After days of protests over an anti-Islam film, American diplomatic missions in the Middle East and North Africa were braced for further violence after Friday prayers. The US put its overseas missions on high alert.
Germany has closed its embassies in a number of Muslim-majority countries in fear of attacks. "We are observing how the security situation develops with great attentiveness and we have increased security precautions at a number of foreign missions," a spokesman for the German Foreign Office told SPIEGEL ONLINE. Embassies in North Africa, Afghanistan and Pakistan are believed to be among those affected.

You know... Bush could have done a lot of what you have described in the first couple of weeks after 9-11 and had most of the world on his side. We missed a real opportunity, and instead entered into this stupid war with no chance of winning.... and only getting our guys and gals shot up.
Since the overwhelming majority of people in the American news media are Democrats, you can’t count on them for objective news reporting. You have to go to European sources.

More than a few Europeans like to bitch about America or talk America down. However, many of them will admit that they are glad the U.S. is there and they normally look to us (at least NATO did) to carry the heavy water and do the right thing.
