Palin will not speak at Republican convention
WASHINGTON | Sun Aug 12, 2012 7:36pm EDT

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin will not speak at the Republican nominating convention in Tampa later this month, she said in statement on Sunday.

"This year is a good opportunity for other voices to speak at the convention and I'm excited to hear them," Palin, who was Senator John McCain's running mate in the 2008 election, said in a statement on Gretawire, the blog of Fox News's Greta Van Susteren.

True. It’s just weird in a way to now be breaking such a longstanding habit of watching the convention, which goes back so many decades with me. But I used to watch them as they would reinforce a certain kinship with those who I felt shared my values/beliefs and staunchly opposed the bulwark of encroaching socialism and the cultural, social and economic decay it was bringing. But with figures like Romney in the forefront and Rove in the background, coupled with the kicking of Palin and the Tea Party to the curb, it’s just more than apparent I no longer have anything in common with what the GOP now stands for. No kinship, no nothing.

— afraid she’ll outshine them, probably.

Exactly, and it's a very bad idea letting McCain speak.

My hotair (headlines) comment on this:
You are kidding me. She is the best speaker we got, and she would bring a huge audience. If they won’t let her speak, I think there will be hell to pay.
Mitt seems intent on dissing the base. I thought Ryan spelled the end of that chapter of Mitt’s campaign, but now I hear that campaigning today Mitt was “walking a fine line” and wouldn’t say whether he supported Ryan on medicare, but wouldn’t give his own position either. I’m so tired of the vapid ideology free zone — that will lose the election.

You are correct. I wonder why she is leaving that thing front and center with that 7/31 date on it...... The page has 08 12 2012 in the upper right hand corner.

“Palin will not speak at Republican convention”

Perhaps I’m impertinent for asking, but...

... is not Mrs. Palin under contract with Fox News as a commentator?

If so, why can’t she join the Fox folks in their booth, carrying Fox credentials (surely, this would guarantee her admission into the arena)?

There, she can speak as much as she wants!

The coy style is getting old..If she doesn’t speak I really believe it was HER choice. And she should speak if its a Republican convention and she supported Rep senate and congress candidates.

to not speak is like ‘sour grapes”. I agree with the other poster that says she needs now to run for soemthing, like senate or such, unless she has the inside deal on a post in the romney admin promised if he wins.

If she is serious, she could run for something and be a Senator. Sidelines are ok for awhile, but then after awhile, she becomes just another moderator.

And just think, if you had sent her $2 or $3 million dollars to defend herself from malicious, unsubstantiated lawsuits filed by Obama operatives, she’d still be in office.

As the greatest female speaker in American history and the leader of the conservative, Reagan wing of the GOP, she needs to speak to her party and to the nation.

While I agree with everybody in spirit....it was Palin who became a reality star with her tv show....it was Palin who had a movie made about her, did a patriotic bus tour and THEN once the dvd was released, decided not to run. It was Palin who went on SNL and gave the libs credibility...instead of fighting back and defending herself. It was Palin who received a multi million dollar contract on Fox News to be a commentator/guest speaker........in every decision she has made since running for VP, she has never decided on running for office or assuming any position within politics or the RNC. If you look at this objectively, it comes as no surprise.

I don’t think McCain would be very gracious if he wasn’t invited to speak.

Now they are saying she was invited to speak, but declined. “it’s unclear whether she would have had a prominent role”

I think there is some damage control going on. People on Twitter are ticked off that Sarah is being given the shaft by Mitt/RNC/GOP.
