Patrick Kennedy: Rep. Jackson in 'deep' depression

CHICAGO (AP) — U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. is in a "deep" depression and has "a lot of work" ahead of him on the road to recovery, former Rhode Island U.S. Rep. Patrick Kennedy said Thursday after visiting the hospitalized Chicago Democrat.

Jackson has been on a secretive medical leave since June 10, when family members said he collapsed at their home in Washington. He is currently being treated for bipolar disorder at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. But neither his office nor family members have said much about his medical condition.

The visit from Kennedy — who has suffered with bipolar disorder and been treated at Mayo — gave one of the first outside glimpses of Jackson's health.

"I don't think people understand the depth of his depression. It's deep. He has a lot of work to continue to do to be able to learn how to treat this illness in the most effective way possible," Kennedy told The Associated Press. "Depression is a serious thing, and I'm glad that he's taking it seriously."

Kennedy also suggested Jackson had an initial reluctance to receive help for his illness.

The congressman's wife, Chicago Alderman Sandi Jackson, issued a statement through spokesman Kevin Lampe about Kennedy's visit: "My husband is grateful for his friendship. He and Jesse have a long history in Congress together."

something is not right here.... This guy has been away for over 3 months. Is he running for reelection? If he is in such serious medical condition how is he going to campaign with the election only 90 days away? I agree with one of the other posters, he must know something is going down....

The “bipolar” excuse for bro Jackson is like Jennifer Aniston and her Hollywood sistas referring to their nose jobs surgeries as “deviated septums”.

And why do they get hospitalized for “exhaustion” when the rest of the population has to just figure out a way to catch up on their sleep when they are tired?

"Anybody got a better answer?"

Why yes.....I do.

He's the son of a lifelong, race-baiting pimp who rose to prominence claiming he cradled the head of a dying MLK after he was shot (of course, that was total bullshit....along with everything else in Jackson, Sr.'s sorry life). He feels he is "privileged", donchaknow....whitey and his fellow Afro-Americans OWE him, you see? Power, money, babes, fame, fortune.....all should just FALLLLLLLLLL into his lap with ease. It is his BIRTHRIGHT.

Well, Negro just woke up to the fact that he's nothing but a dumb-ass Negro (UNLIKE hard working black Americans who ask for nothing, work hard, and seek the American dream for themselves and their families like all of us). No, homie DESERVES it, but won't get it. Whitey Rahm, Obama's gay sex toy from the bathhouse....so many others passing him by.

It's enough to turn any Afro-Prince into a simpering, pants-peeing shell of a human being.....as it obviously has him.

I wouldn't piss on 'im if he was on fire.

I guess the passage of ObamaCare and all this “hope and change” has really got junior down. Barry is giving DemocRATS a bad name.

How does his Republican challenger look in the fall election. Hopefully we can pick up a seat. Jackson is unfit to run and should withdrawl from the election. He waited too long to let a democrat challenger file for the primary. I hope we can get the seat.

That being the case, Jesse Jackson, Junior needs to do the honorable thing and commit sepuku [ritual suicide]. But JJJ has no honor and that is out of the question.

I guess Patches would be able to make a judgement.

Several years ago a family member of mine was killed by a falling tree while parked in a car. How come that never happens to people like this?

More like Jackson is in deep doo-doo. What a faker.

Isn't this just a ruse to avoid an ethics investigation into his attempted purchase of Obama's vacated senate seat?

Your post is very compassionate. And, I hope God hears your prayer if, indeed, Jackson needs prayer for a malady beyond his control.

But, IF Jackson is being being deceitful in an attempt to avoid wrath he may have coming to him, I would remind you and everyone else that God is no WIMP. He doesn’t appreciate liars, cheats or thieves. He may not deal with Jackson in THIS earth age, but He doesn’t expect Christians to roll over and take abuse from their enemies.

family members said he collapsed at their home in Washington

I never heard of depression causing anyone to "collapse."

Definition of “Deep Depression”.....

A completely rational fear you will be charged with a felony the moment you stop having “Deep Depression.”
