I thought the last day was “eight weeks prior to the election” (9/11). (or the Friday before the above). I’m happy to see that he has more time to see if he can overcome this.

Six weeks. Unless a candidate dies, then it's 4 weeks. That's why Carnahan stayed on the ballot in 2000.

I take it you KNOW for a fact that he knows otherwise.

Whether he does or he doesn't, it is still a lie. And he is responsible for it. And now do you want a piece of it???

I know how you feel but McCrakel has and will still be exposed as a fraud and tied directly to Obama and his evil regime. This country is fed up with the socialist backers and will crush all who stand between freedom and socialism come Nov. 6th. We still have more than two months before the election. Missouri is not going to cast their votes for and allow McCrakel another 6 years. Akin will ride in on the tide. Keep the faith.

Oh really. How Democratic Party of you. It matters to those interested in the facts.

Those concerned about the distinctions you cite conservatively constitute about 30% of the electorate (at best). I said it doesn't matter POLITICALLY. That is reality.

They may understand that from other people's words who are lying about what he said and from your words that show you don't care about what he said, but they won't understand that from his words.

Now you are a liar, again. I do care about what he said, particularly because it was both so damaging and unnecessary. All he had to say was, "I do not believe in making a baby pay the ultimate price for the crimes of another," and leave it at that. For anyone familiar with the politics of abortion to fall into a trap like that was so incredibly dumb that I believe him unfit for high office. At this point however, he is unfortunately our only possible choice and he should be supported if only to throw it in the RINOs faces.

You really do know how to effluence people.

Karl Rove has nothing to do with Akin.

You don’t seem to understand that, even if Akin can win this seat, he has made the job harder for conservative politicians in blue states, because they are now having to take the time to answer their constituents about what Akin has said.

I’ve seen seats lost over even smaller things than this.

Try and spread blame all you want, Aiken said what he said.

And the people in Missouri forgave him his misstatement and to most of the others it was a nothing.

Priebus and Rove's responses betray something deeper than a commment like this. Rove hasn't liked Akin since his Bush days when Akin said no to Rove's big government expansions.

I smell a landslide victory for Romney and that always allows state nominees to win on the Presidential coat tails. Missouri is a red state and my prediction is that Akin will beat McCakel when Romney wins big here because of his coat tails. I, for one, have and still will vote straight Republican ticket. I expect from the anti-Obama swell here as well as general distrust of all dems, there will be a lot of others doing the same thing.

Cutting off our noses to spite our face, is one of the reasons we ended up with nobama.

Sing it loud and clear.....there are way too many here that are doing that exact thing.

115.363 (3) If the person nominated as the party candidate shall withdraw at or before 5:00 p.m. on whatever day may be fixed by law as the final date for withdrawing as a candidate for the office

115.359 2. Except as provided for in section 115.247, if there is no additional cost for the printing or reprinting of ballots, or if the candidate agrees to pay any printing or reprinting costs, a candidate who has filed or is nominated for an office may, at any time after the time limits set forth in subsection 1 of this section but no later than 5:00 p.m. on the sixth Tuesday before the election, withdraw as a candidate pursuant to a court order, which, except for good cause shown by the election authority in opposition thereto, shall be freely given upon application by the candidate to the circuit court in the county of such candidate’s residence. No withdrawal pursuant to this subsection shall be effective until such candidate files a copy of the court’s order in the office of the official who accepted such candidate’s declaration of candidacy.

You appear to be correct. There is a section that seems to indicate that he would have to withdraw both before and after 5:00 on the same day, but not both. I hate legalese.

Akin. Rove’s comment only applied to Akin’s supporters. Akin’s comment put the whole Republican candidates in an unnecessary position.

The big unknown is can Mr. Akin start running an intelligent, effective campaign.

Without the funds that would be very difficult.

Well then join the party because there are a lot of people running for office who have to try to explain Romney and four years ago McCain and before that Bush. It comes with the territory. Tell them to prepare for the question -- the same thing you are attacking Akin for not doing.

I’ve seen seats lost over even smaller things than this.

Then they didn't deserve to win.

No problem. If Akin gives us a super majority in the Senate why would you be worried about what the other conservative Repubs have to say to justify Akin? The game is over. We won. Akin will be a non issue. The goal of taking the Senate is the ultimate goal besides the Presidency. Take one step at a time. Taking back this country is priority one.

I can’t speak about Rove’s intentions, only my own.

I am personally pissed when a conservative politician allows himself to be baited, so he’s thrown off message and puts his seat, as well as others in jeopardy. It’s not as though he’s a greenhorn. He’s a veteran politician who knows the media are not his friends and that they are actively looking for opportunity for stupid comments.

I know this issue shouldn’t have done that and voters should be bigger than that, but voters aren’t. Voters will vote against politicians over the smallest issues.

Akin’s comment put the whole Republican candidates in an unnecessary position.

Akin said "I" not "We".

He spoke for himself even though his position does mirror closely to the platform of the RNC.

it boils down to pure old fashioned vanity.

Vanity is a sort of disease that makes them unable to adjust the rigid paralyses of the mind

Death is preferable to mindset alteration

If that's the case, Obama has already lost by a super, super historical landslide. Game over. No need to campaign anymore. :-)

Like it or not, comments like what Akin said do get played across the country and voters do react to what other politicians say across the country. This is political reality. I know for a fact that some Democrat politicians used Akin’s words against their political opponents in other electoral districts.

Wonderful if Akin wins his seat, but what if he costs a couple of close seats, and ultimately Senate majority?

Liar. There, now that I've called you a liar, you want to back up your claim?

Akin is toast and if he's out of money, and I can only hope he is, we are FORTUNATE because he might actually do the right thing and step aside for an articulate, commonsense, pro-life conservative who can win.
