Team Romney Must Sharpen Its Message

The November elections are a Republican landslide begging to materialize, but will the GOP make it happen? I believe so. I'm not buying these negative polls, but to increase our chances, let's sharpen the message, not dilute it.

A recent Fox News story reports that Romney and Ryan are both beginning to emphasize a bipartisan message rather than sharpen the contrasts between Obama's manifest failures and their plan for America. They must not follow this suicidal path.

Now is not the time for them to go all John McCain on us and downplay what Obama has done or to apologize for their own winning message. In the campaign's homestretch, they must bring more passion and urgency. It's not enough to calmly assure the American people that they'll do better. They must convince them they believe with every fiber of their beings that the nation, as we know it, would not survive four more years of Obama's assault — that unless Obama is defeated, their children will not enjoy the same America they have enjoyed.

Their message should be: Sure, President Obama inherited a tough economy. But enough already. He knew and stated how bad it was, and he promised that if we implemented his agenda, the economy and debt would vastly improve. He implemented his agenda, yet the economy is still doing terribly, and the debt is dramatically worse. He still refuses to accept responsibility for his failures. He has no new ideas and offers the same failed policies and promises nothing but prolonged malaise if he's re-elected. Under a second Obama term, we'd experience catastrophic financial collapse.

Romney/Ryan rejects the defeatist idea that economic malaise is inevitable. Historically, the worse the recession the stronger the recovery, except with Obama, who has given us the worst recovery in 50 years.

And if he loses the reaction will be the same. Blame the VP choice.

Absolutely. To repeat something posted elsewhere hereabouts, earlier this A.M.:

"In desperation, as the conservative voting base's lack of enthusiasm becomes increasingly and undeniably palpable, throw them a 'sop' in the form of a sacrificial conservative in the VP slot -- Palin last time out, Ryan this year. (This handily serves a double purpose. as it gives the Karl Rove/National Review GOP-e faction somebody to blame, after the fact, for their anointed CINO du jour's inevitable electoral thumping in the general. I honestly don't envy poor Ryan the shabby treatment he'll doubtless be receiving at the hands of supposed friends and political compatriots, just a few short months from now.)"

I guess you just don’t get it. Romney won’t win or lose this election based on what a few conservatives say on the internet about him. He’s going to win or lose on the merits of his campaign. Not a single poster on FR has the power to force Romney to lose this election, if Romney wants to win. It’s his for the taking.

So, come election day, if Romney loses, blame him, not some scapegoat you have dreamed up.

VAN SUSTEREN: Why has Governor Mitt Romney not had a so-called "surge"? We hear "surge" used with basically every Republican nominee, but you don't see that "surge" with Governor Romney.

RUSH: Well, every poll I've seen of Republican primary voters, he can't crack 30 percent. It has been curious. And you look at it from the reverse, 70 percent of Republican voters want somebody else. This is why we have the phenomenon of the "Not-Romney." Bachmann was the "Not-Romney" for a while. Herman Cain was the "Not-Romney." Now Newt is the "Not-Romney." I think it boils down to something that's not complicated at all. Republican primary voters are conservative. They don't believe that Romney is. They believe that he will stick a finger in the air and moisten it and see which way the winds are blowing and try to get in that direction. They remember that Romney said he believes in global warming and he believes that man is causing it. Well, conservatives don't believe that. They believe it's a hoax. Conservatives know that the whole story of man-made global warming is a hoax. And they're not going to get excited by a candidate who is trying to gain favor with non-Republican primary voters by articulating that stuff.

Here's the big problem, Greta, for the Republicans. And I am a lone wolf on this. The rule of thumb in elections, both parties, 40 percent are going to vote Democrat automatically, whatever you do, 40 percent are going to vote Republican, automatic, no matter what you do. And in the middle, who do we have? The precious, God love them, independents and the moderates. And they are the targets. They are the focus of every election. And our brilliant campaign consultants tell our candidates they are the ones that know how to go get a majority of those independents. And we have, as Republicans, put ourselves in prison to this whole silly notion that you only win elections by moving to the center and getting great independents. Fine and dandy, but if you squander your base in the process, you haven't a prayer.

Romney needs to beat him up

Beat him! Beat him with a stick, then take his lunch money and give him a one way ticket back to Kenya! Let him destroy what little they have there. Yeah, that’s the ticket.

Anyway, we have to keep repeating what should be done. Some of my friends say I won’t sign that petition because to have a petition it means you have to physically sign it and add your address, etc. I feel, while maybe they are right, people need to know how we feel on issues. If they want your e-mail address they are going to have to listen to you first - then you just delete their e-mails.

Team Romney must get it through their well-coifed yet thick heads that there is no more bipartisanship. The opposition has changed and these are not the “Hubert Humphrey” Democrats of the past.

It used to be true that Democrats and Republicans held the same vision for America, and differed only in how to get there. But that is no longer the case.

The Social-Democrat party of today poses a dire threat to the Constitution and to our very way of life. They must not succeed in November.
