The White House denied late Tuesday that President Barack Obama had snubbed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu by rejecting his request for a meeting when he comes to the annual United Nations General Assembly in New York in late September. A spokesman confirmed an Israeli news reports that the two leaders would not meet but cited the president's uncertain and hectic election-year schedule. "Contrary to previous press reports, there was never any request for a meeting between the Prime Minister and President in Washington, nor was this request ever denied," U.S. National Security Council spokesman Tommy Vietor told reporters by email. (Obama and Netanyahu later spoke by telephone for an hour "as a part of their ongoing consultations," the White House said. "The two leaders discussed the threat posed by Iran's nuclear program, and our close cooperation on Iran and other security issues. President Obama and Prime Minister Netanyahu reaffirmed that they are united in their determination to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, and agreed to continue their close consultations going forward," it said in a statement). Vietor's comments and the conversation came after Israel's Haaretz newspaper reported that the White House had turned down a request for talks. Haaretz said Netanyahu had asked Obama for a meeting during his stay in the United States and expressed a willingness to come to Washington to do so. Earlier, when asked about that report, Vietor had said that the two leaders would not meet. "The President arrives in New York for the UN on Monday, September 24 and departs on Tuesday, September 25. The Prime Minister doesn't arrive in New York until later in the week," Vietor said. "They're simply not in the city at the same time.

The Haaretz report said the request was "declined" and that this "marks a new low" in relations between Obama and Netanyahu, who has publicly criticized Washington for not taking a harder line on Iran's nuclear program. (Still, Haaretz noted that "Netanyahu will spend only two and a half days on U.S. soil" and the White House "said that at this time Obama's schedule does not allow for a meeting.") Mitt Romney has repeatedly accused Obama of shortchanging the relationship between the U.S. and Israel. But a knowledgeable American official stressed it wasn't personal, saying Obama's schedule was in flux and emphasizing that he doesn't anticipate the president "will have any bilats [bilateral meetings with foreign leaders] at UNGA [the U.N. General Assembly] this year." Still, Obama reportedly planned to appear on David Letterman on Sept. 18, the first day of the annual diplomatic gathering. Republican Sens. John McCain and Lindsey Graham criticized Obama for not sitting down with Netanyahu, describing themselves as "surprised and disappointed." "It is puzzling that the President can't make time to see the head of state of one of America's closest allies in the world," they said in a joint statement. "If these reports are true, the White House's decision sends a troubling signal to our ally Israel about America's commitment at this dangerous and challenging time, especially as Iran continues to work actively toward developing a nuclear weapons capability."
Yeah Obama says he’s best friends with Israel’s govt.
Glad to see the presidential priorities are in order /s
ANOTHER troubling signal? How many times are we to keep hitting the snooze alarm?
And Letterman will probably list the top ten reasons Iran should bomb Israel
Where’s “Schmuckie” Schumer?

(cited the president’s uncertain and hectic election-year schedule. )
Last time I checked, it was his JOB to meet with allied leaders, not to spend all his time fundraising and playing golf. So glad that he clarified where his priorities lie. I think he would have been better off not saying anything.

Why would our muslim president be interested in talking to the Jews?!
Good question.
Barack Obama said the Muslim call to prayer is one of the prettiest sounds on Earth. In an interview with The New York Times, Obama recited, Allah is supreme, Allah is supreme, Allah is supreme, Allah is supreme. I witness that there is no god but Allah.
to shove it 'cause I did not have the time for his BS! Funny! Funny! I...
love it!
Yeah, I'm screwing the Jews...
and they still support me with votes and money!
And you cannot make this stuff up...
'cause it is true--
The world is on the verge of a potential imminent nuclear war and Obama has to either campaign or golf instead of tend to the business of the day - a war made imminent because he’s been piddling around while the Middle East is handed over to Islamists and Iran gets nukes.
Obama is a million times worse than an empty chair. By refusing to meet and/or support Israel our only remaining ally in the Middle East and instead calling Netanyahu a liar - and by standing with the Islamists who killed Americans and allies and flew an Islamist flag at an American embassy - Obama has made it absolutely clear that what he said in January of 2010 to the Egyptian ambassador was one of the only true things he’s ever actually said: that he was and still is a Muslim who supports the Muslim agenda and that once he got done cramming Obamacare down our throats in America, he would focus on accomplishing the Muslim agenda.
The agenda that all sects of Islam agree on is the destruction of Israel and the USA and the institution of worldwide sharia.
Obama is on board with that, just as he was on-board with Soros’ plans to destroy the US economy when Soros met with both Obama and Hillary during the 2008 primary to ask them for their support. Soros believes he is God and that the 2 great evils he has to rid the world of are capitalism and the USA. He fears that the US would win the war on terror, because then both capitalism and the US would be strong. IOW, he has sided with the Islamists in order to destroy the US. The communists and Islamists are united - the 2 groups Obama has always been cozy with - and Obama is the place-holder to make sure that communists and Islamists are appointed and have the unaccountable power to whatever they darn well please toward those ends.
The beast has showed his fangs, and if America is too stupid to pay attention then we deserve the horrors we are about to go through. “Arab Spring” will come to America, and the people here will know what it’s like to live on the wrong side of the concentration camp barbed wire.
I’d like to hear Bibi’s account on this.
Obama's going on Letterman - that the 'hectic' scheduled event.
Try to empathize with Obama's position GR Jr. He's stuck between a rock and a hard place.
On the one hand Obama has a possible third world war starting - a nuclear one at that - and the destruction of the only friend we have in the ME. On the other hand Obama has a commitment to appearing on a comedy show for 15 minutes. It's a hard choice - so close, so close... After much anguish, Obama chose TV with Letterman...
Do we have the right to second guess him?
One of the sweetest things about a Romney/Ryan victory would be a renewal of the historic relationship between the USA and allies like Israel and Great Britain. I can’t wait until the adults are back in charge.
Obie must have seen the photo where Netanyahu is staring at him.
I just don’t get it. I really don’t.
How anyone who is Jewish can support this president is a mind baffling mystery to me.
Please.
Before the DNC, some of his WH schedules didn’t even start the day until 12:05 pm with a WH briefing, then nothing else for the rest of the day. Others just had a ‘lunch meeting’ and then off to campaign somewhere.
He is obviously not fit for the job. Can you imagine another four years of the ‘I just don’t give a sh!t’ attitude?
