stockholm syndrome and has used up all credit accrued while in uniform. A curmudgeon, hardly.
Can’t say I disagree with that...
I hope you dont ever work on a campaign or in PR.
Your suggestions are to refuse to debate because “WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA the press is unfair to me”, and to stay away from the campaign trail and let Palin take over campaigning?
Are you serious? lol
“Romney doesnt find the Obama regime anywhere near offensive enough to do battle with it.”
Yes. To Romney this is just a primary against a fellow left-winger. In fact Romney’s speech is the same as Hillary’s in the Democratic Primary: I’ll manage the welfare state better than Obama; the details of my socialist programs are better. Hillary seemed more scared of an Obama presidency than Romney is of 4 more years.
(Now real fear, the GOP-E had that when Huckabee won Iowa in 2008.)
And you sound like the progressive campaign advisers that always end up snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
My other screen name is Surly Curmudgeon! McCain does not come close.
GOP has to face it. They picked a string of small idea Republicans, starting with no-vision Bush. McCain and Romney are one-trick ponies - for McCain it’s war and for Romney it’s money. No Eisenhowers, Nixons or Reagans who were unafraid to meet the enemy face to face.
MY....MY.... so angry. I thought I had been here more than long enough that no one could call me a Troll. Wonder of wonders a “noobie” pops right up and does so, calling me a Troll. LOL I might even roll on the floor for that one.
I think you are missing the point. The political debates as run by the liberal media of late are not debates in a real sense. They are a comedy act with Romney the straight man and Romney can play that so well that he most certainly will snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
Now change the parameters and have Romney tell the mods to shut the hell up and enter into a real debate one on one with Obama. That way he avoids the mods subtly poking fun of him and leaves Obama floundering with out soft questions from the mods making him look good.
You live in a fantasy land of some sort. Let’s try to keep the “what can Romney do better on the campaign trail before he loses” to more realistic suggestions.
