I don’t live in NYC so I’m not sure if you can buy a machete at a store within the city limits. They’ve got all sorts of weird laws there.

okay, stuff like this makes me wonder, what is the law? are there limits to how many weapons you can own if there are all legal? or after a number do they say oops, you hit the limit, no more guns for you? Now it may be that these are not licensed or whatever, but things like shotguns or knives or ammo, can they really limit what you can own?
Machetes are good tools. I learned to use one when I was building roads through the bush in the Virgins. I always have one well sharpened but 32? Does he have a high capacity magazine for his machete semi automatic?
I have one of those and was surprised it is actually decent.
Not good for heavy work or felling a redwood but if you need something in a city or for day hiking, I’d carry it.

I used mine to take the husk off a coconut today. First time I’d used it for anything and it was fairly effective. Think I prefer the Cold Steel high carbon machete though.

Cheaper than dirt has this but a better one with a hand guard. If you have to use one you want a hand guard to protect fingers so you can keep gripping.
I probably have around 15-20 machetes. At one time I actually used most of them. Of course I lived in the woods in Florida.
I learned many years ago that a good machete beats a hatchet or even an axe (I also have a bunch of axes) for smaller tree limbs and of course brush.
IMO the best of all machetes are the Ontario U.S. military surplus ones. Some of the cheap South American ones, especially Collins brand are also excellent. I have a couple of Cold Steel ones including the Khukri. They are also very good but I still prefer the Ontario.
The only really bad one I have is a Chinese one which must have been simply stamped out of mild steel.
The Ontario ones do have one fault. That plastic handle gets slippery when your hands get sweaty. For that reason I wrap all of the handles with athletic tape.

Major difference between the cheaper than dirt ones and this. CTD are ok for casual use.
Cold steel makes these with some top notch steel. Its truly a weapon you can trust your life with.
Don't know if the laws have changed, but in the days of Fort Apache, the 41 in the Bronx, it was not unknown for Met Food type mini super marts to hire security guys who strapped machetes around their waists. Jimmy Breslin featured one such guy in a couple of his columns back in the day. I have a 1944 GI issue from my uncle I used to be obvious cutting down weeds in front of my house in Woodhaven Queens with it if I noticed some of the local punks hanging around. Just a hint not to come back at night.
Sounds like his neighbors were just trying anything to stop this guy. Someone heard shots in the air so that’s good enough for the guy to lose his 2nd, 4th and 5th amendment rights.
Oh yeah, they don’t really have those rights in NYC.
Yeah I’d agree for brush cutting the Ontario is very good. Much cheaper as well then the Khurkri SK5 ones from cold steel.
