(CBS News) CBS News has learned that the House Oversight Committee expects to file a civil contempt suit against Attorney General Eric Holder Monday. The lawsuit is to try to force Holder to release documents from the Fast and Furious gunwalking operation.
The Republican-led House of Representative voted to hold Holder in contempt on June 28 for failing to turn over thousands of pages of subpoenaed documents. The Justice Department has said it is withholding documents under White House executive privilege.

I’m glad to see that at least something is going right in Washington. My congressman serves on this committee.
Yes my congressman does too Justin Amash.
Wake me when the Arrest Warrants are served...
It’s about time the wheels came off. 3 -1/2 years, they have racked up a lot of damage.
What took them so long? And where are the articles of impeachment?
A Civil Contempt suit as opposed to a criminal contempt suit.?
Why not criminal contempt.
Does Civil contempt even have a penalty?
Wake me when the Arrest Warrants are served...
Rip Vanwinkle is that you?
The country does not seem to care if Obama or his administration break the law. The media has decided it is not even important for coverage. They need to protect Obama so he can continue to bankrupt the country.
What a bunch of PUSSIES!
Holder only has to stonewall a little longer and the election will be over.
Walberg and Amash are two good ones on the committee.
Unlike their own congressman (Dingell) Walberg and Amash have actually met the Terry family and are working toward justice.
I agree this is a slow reaction . The best thing I got from this is Ms Attkisson is reporting again. She has done great work on this story. I know for a fact she almost lost her job in the beginning of this story. I hope she comes back hard and gives this evening news coverage . I am sure that is wishful thinking.
If I am not mistaken, a civil contempt suit before federal judge John J. Sirica is what shook loose the Nixon tapes.
Question is: does the Obama administration have the same honor and respect for the law as the Nixon administration.
Good question for the ranking members.
In fact, that’s one of the things I’d like to see changed in DC. No more appointments based on seniority. We sent some good folks to DC who have living under the idiotic “freshman” label for the past two years.
Elected Democrats everywhere had a laugh.
Holder should have been removed years ago, and his DOJ needs a massive over haul and get rid of the racist laywers there.
You are kidding right?
The DoJ would have to file a criminal complaint. Not complying with a civil order can result in jail for contempt of court, though.
That's a question to you?
Is this the second or thrid time they tried to force them to hand over the records. Or, is this the first official attempt?
I was just wondering the other day what the hell ever happened with this.
I’m sure Holder is going to get a nasty letter.
How long is this dog and pony show going to be perpetrated on us?
Dragging it out til after the election, is my bet. Then, if they lose, they'll let him walk without being held accountable.
Whatever happened to indictments? Boy, sure clapped Martha Stewart in jail lickity split - and not because they could prove the charge - but claimed she lied to them - based on the changed (coerced) testimony of an underling that was made a deal he couldn't refuse - change your testimony or go to jail.
But these traitors, these REAL criminals who are doing things that are costing lives and damage to our country - they're gonna walk unscathed - I'll bet on it.
Yeah baby...Obama, DWS and the liberal elites want to talk about Romney and his tax returns.
Now they’ll have to defend the most corrupt administration in the history of our nation, and that includes Nixon and Watergate.
How about lighting a fire under his, ah, seat?
I've never seen such drag as*ing.
Wake me when the Arrest Warrants are served...
This is the civil case which will lead to discovery. This discovery will then provide Congress with the evidence necessary to proceed with criminal charges that most likely will be filed after the inauguration in January 2013.
What does this mean when they file contempt suit? Will it (or should it) be a big news day when this happens?
Where does it go from here? Next steps?
How bout lighting a fire under Darrell Issa’s butt? He’s running the show.
Of course not.
And it shouldn't be to anybody.
From the article: “The contempt vote had two possible tracks for enforcement: criminal and civil. But shortly after the House vote, the Department of Justice announced it would not pursue a criminal case against its own Attorney General and did not believe any crime had been committed. The civil lawsuit expected to be filed Monday would ask a federal judge to order the Justice Department to turn over the documents.”
Perhaps it has taken some time to come up with an alternative plan since the announcement by the DOJ they would’nt allow a criminal procedure against their own AG.
I would think that should have been anticipated with this crowd currently in office, but with so many RINO’s involved there had to have been some foot dragging.
As far as the missing articles of impeachment I can only believe they were eaten by a RINO. /s
I keep waiting for the day the MSM wises up and tosses Obumo under his own bus. God knows they have enough material to work with.
I think that's called a retorical question.
What would impeachment accomplish? The Senate would never convict. The media would just spin it as election year politics, especially given the makeup of the Senate. That could backfire politically. What would we gain then? Potentially improve the chances of getting another 4 years of Obama? Not worth it, given that conviction by the Senate is impossible.
Yeah, sure, let us throw our principles away!
Who knows what evil will befall us if we actually stand our ground?
These are scary times!
Let us duck down in our safe foxholes and let somebody else fight for America!
The very last thing that we should do is admit to believing in Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of happiness!
Stay scared America! Fear rules!
I don't recall reading any stories that began with "Democrat led House Ethics Committee..."
So what should Issa and them do, nothing? And then you could gripe at them even more! They aren’t Superman, they can only do what they can do.
Thanks for the ping.
Speaking of tax returns needs to go look a OB’s on the WH site. Seems he’s getting income from Grandma’s trust. She was head of Escrow/Trust department, not just VP of the bank. She became his legal grardian shortly after the death of her father, who was not just a “bookkeeper” (Anymore than paternal great-grandfather was a goat herder). He was an agent. Many took one tenth on one percent of the future production of mineral rights on the bundles they put together. IOW 0 was probably a multimillionaire at about age ten with his grandmother put in control of his assets.......shame MSM doesn’t do some research.
Oh boy. They’re really gonna get him.
LOL!! Good one!
It is now Monday.
Issa gunna file on Holder or not?
House Asks Federal Court to Rule Against Attorney Generals Stonewalling in Fast and Furious

(WASHINGTON)Today, the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee filed a civil action to compel U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder to produce documents related to Operation Fast and Furious subpoenaed by the Committee on October 11, 2011. Among other things, the Houses legal action seeks to obtain documents covered by the subpoena that will show why the Justice Department took ten months to retract a February 4, 2011 letter which contained false denials of the reckless investigative tactics used in Operation Fast and Furious. After months of stonewalling by the Attorney General and his staff, and minutes before the Oversight Committee convened a business meeting to consider a resolution holding the Attorney General in contempt, President Obama invoked an eleventh hour assertion of executive privilege over the documents. The Houses filing asks the federal court to rule that President Obamas assertion of executive privilege was invalid and compel Attorney General Eric Holder to produce subpoenaed documents.
President Obama exceeded his authority by asserting executive privilege over subpoenaed documents related to the Justice Departments cover-up of Operation Fast and Furious, said Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa. Waiting nearly eight months after the subpoena had been issued to assert a meritless claim of privilege, the Presidents decision was a calculated political maneuver designed to stop the release of documents until after Novembers elections. After promising an unprecedented level of transparency, the President is attempting to expand the reach of executive privilege to obstruct the truth about the reckless conduct that contributed to the death of a Border Patrol Agent and countless Mexican citizens. The family of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry, whistleblowers who faced retaliation for exposing the Justice Departments reckless tactics, and the public have a right to know the full extent of what occurred.
In June, 21 House Democrats crossed party lines to rebuke President Obamas claim of executive privilege by supporting H.Res. 706, which authorized this action for the purpose of compelling production of the subpoenaed documents. The Committee presented a report outlining the case for Contempt of Congress, which is available here.
The civil suit was filed today in Federal District Court for the District of Columbia by the General Counsel to the House of Representatives on behalf of the Oversight Committee.

FINALLY, a Congressman with the courage of his convictions!
Thanks Issa, from all of us out here in Flyover Country!
