TAMPA Its an understatement to say Republicans are worried about losing the Senate race in Missouri. Amid the Todd Akin controversy, theyre terrified by the prospect of losing a state they previously thought they could win and thus falling a single seat short of winning control of the Senate.
Now, many of them view Mike Huckabee as the key player in the Akin situation. The former Arkansas governor and presidential candidate has supported Akin all along and has prominently refused to join in the Republican chorus which includes virtually every office holder, former office holder, political operatives and big-name radio hosts calling for Akin to get out of the race. If Huckabee told Akin its time to leave, many Republicans believe, then Akin would go.
Huckabee says he has no such powers. Contrary to popular assumption, the two men arent really talking, Huckabee says. The last conversation they had was last Tuesday, on Huckabees radio show, and the only other time theyve talked during the controversy was also on radio. Ive had two conversations with him, both of which were on the air, Huckabee says. The two men havent had a private conversation about the issue.
But what about his influence? Everybody thinks Im like the Phantom of the Opera here, Huckabee says, holding out his hands as if to play the organ. No, I just dont like to see guys who are on my side of things get the daylights whacked out of them by other people who are on my side.

So THIS is what it’s all about? The Huckster’s chance to play King Maker? Weren’t his fifteen minutes on Chick-Fil-A Day enough??
Hickabee is a Dick!
He needs to stick to pulling his Bass!
He’s always against doing what’s right!
This is huckaloon’s shot at payback for losing the primary among his other childish issues. He and akin want to be in the history books no matter what the cost.
No. Even without MO the GOP is going to pick up 4-8 Senate seats.
All this daily nonsense does is help maintain and spread the Democrats current propaganda attack line on the GOP
Pathetic how desperate supposed “conservative” columnists are to keep beating this dead horse for the Democrat propaganda mac

Keep dreaming Huckabee.
So then Huckabee is lying when he says:
"Huckabee says he has no such powers. Contrary to popular assumption, the two men arent really talking, Huckabee says. We see the reaction to this minor gaffe as a nuclear bomb to swat a fly and dropped with unseemly haste by a cabal that never liked Akin to start with because he was "too conservative".
Sure, Akin gave them the opening -- and they jumped into it with a relish that has us on the ground here ready to tell the party to kiss off. When they abandoned Todd Akin, they abandoned the people of Missouri and I, for one, do not appreciate it.
Who is Mike Huckabee ?
Actually, Akin is not conservative enough in my book ~ odds are that he, like The Huck, is a fan of public roads ~ and there are fast approaching technological alternatives that make public ownership unnecessary.
That being said, I still think Akin is an egotistical ass for not making a graceful exit.
On Saturday, Doug posted the following Politico article concerning a conference call between Todd Akin backer, Mike Huckabee, hundreds of Southern Baptist pastors, and Christian talk show hosts:
Mike Huckabee rallied hundreds of Southern Baptists on a conference call Friday night in support of Todd Akin, offering advice about how they can help the embattled Missouri Senate candidate stay in the race while acknowledging Akin still may have to bow out.
This could be a Mt. Carmel moment, said the former Arkansas governor, referring to the holy battle between Elijah and the prophets of Baal in the book of Kings. You know, you bring your gods. Well bring ours. Well see whose God answers the prayers and brings fire from heaven. Thats kind of where Im praying: that there will be fire from heaven, and well see it clearly, and everyone else will to.

Seems HuckeberryHound is playing word games.
Huckabee?!?! Hahahaha........
LLS
Or could both be true.
What you are talking about is not conservatism but libertarianism. I am strongly libertarian myself but I have set all that asside in our common battle against progressivism in all it's forms. Are public vs. private roads really that important right now?
Todd Akin is much more conservative that I am. So be it.
Over who?
Be that as it may, the bottom line is this. Even if he were to pull out, there is no, certain guarantee that the replacement would win, especially at this stage of the game.
So, you all can do one of three things. Either back Akin and help him possibly win. Or, don't back Akin and surely lose. Make him drop out and lose anyway.
I sometimes wonder about the penchant that the posters have for giving up and quiting the fight.
What is his influence? My reaction is to gag.
