I’ve heard it said more than a few times that in matters of child support, etc, courts don’t care about DNA test results. It seems as if they arbitrarily name a particular guy to be a child’s father and then demand that he pay child support. When presented with scientific evidence proving the guy *isn’t* the father, the judge often says something like “*I* will determine who the father is,not some laboratory”.

I'm aware that can be the case in some states where a husband is presumed to be the father in spite of DNA evidence to the contrary. Also, if you've started paying or have a "relationship" with the child even under false pretense (i.e. mother lied), some courts say you can be on the hook even if you can scientifically prove who the biological father is.
I don't know if that "anti-science" outcome still occurs. It shouldn't but men don't have equal rights and protections in matters of family and reproduction.

You know, back in the 19th century they had these things called "Press Gangs"...

In some states if your married to the mother when she delivers the baby its yours. DNA does not matter.
