Russian female punk band Pussy Riot found guilty of hooliganism over Putin protest at church site

(CBS/AP) MOSCOW - A Russian judge found three members of the provocative punk band Pussy Riot guilty of hooliganism on Friday, in one of the most closely watched cases in recent Russian history.
The judge said the three band members committed hooliganism driven by religious hatred and offending religious believers.
The three were arrested in March after a guerrilla performance in Moscow's main cathedral in February calling for the Virgin Mary to protect Russia against Vladimir Putin, who was elected to a new term as Russia's president a few days later.
They face a maximum seven years in prison. The sentence is to be handed down later Friday.

Right now there are hundreds of Russians in prison for various offenses that would not be considered crimes anywhere in the West - mostly for attending peaceful open-air protests in public thoroughfares.
But the Western media and Western activists ignore them and instead publicize and advocate on behalf of these women, who desecrated a church.
Most Americans do not realize that the altar of an Orthodox church is an extremely sacred space. It is protected by an iconostasis, it is used solely for the Divine Liturgy and only ordained clergy are permitted to approach it, which they rarely do more than once each Sunday.
These nonordained women broke through the iconostasis, commandeered the altar and used it for a vulgar parody of the Divine Liturgy.
They deserve to do time for trespassing, for disturbing the peace and for violating other citizens' freedom of religion.
