Huntsman: Romney's Reaction to Arab Protests a 'Problem'
National Journal ^ | Sept 13, 2012 | Matt Vasilogambros

Posted on 09/14/2012 6:29:40 PM PDT by robowombat

Former U.S. Ambassador to China and presidential candidate Jon Huntsman said on Friday that Mitt Romney’s response to the violent protests in the Middle East and North Africa posed a “problem” for the man he endorsed several months ago.

Romney’s decision to criticize the Obama administration was ill-advised and was a lost opportunity, Huntsman said on MSNBC’s Morning Joe. “This was an opportunity to instruct, to elucidate, to educate, to talk about how you put the pieces back together again in North Africa and the Middle East,” he said. “Not to condemn, not to criticize, not to turn it into a political event, but to explain to the American people what we're going to do during a time of need, during a time of crisis, during a time of uncertainty.”

In a time where relations between the U.S. and the Arab world is strained, and questions surrounding the broader implications of the Arab Springs are prevalent, Huntsman said that Romney should have explained his position on the democratic uprisings of late.

“I don't know what Governor Romney is proposing at this point,” Huntsman said.

While protests were still taking place outside the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, where protesters breached the compound, Romney went after President Obama for what he called “apologizing” for the U.S. The Romney campaign cited a statement by the embassy that condemned religious intolerance.

Obama has pledged to “bring those who killed our fellow Americans to justice.” On Friday, Huntsman praised the president for his actions in the wake of the tragedy overseas.

“The president has said that he will go after those who killed our American diplomats abroad,” Huntsman said. “I think these are things that all Americans can rally around.”

Well, let’s get Huntsman as the next ambassador to Libya and then he can show us how things should be done there.

“Who cares what this jackass thinks? He’s less relevant than Charlie Crist.”

The media needs another RINO media suckup. John McCain getting a bit old.

Being a former Ambassador, Hunstman has ceded his b@ll$ in favor of “tact” and “nuance”. He is incapable of understanding what pure naked truth, and its implications are all about. He thinks Romney should have pulled a Chamberlain like the rest of the Administration. Romney did educate folks - he hinted that sometimes, to put all the pieces back together again, one needs to break a few thongs and make more pieces.

And who are you to Judge?

Who am I to judge? I am a citizen. Public figures are fair game. Huntsman with his combination of holier than thou smarm and his political establishment contempt for the mass of average Americans makes me want to vomit. His old man bought him his political career and goes around ranting about anyone who says anything untoward about sonny boy. Are you perhaps one of the old man’s flunkies or just a Ute who is very much impressed by wealthy LDS types.?

There is bad blood towards the Romneys by the Huntsmans. Jon Huntsman Jr. is an elitist of the worst sort. He thinks Mitt Romney shouldn’t have been in the limelight; he should have been. He thinks he is a foreign policy expert because of his experience as Ambassador to China and the fact that he can speak Chinese (he was appointed by Obama so that should tell you something about Huntsman right there). Jon Huntsman the younger is quite liberal and is politically ambitious and thinks Mitt isn’t as qualified as he is.

The bad blood goes back to the Winter Olympics held in Utah years ago where Mitt Romney was brought in to save it from financial ruin, which he did. Jon Huntsman the younger was also in contention for that position, but Mitt was chosen, not Jon, to fix the Olympics. Jon Huntsman was ticked off about this bigtime and the grudge remains.

When Mitt ran for Prez the first time, it was expected Huntsman the younger would support Mitt in the primaries. Mitt and Jon, both Mormons, are distantly related (3rd cousins, once removed). Jon didn’t, he supported John McCain instead. Jon’s father initially worked on Mitt’s campaign. He quit after his son threw his support to McCain, and after that the ties between the two Mormon families were basically severed.

Bottom line, Mitt and Jon don’t like each other, although Mitt doesn’t badmouth Jon, but Jon does badmouth Mitt any chance he gets. He’s a nasty, elitist piece of work, and if Mitt Romney actually gets in to run for Prez in 2016, odds are Jon Huntsman will then jump in also to further pursue his animosity and rivalry towards Mitt. This is the background filler for the Romney and Huntsman families and the basis of the rivalry between them.

Thanks for taking the time to post this enlightening comment. I believe you are correct about JH being an inflated elitist gasbag with a huge sense of entitlement.
