I have not studied demographics of his district in MO. But my best guess is he is in a more conservative district than otherwise. Now it is a statewide race which includes St Louis and all the other liberal areas in MO. Different ball game.
If I was a voter in MO, I would of course vote for this dummy because I look at the big picture. But Akin is playing the blood sport of politics. He is obviously a lousy candidate. He will be irrelevant after Nov 6th.

I unfortunately will vote for this dipstick, as he is better than Claire. I sincerely hope we can get a 3rd party person running though. I don’t think akin will win. The prevailing view I have heard here is that he think if you get pregnant as a result of rape it wasn’t really rape, because of the magic uterus.
Besides, he has Palin and West wanting him out and Claire wanting him to stay. I gotta stand with Palin and West. Akin really should have gone a long time ago.
Tim Walberg. MI 7th district. (Second time freshman) He defeated uber RINO Joe Schwarz in 06, was thrown overboard by the GOP in 08, and defeated several primary contenders and won the general in 2010.

Akin has a 97.24% lifetime ACU rating. He has never been associated with any scandal. He is a religious upstanding family man with six children including three sons who served in the US Marine Corps. He voted against TARP, the Obama stimulus, etc. as a strict fiscal conservative. He is pro-life.
We will see if the MO voters believe that one verbal gaffe outweighs their personal interests. There will have to be a lot of ticket splitting for McCaskill to win if Romney carries the state.
No matter how you view the candidates, your vote for Palin will be a vote for Obama. Don’t kid yourself.
Actually, CD-2 probably leans slightly GOP, but not anymore than the state as a whole. Akin won the seat in 2000 with 55% of the vote, and has since won in the 60%-ish range, likely due to the power of incumbency. While part of his district is conservative St. Charles and Lincoln counties, and large chunk of it is also the left-leaning and populous St. Louis county (different from the city itself). St. Louis county went for Gore by 5% in 2000, for Kerry by 9% in 2004, and for Obama by 20% in 2008. I think there's a good case to be made that Akin's district is actually a microcosm of the state, except that it is also 91.7% urban, which is obviously not representative of Missouri (but which DOES push the district to the left of where it would be if it had the same demographic that the state as a whole has). The urban portion is largely surburbs of St. Louis like Chesterfield, Kirkwood, and the rest of "west county" and "south county."
There's no doubt - if Akin had the funding that any other Senate candidate got from the party, and if the GOP-Ers would just shut up about his gaffe, he'd go back to threashing McCaskill.

Please do not get the impression I favor McCaskill. No way, no how! I am simply stating the reality on the ground which is that politics is a blood sport, and candidates running for statewide office must refrain from making ANY statements which can then be exploited by the opposition. Akin has flunked that test in spades.
Instead of blaming the GOP-e Todd should look in the mirror why he has lost support.
Personally my hope is he wins because we direly need every seat in senate if Obamacare can be repealed. But wishful thinking is not the cure for election results.

True...but maybe getting the same level of funding that the various GOP organs are handing out to other GOP senatorial candidates, but which they have specifically *said* they are going to withhold from Akin, would be.

You aren't demonstrating lying hypocrisy. It is no secret Scott Brown is a pro-abort Republican. Brown did not say something idiotic that could kill his campaign. In fact, Brown's statements are in tune with probably most people in Mass. Akin DID say something idiotic that not only killed his campaign, but probably damaged Romney in Missouri and Republicans in many districts and states throughout the country. Why are you defending Akin? The man does not even stand by his comments. He concedes he made a mistake. All folks are saying is his comments were bad enough that he probably can't win the Senate seat. The seat is more important than Akin's ego. Akin needs to step aside so McCaskill doesn't get 6 more years. How hard is this to grasp?
2010 was one of the top republican victories in history, and you want to tell us it was a failure, a loss?
Some of the republican nominees you listed were opposed by the by the gop-e, in Miller’s case for example, the Senate gop-e came out in support of the third party candidate.
You are being dishonest when you try to portray history making victories as “losing election[s]”, because of conservatives, it is you liberals who sabotaged republican nominees, while the right wing of the party took us to a victory.
