(Reuters) - General Motors Co sold a record number of Chevrolet Volt sedans in August but that probably isn't a good thing for the automaker's bottom line.
Nearly two years after the introduction of the path-breaking plug-in hybrid, GM is still losing as much as $49,000 on each Volt it builds, according to estimates provided to Reuters by industry analysts and manufacturing experts. GM on Monday issued a statement disputing the estimates.
Cheap Volt lease offers meant to drive more customers to Chevy showrooms this summer may have pushed that loss even higher.

The current price is so shocking it isn’t surprising it fell short of expectations and no one took it ohm.
Serving the phony god’s of AGW is a costly biatch.
My resistance to replying has broken down; you’ll probably catch a lot of static if you don’t amp-up the quality of your comments.
FOR SALE: Used Chevy Volt: Free of Charge.
Sadly, the Volt is my husband’s company car that he has to drive...I don’t even like getting in the darn thing and neither does he!!! (I will let you guess what company it is.)
With a battery of statements like that, you seem a little negative.
In person I am sure you are a live wire and a lot more positive!

You don’t want make a plug for it?
There is one in my neighborhood but I think it is someone from a dealership who drives it home from time to time. I did not pay much attention to the car until I noticed the big black charging cord coming out of the side in front of the drivers door and running into the garage.
Customer reactance just hasn't been good at all. The Volt is not resonating with the public.
You can lease one now for $299 mo. I don’t see how they can make any money on that. Right now, I probably spend close to $200 a month just on gas, and I’m not driving a gas guzzler either.
You are discharged from this thread.
Smart man. That have/had a nasty habit of catching fire while charging or just parked.
My first ZOT ?
Is it HF or FD????
Your pun is revolting. ABC is claiming you can lease a Volt for $5000 for two years. $200 per month for an $89,000 car! Only makes sense using the brilliant math of Three Letter Joe Biden.
Just wait for the health care ‘bargains’.
GM made a pact with the Devil & I'm not going to support it in any way. I imagine many feel the way I do. I wouldn't drive a Volt if it was given to me.
