In crisis, Greece rounds up immigrants

NEA VYSSA, Greece (AP) -- Border police jeeps hurtle along hot, dusty tracks past potato fields on their way to the river that marks the Greek-Turkish border. Sirens blaring, the convoys have been repelling wave after wave of migrants.

...

In Athens, the operation is being bolstered by mass roundups of suspected illegal immigrants. They are seen lined up on the streets of the capital every day, many in handcuffs, waiting to be put in detention until they can be deported. In the first week of the crackdown in early August, police said they apprehended nearly 7,000 people for identification checks; nearly 1,700 were slated for deportation.

How bad are things in Turkey when they are still trying to swarm across the border to a bankrupt Greece teetering on the brink of collapse?

Greece may officially be on the edge of collapse, but so far the welfare payments are continuing. That is what is attracting immigrants, and that is why the Greeks are finding themselves needing to expel all the immigrants they can lay hands on, in order to stay afloat for a little while longer.

Right now, it's all a game of "what can we do RIGHT NOW that will hold off collapse for a few months, weeks, days?"

Afghans currently make up the highest number of people crossing illegally, followed by Pakistanis, Bangladeshis, and … Syria, according to the agency.

The police operation has faced strong criticism … focusing on alleged racial profiling…

I suppose they should be stopping elderly white ladies, clearly they are the most likely to be illegal. It’s insane how there people scream profiling when the suspects clearly fit a profile. Just makes my head hurt.

Now if I read the article right they have about 2500 people guarding 130 mile border. With two shifts that’s about 10 people per mile. They could practically hold hands with those numbers LOL

Words fail me ...

Sounds like Amnesty International just got some cash from Islamic countries who have just realized what a disaster it will be for them if their emigrants are forced to return to their high-unemployment homelands. (Turkey's official unemployment rate is 10%, the rest are worse).

You need at least 4 shifts for 24/7 coverage (5 per mile). That's still pretty good.

Where are most of their immigrants from?

Muslims. From the Mediterranean. Sending them to their "homeland" is just desserts for where other muslims want to send Israelis.

The article says:
Afghans currently make up the highest number of people crossing illegally, followed by Pakistanis, Bangladeshis, and an increasing number of people from war-ravaged Syria, according to the agency.
Makes you wonder why they don’t stay in Muslim Turkey.

I suspect that trying to get welfare in Turkey, or trying to compete for low-end jobs against Turks, gets you sent out of Turkey real fast.

Look for Italy, Spain, and some other EU countries to follow suit over the next few months, as they each try to hold off collapse for a little while.

So they can add Greece to the Caliphate.

I'd like to see your evidence their "unproductive immigrants" are "mostly Muslim."

I find it interesting AP will use the term illegal immigrants with regards to Greece but the accurate phrase is often considered controversial, offensive and even racist here.

Interesting. For information on how it was done in the USA during the 1950’s, Google “Operation Wetback”. Most of you younger folks may be be quite surprised.

we should do the same, they are here illegally, they broke the law and showed no respect plus they drain the economy with free education, health care etc.

But your government has no interest in doing this, regardless if tens of millions of Americans are under employed or unemployed.

Ironic

Gemany took in Turks for low cost labor, and now they are in the same mess.

France, the Algerians

US of A, Mexicans for the most part.

You don’t really see this in Japan, Korea, Thialand and so on. Why is that? Just no reporting?

“Very good. At least one country is starting to resist the Third World invasion.”

If the Third World were to invade Greece, it would not be noticeable.

Greece borders Turkey and Albania. The immigrants they are trying hardest to deport are predominantly from Islamic countries not noted for exporting large numbers of computer scientists and engineers. What they get from Islamic countries are unskilled/semi-skilled workers who work low-pay jobs when available, and sit on the dole when work is unavailable. Or commit crimes. "According to Greek police sources, foreigners were responsible for about 65% of crimes committed in the country in 2010- an increase of about 50% from the previous year. (It should be noted that foreigners account for around 10% of the country’s population)".

It's not confined to greece. In Sweden, for example, Islamic immigrants are wearing out their welcome.

Having not been to Greece I don’t know. However, the Greeks did successfully resist a Third World invasion circa 490 BC.
We need more countries expelling the illegals!

I’mfed up of hearing that illegals pay taxes too. hey do not, I got to know quite a few ilegals while I was up north and not one of them ever paid any tax, they got paid cash but boy did they use the health care and education system for their kids.

What they 'might' do is file taxes - and most get money back that they never paid in (the EIC). Even worse.
