Berlin declares circumcision legal, but only if performed by a doctor — not as a ritual

One of Germany’s 16 states has declared circumcision legal, but only if performed by doctors — not, as required by Jewish law, by mohels. Berlin, Germany’s capital and itself a state, is the first to declare the practice legal following a Cologne court ruling in June that non-medical circumcisions on children amounted to a criminal offense, according to DPA, a German news wire. National legislation is pending to legalize circumcision. State Justice Minister Thomas Heilmann made the announcement Wednesday, saying he felt it necessary to allay fears in this “difficult transitional period,” the Associated Press reported.

How about body piercings and tattoo? Do these people have to be medically certified too?

Transition to what? Complete atheism?

Calm down and read the article.

National legislation is pending to legalize circumcision.

In Germany, a court ruled that circumcision was child abuse under the very broad provisions of existing law. The law was originally intended to prevent children from being subjected to medically unnecessary operations (like plastic surgery) but is now being used as a weapon against circumcision.

The German parliament acknowledges that this court ruling means that the law needs to be changed in order to preserve religious freedom, and so they are readying a vote for a revision to the law.

Transition between the period in which this bizarre court ruling is the law of the land and the upcoming parliamentary vote on a law which guarantees the legality of religious circumcision.

Actually, this really surprises me. Germany has been EXTREMELY anxious to live down Hitler and the Holocaust. I would expect them to be the last country in Europe to follow this path. Normally they bend over backward not to seem antisemitic—although they go along with the anti-semitic foreign policy of the other Euro countries. But usually from the back seat.

I’m also a bit curious what the Muzzies make of all this. Do they care who circumcizes their babies? I suppose a Muslim doctor could do it, but I don’t really know what their rules are.

Circumcision of minor children is obligatory in Islam as well as in Judaism. They oppose this court ruling as well.

This was a court ruling brought on by a local prosecutor. A Muslim boy had severe bleeding following a ritual circumcision and the doctor who performed it was prosecuted in the Cologne court system.

The court ruled that a crime had been committed because the rite was a non-medically necessary surgery performed on a minor who was incapable of giving informed consent.

This has been received in Germany as an unwarranted encroachment on religious freedom and the German parliament is going to vote on a law to protect religious circumcision.

Concern over the anti-Semitic implications of this ruling are one of the main drivers for the proposed legislation.

I talked to some German women on another forum.

Part of the German populace really is gearing up for a war...with Islam.

While they have some Turks, Germany never did let as many of the Muslim hoard in as the rest of Europe, perhaps by design.

If the EU can not be held together (a given in my view) resulting in power ceding to Germany's financial might then as things collapse the rest of Europe will be fighting a bigger internal mess with their unassimilated and antagonistic Mohammedans.

What’s with the Germans?

I guess they are done apologizing for Hitler and have moved on to just being themselves.

I think their biggest problem is the Moslims and they are trying to discourage them.
