Breaking- If Akin Remains In, NRSC Will Spend Nothing on MO Senate Race
The Corner at NRO ^ | August 20, 2012 | Katrina Trinko

Posted on 08/20/2012 11:37:35 AM PDT by SE Mom

An NRSC source just confirmed to me what various outlets have been reporting: if Todd Akin remains the senate candidate, NRSC will invest no financial resources into the Missouri senate race. Previously, NRSC had planned to spend $5 million.

And Crossroads has already taken some TV ads off the air, reports Politico.

If Akin does remain in the race, he’s going to be relying, it appears, virtually exclusively on whatever his campaign raises, without any financial help from outside groups.

He’s clearly got to go.

No.
If Akin is running a competitive race- and if he stays in I expect he will- the RSC will spend as much as they can to help him.

I’m surprised people take this RSC statement at face value.

What a mess is right. What was he doing so completely off message anyway?

In all fairness to Akin, he wasn't off message. They were apparently discussing exceptions to a ban on abortion and the interviewer asked him if Akin supported an exception for rape. Akin obviously wanted to make the point that the tragedy of rape shouldn't be compounded by taking an innocent life but his mouth kind of got in the way while his brain was in standby mode.

It’s already mucked up. Whatever Akin decides, Claire wins. Game set match. We now have to hope one of their Senators that was expected to win is defeated.

I agree, and Cornyn needs to be replaced by Texans. We don’t need his kind representing the state.

Claire won’t win if Akin drops out, and mabe not even if he says in. MO hates Claire except for the Democrat baset. She is corrupt and Missourians with functioning brains know it!

The voters in Missouri obviously disagree with you. One radio interview and you all there is to know about Akin? Do you think Mittens and Ryan are really going to advance conservative ideals and get the country back on track financially? Do you understand how absurd the Ryan “Plan” is? Mittens is a conservative? There isn’t anything conservative in his record. If someone should withdraw from a campaign, it is Mittens.

By the way, I’ve listened to Hannity, and I think he often sounds like an unprincipled idiot. He’s all for the Constitution unless something lawless is “popular”, Social Security and Medicare, for example.

To put it bluntly, it’s time we learn from 2010’s few losses.

People like this DO NOT LEARN FROM THEIR MISTAKES.

He will repeat gaffes in the future, possibly EVEN WORSE. It’s time to Freep the heck out of anybody who can make him change his mind.

I don’t like Romney either but he won because there were too many candidates splitting the conservative vote and none of them were what I would call ideal candidates either. I also don’t like the whole double standard and what is happening to Akin. But he said what he said and it is not defensible. We don’t need to be discussing what is and isn’t a ‘legitimate’ rape for crying out loud. That is a loser debate for any party and the dems plan is to ride this ridiculous statement all the way to a nov. win.

Our focus should be on securing a large majority in the senate and congress and now this dude has put that in jeopardy. My focus is not on Romney here....it is on the bigger picture. If we have ruling majorities in the senate and the house it will not matter really who wins the presidency! We are protected no matter what from run away progressive/ statist destruction.

Absolutely. And with Akin on the ticket, he loses and Mitt loses. He must go and hopefully someone like Talent or Steelman will step in and still defeat Claire and keep the state for Mitt.

Would not be surprised if Steelman steps up to the plate.

I dont know Akin personally, he might be a very nice man who made a stupid mistake, but this is a VERY important election year, this is a make it or break it for America. We NEED to regain control of the Senate, so for me its not about Akin right now, its about regaining the Senate, and if Akin has no chance of winning now we have to get someone who can. The media is enjoying every minute of this, because now they have a quote they can use for their “War On Women” BS, this is why this has to end

I second your very thought out posting. My big concern is to be able to show the differences.

“Republicans are such wussies. With a capital W.”

Todd Akin makes an absolutely indefensible statement and somehow the NRSC (for all of its faults) needs to keep funding this guy? That makes them wussies? Hardly.

What Akin said isn’t your typical stupid gaffe that we’re used to hearing from Joe Biden. This was a 100% All-American Prime f***-up.

The NRSC has no other choice but to cut him off. His comments are so idiotic that they could spill over and affect other races.

Frankly I would not choose either Brunner (unvetted, this would be his first rodeo) or Steelman (disliked by the establishment AND some conservatives say she’s a RINO). And since there is no requirement to go with either of them why be limited? Voters rejected them both.

There is a rumor they want to slate John Ashcroft, former holder of this seat. I think this seat is cursed by the wretched ghost of Mel Carnahan. Neither his widow or the current witch should have ever come anywhere near it.

I’d stick in Rep Sam Graves or the current GOP State Auditor Tom Schweich.

Or if they want to go the female route, Jo Ann Emerson is RINOish but how about former State House Speaker and US Attorney Catherine Hanaway?

Todd Akin is a strong supporter of the right to bear arms; he voted for the Ryan Budget; he has a 96% approval rating by the American Conservative Union; he is pro life and voted against state tax money funding abortions and he voted against the l993 tax increase and education spending increase. LOOK at Claire and her plane? her tax controversy? her vote for Obamacare. Akin made a gaffe and corrected it..he was selected by the voters of MO to run for Senate. To hell with Scott Brown and the other rinos. Google Akins RECORD VS MCCASKILLS...the man is a good conservative and I am ashamed at the gop for jumping ship. Reminds me of how Bush treated Scooter Libby..he abandoned him.

“none of them were what I would call ideal candidates either”

If we leave out Huntsman and Pawlenty, every one of the “less than ideal” candidates would have been better than Mittens. But even on FR there were hysterical, uniformed, poorly reasoned attacks on better candidates because individual posters wanted someone else. That is exactly what happenede, with the encouragement of the MSM, in the country at large. And conservatives went for the bait offered by the MSM.

What Akin said was entirely defensible. It is only a “loser” issue if it is debated on the libtards terms. Romney, of course, has always supported the libtard social agenda when in political office. He has already said that he wants to leave undisturbed having sodomites serving openly in the military. It wouldn’t surprise me if he finds a way to give the genius conservatives who savaged better candidates some rhetoric on abortion while maintaining the substance of his pro-abort views.

Moreover, the issue is quite inconsequential. The electorate doesn’t care about what some candidate in Missuori said. If Romney loses, it will be because Romney and Ryan run a bad campaign.

They are running a weak campaign so far, and it is only the increasingly obvious incompetence of Obamalini that keeps Mittens in the game.

Ditto. The rush to dump Akin is embarassing. He inarticually tried to defend not aborting babies created by rape or incest and gets trashed.

Greetings katiedidit1:

Right on. Funny how quickly the GOPe will throw a TEA Party supported candidate under the bus.

So Akin made a mistake. How about the first GOP member who never said nor wrote anything stupid be the first to cast the no vote against Akin. He was elected by the MOSEN GOP voters.

This entire episode sticks of the way Axelrod, the willing media-whores and Illinois GOPe RINOs pressuring Jeri Ryan’s husband to withdraw from the Illinois US Senate primary. Hussein had a cake walk to US Senate against Allen Keyes. Whoever replaces Akin will be ignored by media-whores.

From the way I see it, Jeri Ryan’s husband could have just told media-whores: “So what? We were married. We drank too much. If your wife was this hot, wouldn’t you? Next question please.” Instead the Illinois GOPe RINOs, one today is 0bama’s Transportation Secretary, told Ryan to get out of the race.

I sent a donation to Akin after Dear Leader and his media-whores made this an issue. Hope everyone else will too.

Cheers,
OLA
