Posted on 09/11/2012 7:46:19 PM PDT by kristinn
The White House is disavowing a statement from their own Cairo embassy that apologized for anti-Muslim activity in the United States.
"The statement by Embassy Cairo was not cleared by Washington and does not reflect the views of the United States government," a senior administration official told POLITICO.
The U.S. embassy in Cairo put out a statement early Tuesday that apologized for an anti-Muslim film being circulated by an Israeli-American real estate developer.
"The Embassy of the United States in Cairo condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions," the embassy said in a statement published online.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the film depicts the Muslim prophet Muhammed as a "womanizer, pedophile and fraud" depiction bound to offend many Muslims.
The embassy came under widespread criticism for failing to defend free speech in the face of threats of violence. Egyptian protesters rioted anyway, breaching the embassy walls and tearing down the American flag.
"Some have sought to justify this vicious behavior as a response to inflammatory material posted on the Internet. The United States deplores any intentional effort to denigrate the religious beliefs of others. Our commitment to religious tolerance goes back to the very beginning of our nation. But let me be clear: There is never any justification for violent acts of this kind," Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said in a Tuesday statement.
It had gone unnoticed for seven hours before being posted to FR. Not bragging, just want folks to know that FR still gets results after all these years.
They are going to disavow the press release that only reaffirms things the White House has said before?
That’s why I hang out here so much. If you want to know what the heck is going on in the world, Free Republic is the place to find out. Especially now with the state controlled “media” in their “We Gotta Help Barry Win” mode.
This denial is for hometown consumption.
The mideast muslims know that Obama meant it - that’s what counts.
Thanks for the link because it confirmed the thought I got when reading ‘FR’ in title - that it was YOU!! And thanks for ALL you do for our country through this wonderful site FR!!
I understand one American was killed in this charade. Seems like something more than a retraction is due.
All US Citizens should be removed from those embassies immediately.
Does anyone have the video site portraying Mohammad as having sex with his 9 year old wife? Apparently it was made here by Terry Jones? We are getting no info on Media. I want to see it. At some point (now) we need to stand up and slap the crap out of these haters and I don’t mean maybe!
Amen, brother, and you are the tip of the spear. Thanks!
Is it just me or did Hillary just rephrase regurgitate and repeat what the administration is supposedly disavowing?
There is a thread about it with link
Somebody better archive the apology before it is gone...
Well done Kristinn
Damn right I come here before anything in the morning
Alternate headline for any of the apology reports: Obama bares America’s neck to Islam on 9-11.
Obama bares America’s neck to Islam on 9-11.
BS! You can’t just retract things like this. It’s what they tried to do with the “Government owns us” ad. “We didn’t clear that...” such a load. When will this fraud take some responsibility.
hildebeast approved this message and she did it with obama’s verbal approval. This den of vipers is evil incarnate.
Wouldn't it be nice to have a President on our side for a change?
HERE IS OUR RESPONSE
Apparently a tweet already vanished praising Islam as a wonderful religion.
There is a dead guy in the building, broken windows, people injured and someone tweeted that Islam is a wonderful religion????
U.S. Embassy Condemns Religious Incitement
September 11, 2012
The Embassy of the United States in Cairo condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions. Today, the 11th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States, Americans are honoring our patriots and those who serve our nation as the fitting response to the enemies of democracy. Respect for religious beliefs is a cornerstone of American democracy. We firmly reject the actions by those who abuse the universal right of free speech to hurt the religious beliefs of others
I think the administration just got caught trying to explain away two 9/11 anniversary riots as being caused by something other than a desire to celebrate 9/11. Looking at the reports, the media can’t even make their mind up which movie it is that allegedly caused the mob action, but I don’t see banners and writing complaining about movies- I see the black flag of jihad.
Awesome....A great reminder of the remarkable history at FR. From the 2000 election to 9/11 to the the Dan Rather memo.
One of my most vivid memories was the thread describing the failed Space Shuttle landing, where freepers commented that they could see something was wrong watching the shuttle in the sky over the west coast, minutes before it reentered the atmosphere over Texas. It was incredible to read...not unlike re-reading the 9/11 threads.
This is a remarkable place, filled with many brilliant and knowledgeable people.
Such a good thing I signed up here. Too much of our media today is either liberal, or, too busy pandering to the liberal media. Great work
They are only “Disavowing” the statement because they are afraid of losing Jewish support(Which by the way are at Carter numbers) behind the scenes they are rooting for these Arab thugs. This is what Obama has wanted from the beginning, the Muslim Brotherhood to take over, Sharia law world wide
Anyways.....let’s get back to talking about Romney’s lack of foreign policy experience! LOL.
Excellent work, thank you.
That was in Libya, not Egypt.
Yep and as Allen West just said on Greta a few minutes ago this apology will only entice additional violence. He is so right.
Alrighty, then what exactly are the views of the United States Government then?
Here is the (weird) video:
We were then subjected to endless explanations about how Mr. Serrano must be respected for his artistic contributions, how his right to "free speech" must be considered sacrosanct, how even though his "art" might offend millions of Catholics and other Christians, the outrage they felt could not be considered in any way by the agencies that awarded the prize or supplied the money for the prize, because, after all, Mr. Serrano is an American citizen and enjoys the same First Amendment rights as any other American.
I think the sharp difference in reaction here, by the US Embassy, can be accounted for very simply: Catholics won't kill you if you offend them, but muslims will. Any other explanation is pure cant, which (as I understand it) is a highbrow synonym for "BS."
And I posted the story in Libya based on bbcnews.com report here: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2929584/posts several hours before US media took up the report.
Great job. Getting zero to back down is huge. Obama is the greatest existential threat our nation has ever faced.
Thanks. I copied the image as well.
Which haters are you referring to?
Well... I am sure they are in touch. heh
Meanwhile, Obunga disrespects the PM of Israel and has lots of time to hang out on ghetto radio and letterman.
Anyone who can't see what's wrong with this picture is blind.
Wow, she does look like a gutless moron....no wonder
The response ought to be “you’ve got two minutes to leave our property then we blow it up.”
Then apologize because not all of them were killed.
BUT LET ME BE CLEAR: This psychobabble phrase has been hijacked. It’s kinda like saying, “To be honest”. It tells the listener that normally the speaker is a liar. Fits the bill with the Democrats to a tee!
