Mitt Romneys presidential campaign announced early Monday that it raised $111.6 million during the month of August, its single best month of the campaign and the third straight month it has raked in more than $100 million.
President Obamas campaign has not announced its August fundraising totals yet, but he has been significantly outraised by Romney over the last two months.

He has to take a message to the people and he cannot rely on the MSM to be fair.
Well complimenting Bill Clinton at the DNC and yapping about how good parts of Obamacare is certainly doesn’t help does it?
Speaking of the media, FOX continually plays long sound bites of BO’s convention and campaign speeches while playing very short clips of Romney’s response. It’s making me mad.
Gosh, I wonder how some of the FReeper Lemmings will spin this into a castrophic negative?
Sorry folks but some of the posts on here this weekend, 8 weeks out, are simply BS. “The chair” gets a FEW points bump in some subjective polls and it’s all over for some of you. You are the democrats and MSM’s best ally. They print out a tainted poll or story and you swallow it. Hook, line and sinker.
Wake up, be vigilant and dont get suckered by the left.
Have you seen ALL THE POLLS, though? Romney is weak.
With all due respect, we all heard about how bogus the polls were in 2008 as well, and look what happened.
What did the polls show in 2010?
Negative advertising works.
now Romney gets very little....
wake up people....donate....activate...vote....
chase away tolls to...
What good is all this money if he continue to run such lame-ass ads that refuse to attack Obama?
Yes - McCain lost when the polls showed him winning at this point. They were bogus.
Well, the WSJ average has Obama with a 1.8 lead. That’s within the margin of error, so....
I know Romney has problems in Ohio, but things are still relatively even in the other key states. Remember, even means the incumbent loses. We also have this HUGE war chest. Romney is effective with ads. That’s how he destroyed Gingrich. The blitz is just starting, and we should see some movement in Romney’s direction going into the debates. I hope the R campaign will put major bucks into Ohio to even that up. Obama has been wiping the floor with us on the airwaves, but that will change now.
I don’t see Romney going after Obama like he did against Gingrich.
Since I'm from California, I will, of course, put out the lawn sign, etc. But my real contribution will have to be $$$ for races Romney/Ryan can win.
I think he will. Romney has always started slow in campaigns and then he relky picks up the rhetoric and intensity towards the end. He can now spend his money and he will starting now.
His campaign will be vastly more aggressive than McCain’s, IMO.
This is why I like Romney. While others panic, he puts in the work on the fundamentals. Solid fundraising is such an important key to victory, especially for us as we do not have the celebutarts and media spokesholes like the Rats.
Have you studied Romney’s M.O. during the primaries? He would carpet bomb the leading opponent 7-10 days before election day. Have you forgotten that Americans have a short memory span? Why waste money 2 moths before election??? Romney did not make $250 million by being inept.
In Virginia, a number of PACs like AFP are going after Barry on everything from energy to health care to jobs.
Here is how I see it, and I’m probably way off.
First, we demonstrate Romney is a sane rational human being.
Then, we demonstrate Obama is a crazy liberal.
Then, normal rational people start breaking for Romney.
Then, Obama moves right to try and get them back.
Then, Romney moves further right.
Then, Obama moves right. He will do or say something to piss them off, dividing or demoralizing a portion of them.
You can argue night and day if Romney is a conservative or a liberal. Fact is, he and Paul Ryan are running as small “c” conservatives to get the conservatives on board and to show a deep contrast between two diametricly opposed political ways of thought.
We, the conservative base, need to go head to head with the union base of the Democrat party. Either the conservatives get off their collective tuckas and get out the vote in battleground states, or the unions will crush us.
Forget this election and all the ones of the 21st century! Go back to 1980 to see a real mirror image of this election! I ain't worried. Not a'tall.
Uh, have you heard of early voting? Have you heard about how people increasingly make up their mind earlier? Also, if he is that smart, why did he implode vs. Kennedy and fail miserably against McCain in 2008?
Early voting is an issue in this case.
Best news I felt all day about the campaign.
Could not agree with you more. The trolls and shills for Obama are out in force on FR. It is so obvious. Romney is brutalizing Obama and these polls are total BS. How far down was Reagan against Carter.
They may not be BS, but are single digits within the margin of error coming out of the conventin - hardly insurmountable and hardly permanent...it is ridiculous the level of hysteria over them...49-44 with a huge week of media fawning that is going to fade away in a week or so? It is crazy. 64% - 34% - yes, that would be cause for panic, not 49-44 due to a bounce that will be gone.
They are still around 8 weeks left for the election, many debates around.
The Job market is not going to get better, gas prices still high.
I am confident Romney will not go the same way as McCain in 08.
Yeah I have heard of early voting in SOME states. Most early voters are conservatives this year because they just can’t wait to vote against the radical socialist from Chicago.
It was a few weeks after Palin joined the ticket and then the implosion on Wall Street occurred, I believe on Sept. 18.
McCain suspended campaigning and rushed back to Washington to "help" manage the crisis. Obama then had the best line of the whole campaign, when he said he would not suspend campaigning since a president should be able to do more than one thing at a time. After that McCain lost the lead in the polls and never regained them.
To say the polls were bogus is a complete lie. McCain was behind from mid September to election day, so I would say the polls were quite accurate.
The Mormon church is pretty rich and I don’t think they would let that money stay idle while they have a chance to get one of their own into the White House. Just wait until you see the money raised when the Church of Scientology runs a candidate!
Obama raised 114 million in August. So I’d call that a stand still.
They key is who can spend their money more effectively.
I still believe that McCain would have won the election had he opposed TARP rather than suspend his campaign so help push it through.
But then again, a McCain who opposed TARP wouldn’t be McCain.
A comatose candidate could be more aggressive than McCain.
I saw Romney’s new ad he is running in 8 states. Not that good. I know with the money he has they can do better. They need to hit 0bama hard. Not just ask if you better off than 4 years ago. It’s not a good question to ask becuase Bush and the Democratic congress had us in a mess four years ago, it might help 0bama make his “blame Bush” case.
Many are the sleeper accounts of libs that were activated for that purpose.
To try to get everyone to think just that.
B. Hussein and his PACS has announced via Twitter that he raised $114 million. Looks like we’ve been outraised by about $3mil.
Better to have all this bad news come out at once I guess.
We weren’t outraged by much, but he got a lot of new donors this month.
Romney’s camp did say they were going to slow down fundraising and do more retail politicking
“Obama raised 114 million in August. So Id call that a stand still.”
Source? I’ve only read that the 0bamam camp has not released their August fundraising totals.
Without Palin, I think it would have been a blowout. His most infamous line in the campaign was that we had nothing to fear about Obama getting elected. That, I believe, was only 2 or 3 weeks before the election. The Obama campaign should have paid him a consultant's fee after that line.
I hope Romney makes a sharp distinction between the two. The ads released this weekend are really very disappointing. I think you can sharply criticize Obama (smash mouth in other words) without stepping over the line to where the ad appears cheap and cheesy.
I hope Romney has better ads in the queue.
you don’t know if these polls are BS. You probably said the same thing 4 years ago and McCain did lose and the polls were correct.
Well, he was stronger than his primary opponents, wasn't he?
...”Romney is flush with cash, as winners tend to be, and is running against an Empty Chair”...
I wonder what kind of value Obama is gaining from having wall to wall campaigning from the Major News Media? I would think you wouldn’t need much money with that kind of advantage.

“Empty Chair”
I see no reason for insults; they’re uncalled for.
Everybody knows all chairs have done no damage to the economy, nor disrespected the flag and all probably know what factory they were made in and can be traced to their origins with some sort of documentation.
Obama, OTOH ...
...”Are you aware Reagan was more behind Carter at this time in 1980 polls?”...
I well remember that on the very day Reagan won big, the news media was saying he would lose based on the polling.
Having said that, this is a different time with probably lots more voter fraud which we just saw an example of at the Democrat convention when the vote to put God back in the platform was clearly not passed. They railroaded right over that opposition and everyone saw it on TV. There you go. The cheating is now open and “in your face.”
Amen to that!
The 2008 polls didn’t look like these. There are a lot of polls and it takes a careful mind to sort out the reliable from the unreliable. What’s crystal clear is Obama is not running away with it; the race is very winnable for Romney/Ryan. Stop being a downer Debbie and help them win.
