The United States has “never had a president who behaved as much like a teenager as Barack Obama” by building up debt and spending the money of future generations, Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich told Newsmax.TV in an interview at the Republican National Convention.
America, Gingrich said, will wind up paying more interest on the debt than it will for defense.
“You know, we’ve never had a president who behaved as much like a teenager as Barack Obama," said Gingrich the exclusive interview. “He’s running around with a credit card, spending our money, our children’s money and our grandchildren’s money building up a huge debt and if interest rates go up a bit at some point, we’ll end up paying more interest on the federal debt than we paid for national defense. People need to realize how a big a threat this is to our longer economic future.” …

That would make a great image for a Romney campaign ad, if Romney’s campaign has the guts. I don’t doubt Romney’s guts, it’s his campaign advisors that I doubt.
Look, I certainly share you enthusiasm for taking Obama to task on spending, but where was Gingrich when Bush increased our national debt by 92% during his term in office?
Okay, so we target Obama on spending, and he turns around and reminds us our team did the very same thing.
How productive will that be?
Our own Leftist leaning idiots, undercut our ability to advocate for sound policy. That’s very destructive. It means nobody has clean enough hands to push for sound policy.
While you make a valid point, my response is:
So if running a $400 billion deficit was wrong, and Mr. 0bama said it was while he was Senator 0bama, how was quadrupling it a good idea? How can you support a guy who comes up with that brilliant solution to the problem he saw?
Truth is if the Republicans refused to raised the debt ceiling, Obama could not run up the debt.
How dare he say something so insulting to Mommy’s Little Man!
Well I can’t personally answer that. If I wouldn’t support a guy who was driving the debt up 92% under his term, I sure don’t have any idea how you’d support Obozo.
Pay real close attention to the Ryan plan though, with specific interest to how long he expects it to take to get back to a balanced budget, and start paying down the national debt.
If that doesn’t make you knees knock, I don’t know what will.
If I understood him correctly, it doesn’t happen under any possibly Romney term(s) in office. And he may not see it happening much before the end of a follow-on administration.
Can you imagine what the national debt will be by then? And what if the Romney administration is followed up by a Democrat administration? There goes any idea of a balanced budget ever.
We’re in a mell of a hess here.
There is no doubt we are in a hell of a mess. We didn’t get into it overnight and we are not getting out of it that way either.
I’m 52 and teach the high school Sunday School class at church; we talk about a lot of things there. One day we were talking about what my parents’ generation said about my generation as we were growing up: “You’re ruining our country.” And I told today’s kids they were right. We did. We don’t produce, we expect “stuff” to be given to us. And we raised our kids to do the same. That’s what got us into this budget mess.
This election really is the last chance to start to turn things around. If Romney/Ryan win, there is a way forward. The explosive growth of government can and must be curbed, and the “free ride” can and must be stopped. The creative forces of private enterpreneurship must be released. Over the long term, maybe 20 years, we can grow our way out of the hole.
On the other hand, if 0bama wins, the game is OVER. We are done. I am not exaggerating. He has set us on the path of “fundamentally transforming” our country into a third world kleptocracy. It is not too late to change the course now. But by 2016, with the Constitution a dead letter, a Congress that mostly resembles Ceasar’s Senate, a massive government debt, the moochers outnumbering the producers by a wide margin, and 0bamacare firmly entrenched in our national fabric, it will be too late. The game will be over. There will be no turning back.
We haven’t had a president turn this nation around, since Ronald Reagan. So the idea Mitt Romney (of all people) is going to turn things around, is rather laughable to me.
I want you to think about this.
The Obama administration didn’t turn things around. It only doubled down on where we were already headed.
Did you get that?
Our presidential players have still been implementing the Leftist’s goals for them. Bush came up with more great-society programs. He tried to legalize illegal immigrants. He increased our national debt by 92%. On and on it goes.
Romney isn’t going to turn things around. He’s a place holder. He will make big noise, and maintain the status quo until the next Leftist comes along and starts off right where Obama left off.
The economy may improve, but that only means we can go down the Leftist dirt path from there in a more healthy economic condition.
No massive entitlement programs will be eliminated. They will shuffle the deck chairs, and we’ll be right where we are now.
Think public education. Every five years we hear how bad it is. Then the very people who screwed things up five years earlier will devise a new fix-it program, that will have to be fixed in another five years.
We need to sit up and realize how badly we are being snowed here. I think you’re well on the way to realizing it. I still think we are kidding ourselves here.

He can’t do that unless he runs his own ads, which will only reinforce the image of him as a petulent teenager. Images are powerful.

Obama will not turn around and remind us that our team did the very same thing. He doesn’t want to have that conversation. They are already doing anything and everything to avoid it. This isn’t a clean hands competition, it’s an election.
As to where Gingrich was when Bush was running up spending, he was on the couch with Nancy Pelosi.

An ad that portrays Obama as an out of control teenager with a credit card would do exactly what an opponent wants to do - make of him an object of ridicule, not to be take seriously. Dems do it to Republicans all the time, because it works.
It’s about time the tables are turned.
I think that’s a good idea.
I think there are a number of great commercials along those same lines as it relates to a young boy about nine years old also.
