CHICAGO — U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., a Chicago Democrat who took a hushed medical leave two months ago, is being treated for bipolar disorder, the Mayo Clinic announced Monday.

The Rochester, Minn.-based clinic specified his condition as Bipolar II, which is defined as periodic episodes of depression and hypomania. Hypomania is a less serious form of mania.

"Congressman Jackson is responding well to the treatment and regaining his strength," the clinic said in a statement...

It's good he's getting treatment. I know someone with bp2, it's a difficult disease.

Will he keep his seat or will the Democrats ease him out?

Early reports that he tried to kill himself are probably true. BP2 is more depression then Mania, and there are more suicides/attempts in the Bipolar 2 group. A lot of people think it’s a lesser form of Bipolar, but it’s really a different form— much more depression with less mania.

It wasn’t all that long ago when such conditions were “treated” by lobotomy, which was the favored Kennedy approach.

Jesse, Sr.’s first question was, “So does this mean he’ll start voting Republican?”

I have bpII and have been to Hell and back because of it. I hope he’s getting the treatment he needs. It’s also probably better that he resign his position, better for those he represents that he step out of the way and better for him too.

Obviously the Jackson's approved this message, otherwise the Mayo Clinic is in a world of hurt.

Sort of like this:

No one from the Media had the guts to ask "Doctor, how does this illness affect one's decision-making ability? Are you concerned that someone with this disorder is in a leadership position?"

If Jackson was a white conservative they'd already be clamoring for his resignation - for the good of the nation, of course.

He’ll be replaced with some one more up to the task of overseeing the rackets. So obvious that Junior thinks Obama supplanted him as Black Prince of Chicago and stole his rightful career. It drove him over the edge. Hope they are keeping him away from sharp objects.

"Congressman Jackson is responding well to the treatment and regaining his strength," the clinic said in a statement...

"We expect him to soon be able to get back with his white girlfriend and arrange for some more special deals with other soon-to-be-incarcerated governors. He told us he was anxious to get back out there and trying to live up to his dad's great examples."

I don’t wish bipolar/depression or any mental illness like that on anyone, but c’mon, this guy was and would’ve been a jackass regardless.

Damn, I called this a while ago after reading the reports on his “problem” and noting that, in my experience, that they were medspeak codewords for Bipolar Schizophrenia.

I also note that there is no mention - at this time - of schizophrenia so it may well also be a factor, otherwise they certainly would have publicly ruled it out, as it is a serious complication of Bipolar disorder.

Ease him out?? Are you really thinking that through?

This should certainly be enough to elect him for life in the Democrat political world, ala Ted Kennedy...

Is he perhaps establishing a medical condition as defense of possible corruption charges that are being investigated?

There have been a few threads on this, but let me jump on this one to say I wish him and his family well in such a difficult situation.

I lost a sister-in-law to bipolar disorder and it was very dreadful.

I’m glad Mr. Jackson is getting help, I hope he gets good help, better than what my s-i-l got. Sure, it was partly on her, but remember she was mentally ill.

This is one of the biggest failures of liberalism, how they have left the mentally ill to “fend for themselves” as Obama might say. But hey, in the case of the mentally ill, he supports that.

Oh well, that’s because he suffers from the biggest mental disorder of all - Liberalism.

I know Cong. Jackson is a big Lib too, but I still hope he gets well.

When it comes to Jesse Jackson Jr bipolar disorder is defined as trying to buy a Senate seat to represent the South or North Poles

It worked for that moron wife of Bill Lockyer out in California. Now that she's out of "rehab" she gets treated like she's a cancer survivor instead of a high official who had a total moral breakdown in public.

Yo bud, I am neither an Nedandtral nor a troll. I speak facts.

What problem do you have with me saying that 90% of Negroes vote for Obama. That is a fact.

Negroes have a serious cultural problem. That cultural problem starts with Jackaon and brothers of his ilk. His culture of dependency on producers is robbing my children's future. They do not pay taxes on the whole like the rest of Americans. We pay their way.

Please take a look at crime statistics. Listen to rap and hip-hop, cop killer music. Look at the amount of money that we dump into city schools and they still fail. Look at all of the cities that have a Negro mayor and are going bankrupt.

It is a cultural problem, not a race problem. I wish we could clone Allen West to replace every RINO in congress. There is a culture of dependency that exists for 90% plus of Negroes.

Note, I don't use the term African-American because they are not African, and as soon they use a hyphen to describe themselves they are not fully American. Given that 90% plus of them voted for Obama we could call them, more accurately, socialist Americans.

So drop the damn political correctness and grow a pair.

Good reply. Try making an argument instead of calling me names. Prove how anyone one of my points are false, I will listen. You just sound like a typical Democrat, which includes every Republican in MA. You might change my mind. In the mean time, since you call me names, take your liberal MA ass and meet some people from rest off our country. You might learn something about the real world and people who produce in America.

I'm stuck on what my grandpa taught me. He was a wise man and not a racist. Scientifically, the correct term should be negroid. That is the name of the race. Kind of funny how white folks have answer every government form as ‘Caucasian’. Just saying.
