Here Are 3 Notable People You Won’t Hear From at the GOP Convention
The Blaze ^ | August 17, 2012 | Beckel Adams

Posted on 08/17/2012 12:07:20 PM PDT by Mozilla

Several major conservative leaders, including former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, have been invited to speak at the 2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla.

That’s not a bad lineup.

However, as of this writing, three notable figures are still missing from the list of announced speakers. And we’re not talking about right-leaning celebrities or conservative politicians who have recently found themselves in the spotlight; we’re talking about three public figures who, at one time or another, have played a major role in rallying the conservative base.

But before we get ahead of ourselves, let’s get this out of the way: National conventions are little more than an excuse to unite the base and fire up voters. Sure, a few people might show up and dispute their party’s candidate, but, as it has been for quite some time, both parties usually have their nominations tied up long before the conventions roll around.

Therefore, one of the only reasons these rallies still exist is to stoke voter enthusiasm.

That being said, here are three public figures the GOP — if it’s really interested in firing up and uniting the base — should perhaps give a second look:

Newt “Shoot the Moon” Gingrich

Michele “Queen Bee” Bachmann

Sarah “Mamma Grizzly” Palin

The best thing SP has been able to say about Romney is that he isn't Obama (I for one agree)

That's the only thing anyone can say about Romney -- including Romney himself!

As to why Gingrich, Bachmann and Palin weren't invited to speak . . . long memories, maybe? I seem to recall reading that Reagan spoke at the '76 GOP convention and wowed them so much that there was much shaking of heads among the delegates and asking, "Why didn't we nominate him?"

Good point. Romney pales in comparison to any of those three.

There is another...

Mark Levin is turning into quite the fire breathing Constitution evangelist. He gives great speeches almost every night. And he doesn't care whose feelings he hurts. Put him in a room full of conservative activistists and they're likely to burn the entire Republican leadership in effigy.

Levin's scatter-shooting would leave a lot of punctured self important egos.

They invited Huckabee? What losers.

How about Jan Brewer? Is she speaking, or is Nikki Haley their only token female?

What genius decided to let Chris Christi give the keynote speech? They should have given it to Rand Paul or Allen West.

Let’s see... Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin are key states in play - and each has key speakers scheduled. I’d add a few more, but that’s always going to be the case. It looks like a good plan to this Fiscal and Social Conservative.

I’ll take Christie for the keynote this year. He’s a GOP governor in a Democrat-run state that swept into power, took no guff and cleaned up a corrupt and bloated “budget” process. Since that’s exactly what we need in Washington right now, who would be better to set that table than the governors of New Jersey and Wisconsin?

So, who'll be speaking at the Constitution Party convention? Sarah? Newt? Michelle?

The constant sniping by the midgets in the CP only make you look smaller.

I never watch conventions. None of what they show on TV is what matters. Lots of really interesting stuff happens at conventions (especially designing the party platform) but it’s never on TV, the best you can do is hope somebody writes a tell all book.

It came and it went already in April. Virgil Goode was nominated. He is a far better choice than Romney in a lot of areas.

The GOP Convention is missing some really good people who could fire up the base and should have been the nominee.

+1 We don’t do tv anyway, but I’m not even going to see about C SPAN. Except for Scott Walker, there’s no one speaking that I’m interested in hearing (& that’s my diplomatic way of putting it).

I’m happy enough about Paul Ryan, but it will only be feminine restraint that keeps me from spitting as I cast my vote. Ugh. I am DIS-gusted.

Right after the election, I think it’s time to form a third party.

I would disagree .. I would say it's time to go out and drag more Tea Party people into their local Republican Executive Committees. We need to continue to build - it's not somthing that happens over night.

Who might those Freepers be? The Gay lobby? The Romney Botts?

When the RNC calls, begging for a donation, I will explain how they get nothing from me because they didn’t include conservatives at the Convention. It is just another reason why I will never contribute to the national committee.
