Akin Tells Hannity That Romney Exploited Rape Statement Controversy For Political Gain
Mediate ^ | Tuesday August 21, 2012

Appearing on Sean Hannity’s radio program for the second time in as many days, Missouri Republican Senate candidate Todd Akin attacked the GOP’s presidential candidate, Mitt Romney, for joining a chorus of Republicans asking him to withdraw from the race. Akin said that Romney had blown the controversy out of proportion and implied that he had done so for his own political gain.

Hannity asked Akin, given the number of prominent Republican politicians asking Akin to drop out including Romney, if he is even pausing to consider leaving the Senate race in Missouri.

“Let me ask you this,” Akin began. “If you were in Romney’s position, don’t you think that he may have bid this thing up and made a bigger deal about it than he needed to?”

“Why couldn’t he run his race and I run mine,” asked Akin. “If things really look like they’re getting in trouble in Missouri than maybe — but he has just assumed.”

Not exactly sure what Benefit Romney gets from the idea that a party should pull a candidate's plug after the primary election has seemingly given him the nomination?

I'm laughing at you guys harder than Sarah Palin in fact.

Looking back on what happened in 2006 you sure don't want the top end folks loading up on homosexuals and pedophiles.

The peeps would toss every Republican out.

So, no disparagement of female only problems, and no gays. Otherwise we are simply toast.

That's probably going to be a tough assignment to stick to for that crowd of advisors from Boston but they'd better learn something from the Akin event and not imagine it cannot happen to them. Nicole Wallace got off easy but I seriously doubt there's much sympathy left for those folks out in the rank and file anymore.

I’m with Akins on this one. Romney’s a liar and favors the buggery of boy scouts.

But, what’s more infuriating is these spineless rinos throwing a real conservative who earned his shot the hard way under the bus instead of standing up and saying ‘we don’t agree with Akin’s mis-statement

Are you series? This ass-clown needs to go. There's absolutely no defending, nor recovering from such a ridiculousy STUPID thing to say.

It was hard to listen to that interview...all PhonyCon Hannity was doing was whining about Akin “dropping out”...there was no discussion or question.

It is too bad the Pro-Aborts and PhonyCons decided to go after a pro-life candidate. It shows that the GOP is just as liberal as the DNC.

The real reason for all this anti-Akin nonsense is that the GOP, and the PhonyCons in talk radio, are really Pro-Abortion. These same PhonyCons would be running out Reagan in 1980 for saying “Trees cause more pollution than factories”

Makes me want to send a dollar to McCaskill. What a numbskull this guy Akin is.

Your dollar might end up going to Akin. It's to the democrats' advantage to keep him dancing a little longer, before cutting the off the money spigot. :-)

“WRT the issue of abortion and rape in the political arena, no politician should field and answer questions on the fly like that. “

You are so right.

Why else would the Dems spend $2 million of their money for ads supporting him? Any Republican who voted for this guy got duped; he is the Dems preferred opponent. They put their money where it did the most good.

“The guy is a bonafide freaking idiot.”

Yup, this has nothing to do with partisan politics, or ideology. What it does have to do with is sheer stupidity! This guy is a moron!

Akin needs to drop out! He should have done the right thing and dropped out today but he is in denial, saying he misspoke.

He miss-thought! What a boneheaded thing to say, let alone think. How do ovaries distinguish friendly from unwanted impregnation? What a moron.

The rats will paint every pro-life Republican with this stupid statement.

family values is not talking about legitimate rape or about a magic spermicide.

My point was family values does not mean throwing one of your friends or family over the side of the boat because they make a comment in error and apologize the next day. That's not the way real Americans from the heartland treat each other. It's not the way Jesus taught us to treat each other.

What anti-conservative policies are we afraid that Todd Akin might vote for if he wins the election? A lot less than Romney, that’s for sure.

Like Mark Levin said, he’d vote for a cucumber over McCaskill. So since Akin’s in, it’s time to push him over the finish line and take back the Senate. With 10 weeks to go to defeat Obama there isn’t time to try and reconfigure our slate of candidates. There certainly is no time to do that after the convention next week.

You don't think they're going to ask the Pubbies about rape now whether or not Akin stays in or out? How is Akin dropping out going to stop them from making this an issue? They already created Sandra Fluke to make contraception an issue. And I've seen precious little pushback of late against the forced inclusion of contraception in health care plans when it's a gross offense should be a plank of the Republican campaign. It's time for to go on offense as our best defense because the offensive from the other side is coming no matter what you do.

I’m not understanding how the party negates the voters in Missouri who nominated Akin. Shouldn’t it be the voters asking him to step down?

Yes, it’s probably a mix of anti-Christian bias in the GOP combined with sheer cowardice. It’s just unbelievable how easy it is to get past this if the GOP just said, we reject his statements, we accept his apology and retraction, and we are going to move on now to the real enemies of the country, Obama and the Dummycrats.

Instead the GOP is prolonging a mess and creating this rift within the party that the media will feed off of. The media LOVES seeing the Republican party fight with each other. For the idiots at the RNC and Romney HQ to have set themselves up perfectly for continued slaughter by the media with only 10 weeks to go in the campaign is inexcusable. They’ve created an incredible drama within the party by sowing disunity that is perfect fodder for the media to use as a distraction. It’s time to roll that back in a hurry and say they accept Akin’s apology and are moving on.

This is party politics ~ the STATE COMMITTEE should get busy with a deal ~ and quick!

The 'Voters' might mean anything ~ which it did ~ and as far as we can tell this guy was the Democrat darling 'cause they thought he'd be easiest to beat.

“...but he is in denial, saying he misspoke.”

Akin is not the only one in denial. There’s a vocal minority here on FR (JediJones, Uncle Chip, etc) who seem to believe that Akin (a) spoke the truth and (b) the GOP establishment was behind all of this.

In their minds, Akin did nothing wrong, said nothing wrong, etc. It’s all someone else’s fault.

Thanks for your comment. After reading yours and other posts, I realized that Akin represents his constituency - which is the whole point. Sorry if I jumped to other conclusions. I’ve only been here two years - a noob but not a rat, thank you.
