KABUL, Afghanistan An Afghan police officer killed at least 10 of his fellow officers on Saturday, a day after six U.S. service members were gunned down by their Afghan partners in summer violence that has both international and Afghan forces questioning who is friend or foe.
...
A day earlier, two Afghans shot and killed six American service members Friday in neighboring Helmand province in the south where insurgents have wielded their greatest influence.
In the first attack, an Afghan police officer shot and killed three Marines after sharing a pre-dawn meal with them in the volatile Sangin district, according to Afghan officials.

Get out! Get ou! Get out!
By staying in that shithole we are only uping the body count and not changing anything. This isn’t nation building - this is stupid.
We need to get the hell out of there.
Lots of this stuff.

Same massive flowershover.
Anyone trusting islamics is insane.
Good men are dying for no good cause.
It’s time to bring this brutal folly to a swift end.
These people are not to be trusted.
Get out and let them go back to killing each other and beating their wives.
Just Nuke the whole crap hole over their glaze the desert then build a giant wal-mart.
I agree. Nuke it from orbit. Only way to be sure.
Our mission was to stop Al Qaida by obliterating its bases in Afghanistan. This morphed into nation building, which will never, ever work in Muslim nations.
All Middle Eastern Muslim power structures devolve to the tribal, and it matters not whether the leader at the pinnacle of that structure is a tyrannical dictator or a king. Personal power is the only power that matters and personal power is a zero sum game. No one can trust anyone else. The only rule that counts is that the one with the most power.
So, whether it is pirates or terrorists, we deal with both exactly the same. We deal harshly with them when we catch ‘em; a trial by military tribunal and an immediate hanging afterwards.
As to those nations harboring terrorists and pirates, we deal harshly, too. They will be punished until it hurts so much that they literally kill any remaining terrorists and pirates themselves.
No nation building!
You beat me to it! We're sacrificing our most precious resource - the young men & women of this nation......for NOTHING!
Get out and let the 7th century barbarians kill themselves!
The whole Islamic Democracy thing is going really well, isn’t it. Another fifty years, and maybe they will stop killing us for helping them.
“This morphed into nation building We had not choice. The Taliban/Al Qaeda WAS their government and social structure. When we took them out we HAD to leave something in its place.”
Hello? The Taliban are still there and they arn’t going away. The Afghans are who they are, a tribal people, and there is no way to force another, alien system on them.
Mostly importantly, it isn’t the responsibility of the U.S.A. to leave anything for those people. One thing we should definitely do for ourselves is burn the poppy fields - destroy the source of so much human suffering. Have you noticed? That hasn’t been done.
I’ve read through most of the posts and the over-whelming response is “Get out.” I’m all for that — but we’re not out yet and I got a daughter going soon for a year?
I’m concerned for her. Should I be REALLY concerned? What are the numbers for troops that return safely?
The world is upside down.
That whole country deserves to be made into molten glass.
The Poppy fields is why the US is there, not “nation building”. New record crops each year. Islamics as transporters/enforcers.
Know your hidden history ;).
Disarming was done to insure that NO armed Afghans were around him.....US troops were not feared.
But they were included in ban to placate the locals.
The Afghans are a bunch of treacherous subhumans, good for nothing but causing trouble.
Sometimes, genocide is the only morally correct solution.
Losing more Americans for no reason is not an answer.
The Afghans and the Taliban know we are leaving and are now going to start slaughtering our people wholesale, without fear of retribution.
Was the same policy in place when Rumsfeld went there?
Just asking...
Gosh! Did I really need a /sarc tag?
Bomb ‘em back to the tenth century......oh, wait, they’re there already.
Believe me, Panetta and US brass do NOT worry about US troops "fragging" their civilian leaders.
They aren’t allowed. This was a big deal when my husband was there. We were actually just talking about it today. The poppy fields were off-limits. They were not to be damaged.
WTF are we still doing there?
I thought that this country voted for Obama in 2008 because they disliked GWB so much for getting us in the Afghan mess.
When I think of Afghanistan I see precious American blood being spilled in a black hole for a bunch of mooselimbs who hate us.
There's going to be a lot of 'pain pills' needed when Obamacare and the death panels go full-force. /s
But were any Qurans burnt by Americans? Cause that would cause Hamid Karzai to demand someone be prosecuted.
Was anyone told why?
Including my friend’s son.... about two months ago. He and other US soldiers were walking with three Afghan police trainees and the Afghani’s turned and shot 8. His son was killed and many wounded. I agree ...get out!
What's the purpose of identifying 3 of the troops were Marines? Are they somehow more deserving of mourning than the other 3, whatever their branches of service?
<>The Poppy fields is why the US is there, not nation building.<>
Poppy fields and the $7.6 billion Trans-Afghanistan Pipeline:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trans-Afghanistan_Pipeline
The deal being worked out is: We won’t mess with your poppy fields, if you don’t mess with our pipeline.
Marines are not soldiers. It’s a Marine thing. My brother was a soldier who died in Nam. It has nothing to do with not honoring their deaths. Not acknowledging their loss is disrespectful.
The DOD has not released the information on them yet. They could all be Marines, and then the media will be able to use the correct title.
“Happy Ramadan! Come; break your fast with some sweetmeats and bullets!”
“New record crops”
Actually, the poppy crop was only 10% of normal in the area I work, an area mention in the article.
Sonds weird. The stats have had the crops on a steep upward curve ever since US involvement.
I am, mind you, offering insight of a local area, not sure about the rest of the area, however, the wx causing the 10% wasn’t all that local.
Dunno, about other sources, but, I do know this.
How are Marines NOT soldiers?
oh. 2004, breaking all records.
2007, another record crop.
2008, bumper crop.
2011, Bumper crop (60% increase).
Someone is collecting their data *after* harvest, in the lean couple of months :).
You will, after each bumber crop, see one or two big captures - to show the govt is up on the task. Then everyone can be happily drugged out of their skull for the enxt year.
If it wasn’t for Levin, I wouldn’t have heard about the US soldiers killed.
Monies, from the meager poppy crop, for the Taliban for HME supplies has made IED’s very valuable here, so much so that they'll risk exposure recouping a compromised emplacement to their own decimation.
Idiotic orders should be ignored. Your son is a good and courageous man. God protect him and his men.
Air, land, SEA. They are part of the Navy, not the Army, and it is important to them.
I’ll bet the 6 officers were prevented from going to the meeting armed because it may have given the appearance of intimidation.
No. This started with Petraeus in Iraq, trying to be Alexander the Great. I personally like the way God told the Israelites to go into the promised land, but that was because they were sacrificing their children by burning them alive. Kind of like abortion. The only legacy Afghanistan might have from the Greeks is their boy abuse and disregard for women.
He is very wise and tell him as a first deployment completed mom, I love him. :)
There were 2 separate incidents. The first 3 lost were Marine Corps special ops with another wounded. There are conflicting stories. No word from the DOD.
