The Folly of a Conventional Strike on Iran
israelnationalnews ^ | September 15, 2012 | Yonatan Silverman

It would be a terrible tragedy if a conventional military strike against Iran did not achieve its objective. Israel, in particular, is the country with it’s neck in Iran’s nuclear noose. For Israel’s sake, Iran must be stopped from producing Islamic terrorist nukes, and since negotiations and sanctions have failed along those lines, the logical alternative is to attack Iran with nuclear weapons on the model of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

I say use neutron weapons over the sites and then destroy the sites using teams on the ground. There is no way that conventional bunker-busters can destroy the sites...even nuclear bunker-busters would not be a certain bet. A quick shelter can be constructed on the ground to protect a team from neutron bombardment. Fire a battlefield neutron weapon to clear the area around the site, rinse and repeat as necessary to keep Iranian armor away. An EMP weapon used before attacking the sites would also be a nice touch.

It would have sucked if we lost WWII...

No war with Iran, please. At least wait until we’re actually threatened, and nit because their territorial ambitions coincide with our “interests,” or Isreal is our ally and once Isreal is gone there’ll be nothing between them and our front door but thousands of miles of oceans and other countries.

Best of all, can we wait until we’re attacked, as we haven’t since Japan, or if you believe in conspiracy theories Ft. Sumter, or if you want to go back to when the attack necessitated a full-scale war 1812.

“It would have sucked if we list WWII”

Did I miss something? Did Iran bomb Pearl Harbor? (Could they, even if we showed them how?)

The IAF has several deliverable EMP warheads that will be detonated over Iran should Obama win in November.

If Mitt wins, the old alliance will be reestablished and together we will shock and awe the evil Mullahs back to the knuckle dragging days of their pedophile prophet.

WE need to pour the coal to Iran. Hammer them anyway possible. They are a terrorist organization and sponsors of global jihad AKA terrorism. Terrorism against innocents.

Screw them AND their greatest global supporter, Obama.

It really is too bad that we have to be at war with our government!

I’ve been advocating a non-nuclear EMP weapon for some time. Launched from the Arabian Sea and shaped so as to do minimal damage to the neighbors. Would literally put Iran back in the stone age.

Although they sorta already are :)

Well, you missed the mark...you sound like you are responding to someone else.

Call me a pessimist, but I see no solution unless and until Israel is evacuated, planted in the western hemisphere, probably at the 4-corner junction (Utah, NM, CO, and AZ—there’s easily enough government land to house the whole population) that was considered for their homeland in ‘46. Then let the Muslim world go to wherever it deserves to go. Any other solution means our military will be forever deployed in the area. Do we really want that?

America is in a holy war with radical Islam and no Muslim nation can be trusted...we need a friendly country as a base of operations against the Islamists who will not rest until we, their “Great Satan” have been murdered, converted or enslaved.

Also, how are we going to do Armageddon if we don't have access to Armageddon? The buttes of Utah are not exactly Golgotha.

Well, the Navajo suicide bombers in the Four Corners area would be a persistent problem. :)

Very foolish.

Israel would receive worldwide condemnation for any first use of nukes (including nuclear EMPs) in the ME, & probably a devastating boycott. I imagine Obama would be the loudest condemner, ending our special relationship.

There is no comparison with Hiroshima & Nagasaki. At the time, the world had no idea of the dangers of radiation & fallout. No country has since used nuclear weapons, for obvious reasons: One use leads to another use, which leads to multiple uses which leads to nuclear Armageddon.

There is no guarantee that ballistic missiles do no go astray. Ask North Korea. There is also no guarantee that fallout doesn't stray onto other countries (Russia), who may decide to respond in kind. What about all those incinerated foreigners in Iran - Russians, Chinese, & many others? Their governments are not gonna be happy. Some may retaliate.

It is a lazy attitude to decide that a conventional attack would not work or be too hard. Israel can conventionally destroy Iran's air defense, air force, & power generating infrastructure in a matter of days. After that, a sustained bombing effort on nuke facilities, resistant Iranian forces, & THE GOVERNMENT of Iran will ultimately topple the mullahs.

I believe the Iranian nuclear threat can best be ended by ending the mullocracy. Israel can make life so miserable & dangerous for the mullahs that they can no longer control the country. If Israel can turn off the lights & water long enough, while keeping the mullahs on the run, I believe the Iranian people will finally put the mullahs out of business. I do not believe the Iranian people will back the mullahs once the darkness & misery sets in for a while.

This scenario will take time - weeks or months, but it is better than being a world pariah.

One more thing: I have no doubt Israel has some pretty impressive surprises in store for Iran. This is not gonna be a few bomber sorties like Osiris or Syria. I expect a terrifying display of destruction - shock & awe, designed not only to destroy the nuclear facilities, but to completely demoralize, if not kill, the mullahs & convince Iranians to change their leadership immediately.

From discussions with the limited number of Iranian-Americans I know, the great majority of Iranians already would LOVE to “replace their leadership immediately”—so they don’t need convincing. The problem is the inability of the populace to effectuate the well-entrenched Mullahs. They tried taking the initial steps toward doing that several years ago, received absolutely ZERO support from the Muslim American President Obama’s administration and subsequently had their “uprising” suppressed even before it could be completely born.
