HARRISBURG, Pa. A tough new voter identification law championed by Republicans can take effect in Pennsylvania for Novembers presidential election, a judge ruled Wednesday, despite a torrent of criticism that it will suppress votes among President Barack Obamas supporters and make it harder for the elderly, disabled, poor and young adults to vote.
Commonwealth Court Judge Robert Simpson said he would not grant an injunction that would have halted the law, which requires each voter to show a valid photo ID. Opponents are expected to file an appeal within a day or two to the state Supreme Court as the Nov. 6 election looms.

Judge refuses to halt Pennsylvanias tough new GOP-backed voter identification law
No bias there!
If you want on/off the PA Ping List, please freepmail me. Thanks!
Don’t forget “despite a torrent of criticism”....as though that’s a part of our legal system.
Have you ever noticed, you have to have a photo ID have a job? If this law eliminates anyone from voting, it's a small subclass of folks who are unemployable.
Funny how that works.
I’m glad the law is upheld, but I wonder how effective it really will be in Philadelphia with the Dems political machine entrenched there.
You need a photo id to get into an Obama event, you need a photo id to attend the DNC convention, you need a photo id to tour the White House ... why do the DemocRATs deny these things to blacks and Hispanics?
That's true ... Florida has a voter photo id law. Yesterday my photo id was very well scrutinized; in 2010 I almost had to force it upon the poll-worker. It will take trained poll-watchers to keep the id system honest.
They will attempt to not enforce the law so Republicans will have to post observers to record and report. Wonder what the penalties are?
Don’t worry, it won’t be long until THIS decision is overturned.
I read that totally biased article earlier. No mention that 74% support voter identification laws.
I guess SAT testing to get into college is racist and a Jim Crow rule?
This is what is going to happen now. There will be a “torrent” of people BROUGHT to the polls without ID on election day.
And why is this a supposed burden on the “young”? Because they’re too lazy to go to the DMV?
MY son recently turned 18, and he was registered for the SS and to vote, had an ID, and opened a bank account within a week or two, without a single suggestion from me.
I find it curious that to get welfare and disability you have to show ID, but to vote, suddenly it is discriminatory because the welfare people or disabled may not have ID.
I wish everyone would look this up for this state and start responding to these voter id objections as being stupid: YOU NEED AN ID TO REGISTER TO VOTE, at least, in Texas. Its IMPOSSIBLE for someone to not be able to show an ID to vote if they are registered, since they’ve ALREADY shown one to register.
This business of talking about where an ID is needed is all well and good, but the real response, as shown here, shows the absolute STUPIDITY of arguing this will suppress ANY voter turnout.
So, please, look up your state’s statute on voter registration requirements and post it here.
Some Federal judge will stick their nose in and issue an injunction less than 72 hours before voting begins. This will cause maximum chaos, and will not allow our side time to appeal. That’s how Alinsky would have played it.
That's where the New Black Pampers come in. While the Rats are stuffing ballots the Pampers will crack that skull of any cracka that dares enter the polling place.
And I’ve also noticed that it’s always ‘rat/0bama voters that have trouble getting photo ID...
It’s not like the DMV has some sort of political test or something.
Yeah, it’s a lot of fun to point out the sheer idiocy of their excuses,
but it’s a lot better just to state the truth:
“DEMOCRATS oppose voter ID because it makes it harder for DEMOCRATS TO CHEAT, and voter fraud is EXCLUSIVELY A DEMOCRAT TACTIC.”
