DALLAS -
The Dallas-based truck driver who ended up in a Mexican jail because of the ammunition he was carrying in his trailer was supposed to be sentenced on Wednesday, but the hearing was postponed for a week.
Jabin Bogan, 27, has been in a maximum security prison since April.
After a judge significantly reduced the charges against him last month, Bogan learned the remaining charge, possession of ammunition, could be punishable by a fine up to $20,000 fine and six years in prison.
Bogan's attorney is pushing for a fine only.
His family in North Texas said they don't have that kind of money, and the company he worked has stopped offering financial help.
So they have begun a fund drive among his fellow truckers to raise money to bring him home.
Five months ago, Bogan was making deliveries in El Paso when he was supposed to deliver a load of ammunition to a wholesaler in Phoenix.
The driver said he got lost and ended up on the Mexican border, where a law enforcement officer told him to drive across the bridge.
When Bogan realized he was on Mexican soil, he tried to turn around. His attorney said surveillance video shows a backup for more than half an hour as he tried to get his 18-wheeler turned around.
Mexico will put you in jail if they fine an expended shell casing in your vehicle.
Something like this which is obviously an error should never be prosecuted. Mexico just loves to brutalize Americans in their power.
They are a nation of jackals, thieves, murderers, and scum.
Hillary?
Hillary?
Helloooooooooooooo Hillary?
Only a Third World -Hole like Mexico would prosecute such a case. And, why hasn’t our US government stepped in? Why are we such wimps to the Third World -Hole to the south of us?
I don’t know if this has anything to do with the story or not but today I was in a State of Oregon office and there was a person coming in for state assistance who needed a Spanish translator.
UGH! What a stupid government we have!
6 years is about right for someone dumb enough to drive a load of ammo into Mexico.
