The implication absolutely is not there because he never said it was impossible for it to occur. If you’re going to judge people as lying just because they claim a rare, but not impossible event happened, that’s your mistake. No reasonable person would assume someone is lying just because they say a rare but possible event happened to them. Mass shootings are rare but if someone calls it into 911, 911 isn’t going to assume they’re lying.
That’s a nice crystal ball you have. I doubted Akin would drop, but just read he will on Tuesday.
They are rare, but not because the body protects itself. Saying that the total number is a small number is a good argument to make against those who suggest that you are forcing millions of rape victims to carry babies to term.
Interpreting is what happens to politicians. He had one shot at fixing the mis-interpretation of his lousy wording, and he failed. It matters little what he meant, because we aren’t trying to convict the guy in court, we are discussing whether he can be politically viable in Missouri after his comments.
I think he could have been. Heck, maybe he still can be. But he botched the interview, and worse he botched the initial “correction”.
It was a major blunder to attempt to explain WHY pregnancy would be rare — pregnancy is a pretty rare occurance from a single sex act to begin with. It was worse to make it SOUND like women who got pregnant weren’t really raped, since in “legitimate rape” the body has ways to prevent pregnancy, apparently.
It doesn’t matter if in other parts of the interview, he gave better reasons for his position. As a politician, he will die by a sound bite. If you said “we should reduce the deficit, because it is crushing our economy, it is robbing our children’s future, and it is killing unicorns”, it won’t matter a bit that two of your three statements are perfectly factual. The headline will be that you are a crazy person who thinks unicorns exist and are being killed by the deficit.
First I’ve heard that Akin will drop out. Got a source, or link, for that?
Several threads on FR say it. Then latest on Drudge is he won’t. Someone needs to break out the Stage Hook.
I could care which in MO totes the GOP Senate nom, but this distraction we do not need.
Makes you wonder what’s with these guys disengaging brain as they engage mouth.
Doesn’t sound like Steelman will be next in line, anyway.
Awwww.
