Jo Ann Emerson Floated as Akin Replacement
NRO ^ | Katrina Trinko | Katrina Trinko

Posted on 08/22/2012 10:44:10 AM PDT by Da Bilge Troll

Another Missouri Republican consultant suggests that Representative Jo Ann Emerson, the Republican who has represented Missouri’s eighth district since 1996, could be a top contender to replace Todd Akin if he quits. Her name has been making the rounds among party insiders, thanks in part to the fact that she’s currently the longest-serving House member in Missouri. Missouri GOP executive director Lloyd Smith used to be her chief-of-staff.

UPDATE: A colleague points out that Emerson is a member of the moderate-leaning Republican Main Street partnership, and generally less rightward than the three — Akin, Sarah Steelman, and John Brunner — who ran in the primary. Emerson’s American Conservative Union ranking for 2011 was 56, and for 2010 88; Akin’s ratings, in contrast, were 91.67 and 100 in those years respectively.

Sure, run up the flag for a RINO woman, MO Establishment.

Why not try to all the next highest vote getter, John Brunner, take the slot, if it becomes open?

I can answer my own question, why not, he's NOT a RINO!!!

MO eGOP only RINOs need the job!

Talk about committing electoral suicide. You think you can get the prolife and conservative vote to turn out for her.

Akin isn’t dropping out, and if he did it would be a mistake for the MO GOP to nominate anyone but another conservative in his place. Anyone who opposes Obamacare would be an improvement over McCaskill though and would further our goal towards repealing it!

"They" are not "willing to toss him aside for a RINO," that was whom they hoped for all along.

My opinion, not that it matters, is that of the three top vote getters, Steelman is the weakest conservative, Palin's endorsement not withstanding (and don't flame me please, I LOVE and support Sarah Palin and would work for her if she decided to run for President or much else!)

As long as the replacement opposes Obamacare, they are better than McCaskill.

” - - - The voters deserve better than a bunch of GOPelites ‘selecting’ a candidate.”

But, but, that is the way that we were “given” Romney - - - .

I posted this yesterday but the second highest vote getter and leading for most of the race was John Brunner! He's the one to take the spot.......if it becomes available.

Yes, Brunner has NO elected experience (why the RINOs don't want him) but he's very articulate and conservative, even if not perfect but he's not the one Palin endorsed so many freepers don't want him.

Steelman and Brunner would have no standing to sue. MO law gives the GOP Nominating Comm. the authority to name whomever they wish.

Are you saying that Akin is hanging on because he’s trying to negotiate his most conservative possible replacement?

“If the Missouri Republican Central Committee picks a replacement, this liberal RINO is a very big possibility.”
*************************************************************
If Akin withdraws and the MRCC picks a RINO/”Moderate” to run instead of either Sarah Steelman or John Brunner, the base will be COMPLETELY DEMORALIZED and p*ssed off in a major way. What an incredible stupid move that would be. Haven’t we seen enough of such idiotcy already?

If they instead pick Sarah Steelman as the replacement, I’d be “all in”.

Good take on this!

What Akin said is peanuts compared to the gigantic mistake those who want to twart the Primary to push “their” 3rd place darling.

Looks like Akin has a damn near perfect conservative score. Replacing with a RINO must be coming from DU.

In 2 1/2 months the MO. voters will be, like the rest of the country, looking at the shipwrecked economy, not a silly little fauxpas, that not everyone thinks is incorrect. What was said does not compare to or diminish his willingness to stand his ground.

Folks need to put the petty dem inspired in-fighting to bed and get back to acting like conservatives with a backbone.

I’m fine with Brunner, Ann Wagner or Sarah Steelman.

Since Akin won the primary, he doesn’t have to step down.

Any attempt to run a write-in in Missouri will simply split the party. Missouri is a huge population compared to Alaska where a write-in candidate worked.

A write-in would probably just throw the election to McCaskill.

“A write-in would probably just throw the election to McCaskill.”

Not sure if you’re paying attention but that’s exactly what Akin already did with his comments. They’ve got nothing to lose now and need to keep the pressure up on him to GTFO. Its problematic when the Democrat in the race is the Republican candidate’s biggest fan.

If Akin quits it'll be Kit Bond.

So, the logic is “Since you’re throwing the election to McCaskill, we’re going to make sure it gets thrown to McCaskill”.

Is that right?

If they just shut up and say the guy chose his words poorly, they could run a campaign with Akin.

Akin won the primary but thinks babies carried by rape victims need a chance at life.

Romney won the primary but thinks gay boy scouts are ok. He gets to stay.

I say we get rid of Romney for his stupidity and keep the pro-life guy.

Whose job is it to keep Akin's mouth shut? And the McCaskill campaign hasn't even started what will be a non-stop attack on every "poorly chosen words" Akin has ever uttered.

The storm will blow ever folks are not acknowledging the truth...it hasn't even started.

John Brunner is an "American's for Prosperity" candidate.

They and the Chambers of Commerce supported his candidacy as best for economic freedom from Obama and high-tax liberals!
